Subject: Rating quizzes

I give every quiz I play a rating. I got into the habit when I realised there was a badge for it, and just never stopped :-)
Now, as I write quizzes too, I realise how important it can be as feedback for the author.

That said, there are many quizzes that do not get enough ratings to rank. I'm starting to wonder, how many people actually rate the quizzes that they play?

Do you rate every quiz or not at all?

Yes, always, though I have missed a few by mistake.

I always rate every quiz I play but I've missed a few while I was in a hurry trying for the Endurance or Buzzy Bee badges. Sometimes I don't know the subject and score poorly and hence my rating is not counted.

I played a LOT of quizzes before I even realized that I could/was supposed to be rating them. Since I figured it out, I've rated nearly every quiz I've taken. Some exceptions might be if it was a quiz I didn't care for and chose not to rate rather than to rate poorly (especially with old quizzes.. it's not their fault they're not as good as new quizzes, really) or if I was doing a lot of quizzes in a hurry, like for Endurance. But whenever I choose a quiz off of the New Quiz list because it looks interesting, or I play quizzes in subcategories that actually interest me, I rate.

Emma you must have been reading my mind when you made this post. I just had our latest team quiz go online and was disappointed to see that only a quarter of the people who played rated it. I know its optional but it would be nice if more people rated quizzes. Like you I always rate quizzes (except the odd one I forget) because now having written a few quizzes myself (no expert) I realise it takes a fair bit of effort to get them online.

As soon as I figured out there was a badge for it and I started writing quizzes I started rating quizzes. I know what it's like to have a quiz that has 14 ratings and is hardly played, so when I'm a gold member I rate all quizzes.

I always rate quizzes, and always did, even before Terry gave us a 20 point incentive for doing so.

cazza, the numbers are a bit deceiving when you look at plays vs. ratings. The number of plays is actually inflated by a factor of 3 to account for guest plays. If it says 90 then it is actually only counting 30 plays by registered players. The count of ratings is actual ratings - but you have to remember that effectively only gold members can rate quizzes - so that will cut down on the number of potential raters also.

I have used up my free player ratings, but I'll become a Gold Member sometime soon and rate.

I always rate every quiz that I play and have from the start. I also send a message to the author if I have enjoyed it and/or it was well put together regardless of the score I get and I have had a few 0's. Since I have started writting quizzes I have enjoyed getting messages from players and have made some new friends in the process.

I,too, always rate the quizzes I play. I did forget once - so I did it again, and rated it! :)

And I also send a brief message to the author,if they're still active on the site. Unless I'm doing a series of quizzes by the same author - then I wait until I've done! Wouldn't want to look like a 'Stalker' - LOL!

I rate every quiz and compliment the creator if the quiz was one I really enjoyed.

It only takes a minute, or less, to rate a quiz.

I rate every quiz that I play. I base it on the experience I had playing the quiz. It let's the author(or in the Team Quizzes authors) know how well the quizzes are received by the Fun Trivia community.

I have only been a Gold member for about 6 weeks, since then I always rate the quizzes.

Why do you get 20 points for rating some quizzes and sometimes it just says "thanks for rating this quiz?" Just curious...

I've noticed that when I play a quiz I've already played before and then rate it, it just says thanks and you don't get the 20 points again.

For the past few months, I've tried to remember to rate each quiz that I play, but every now and then I might forget to do so. Before that, I just didn't realize how important these ratings are to authors who are trying to get rankings on their quizzes. I also will compliment an author on a quiz that I think is outstanding.

I also rate every quiz I play. I often wonder do people rate these quizes fairly though. Do people rate a quiz as good just because they get a high score or do they rate it as too how much they enjoyed playing it no matter what score they get. I have in the past rated a quiz good when I have only got a few right, but have enjoyed the format of the quiz or the way the questions have been asked.

I have not had the "bottle" to submit a quiz of my own as yet, but will do one day and I would like to think people would rate the quiz fairly not just as an after thought, so whenI do future ones I could make them more enjoyable.

There are some very good quizzes out there, for those who submit these well done and keep it up.

"Why do you get 20 points for rating some quizzes and sometimes it just says "thanks for rating this quiz?" Just curious..."

You can only rate any quiz once, so if you retake the quiz (as, for example, when the Bus Ride or Quiz of the Hour hits a quiz you have already taken), the system lets you try to post a rating, but doesn't award points. You'll also notice that you get a thanks for rating even if you don't select a rating before you click the 'return me to where I was' button. Again, no points.

I rate every quiz I take, except the occasions where I only score 0 or 1, and cannot rate. If that happens for a quiz I enjoyed, I send a compliment so the author gets that feedback. I rate based on my enjoyment while taking the quiz - was it well written, with questions posed so that I was interested in finding out the answer? Were multiple choice options carefully selected (I find birthday questions with options such as April 13, April 14, April 15 or April 16 frustrating - I might at best know it's April, and would have had a chance if the dates were more spread out; of course, that doesn't apply to the Beatles, whose birthdays I memorized as a 12-year-old, but does even to my favorite other musicians and actors, as I simply do not register that kind of information as significant)? Did the II explain why I guessed incorrectly, and offer something that would make me remember the fact for the future? And so on.

As an author, I find ratings feedback valuable to inform me as to whether or not I have managed to make an enjoyable quiz. I try to write quizzes that offer interesting questions, whether or not you know the answer, and with II that will offer something new of interest even for those who know a great deal about the subject. Some quizzes succeed better than others, and only user feedback lets me know which ones. I can then try to see what the weakness is in the less successful quizzes so as to improve future quizzes.
