Subject: What Book Should I Read?

Posted by: HannahConner88
Date: Jun 20 11

I like books that are witty, filled with irony, lots of philosophy, and of course a good story.

Some of my favorites are The Princess Bride, A Clockwork Orange, The Stranger, and The Picture of Dorian Gray

Recommend a book for me to read because I cannot find anything interesting that I haven't already read.

I've researched the books you all have recommended.
I find the description of some of them interesting.
Many of the books are not available at my local library.

I will be checking out "The Art of Racing in the Rain" today, and "A Confederacy of Dunces" once it is transferred.

Thanks to all who have replied.

"Animal Farm" and "Bill, the Galactic Hero." Or, if nonfiction is your thing, "Marlowe's Ghost," by Daryl Pinksen.

"Unbroken", a memoir written by Lauren Hillenbrand, who wrote "Seabiscuit"...it's the powerful story of Louie Zamperinni, the Army Airman shot down, catured , held and finally released from Japanese death camps in the Pacific theatre of WWII. What an inspirational story.

I apologize if I spelled anyone's name wrong, I'm doing this from memory.

Keith Richards autobiography, "Life". Is better than you might think. Even if you're not a Rolling Stones fan.

I would like to read some of these, but my bookcase is full and overflowing. I have at least a half dozen books I recently purchased and am waiting to find time to read. The cabinet where I used to store VHS tapes (anyone remember those?) is now filled with books, with more books stacked on top of it. My closets are filled with boxes of books. I think I have too many [expletive deleted] books.

Our house was stuffed with books and finally we agreed we needed to reduce the number but it was agonising sorting out what to give away. In a couple of cases I missed the books and ended up buying copies back. Now we have a one for one rule that we try to stick to so we don't buy a new book without giving one away. I've started using the library a lot more because those books are not permanently with you. These days libraries don't have much money and don't buy many new books so finding what you want can't be hit and miss but that's half the fun. You often come away with some new and unexpected discovery. Of course there's always e books but they don't appeal to me really.

P.S. We still have a cabinet of VHS tapes. Even if we gave them away no one wants them now do theyand it's far too good a collection to dump. We also have cassette tapes and LPs from years back but we've given a good number of cassettes away.
