A local place makes a great honey chicken. Also the cashew chicken, and sweet and sour chicken. Reply #4. Sep 21 09, 2:59 PM |

there is a dish called by some restaurants "Rainbow Steak"... absolutely beautiful. I did a search for the recipe, and it is fairly close... 500 grams Beef eye of round -- sliced finely 1 teaspoon teriyaki sauce 1 clove garlic -- crushed 1 teaspoon grated ginger root 2 teaspoons corn flour 2 teaspoons corn flour -- extra 1/2 cup dry sherry 1 tablespoon soy sauce -- light 1 tablespoon oyster sauce 1/4 cup water 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 tablespoon sugar 2 tablespoons oil 1 large onion -- sliced 1 medium carrot -- sliced 1 medium green pepper -- sliced 1 medium red pepper -- slcied Method: 1. Combine beef in bowl with teriyaki sauce, ginger, garlic and cornflour, stand 30 minutes. 2. Blend extra cornflour with sherry, soy sauce, oyster sauce, water, lemon juice and sugar. 3. Heat one tablespoon of the oil in wok, add beef in batches, stir-fry over high heat; drain. 4. Heat remaining oil in wok. Add onion and carrot, stir-fry few minutes or until just soft, add peppers, stir-fry 2 minutes, add beef. 5. Add sherry mixture to wok, stir until sauce boils and thickens. Reply #5. My mum is Chinese - I grew up with a family that ordered from the "secret" menus or just had whatever the staff was having for dinner when we went out to Chinese restaurants. The rice cooker is a constant fixture at all family gatherings. Even American holidays take on a Chinese twist - ex: Turkey stuffed with rice & Chinese sausage instead of bread bits. Peking duck is a family tradition for big gatherings if we go out, or dim sum for smaller groups. If we eat at home it's ti pang, or homemade gyoza, or red chicken, or lo mein with beef & pea pods. Almond jello for dessert. I fondly remember my grandmother's fried shrimp crisps, and miss most of all my grandfather's wonderful chicken wings and homemade soups, which have never been reproduced since he passed. Reply #6. Dim Sum dumplings are the best, particularly the fried rather than steamed ones. In the Belfast restaurant I go to lunch in sometimes, the chicken's feet are only on the Chinese language 'secret' menu - which in fairness is where they should stay! Reply #8. Sep 26 09, 2:13 AM |

I love Chinese food but unfortunately there are no good Chinese restaurants where I live now. Before we moved, there were two excellent Chinese restaurants. My favorite dishes there were Sesame chicken, sweet and sour pork, fried rice and spring rolls. My family is planning to make a 3 hour drive just to go back to one of these restaurants in the near future. Reply #18. Oct 18 09, 10:28 AM |

I guess I'll be the first one to say that Chinese food is totally nasty. No offense to those of you who enjoy it; I just think that it smells and taste foul. Reply #20. Oct 18 09, 11:47 AM |
