I just came to the chatboard to see if someone had posted yet. I adored Joan Rivers for almost as long as I've lived. She always made me laugh even when I felt I couldn't laugh at anything. She had the sharpest mind and was extremely kind and generous to everyone that met her. A comic genius. Right now I feel like the entire world of comedy has died. People who criticized her didn't understand what comedy is about. I've sat and cried over her passing. I haven't done that for a celebrity since John Lennon's death. Reply #1. Sep 04 14, 4:02 PM |

You knew some brutally honest observation was to follow after she asked, "Can we talk?" And in praise of her wit, that bad was always stated with a bright light on it in ways only she knew how to express. She made us look at ourselves in that light. I heard she passed away on my way home from work a few hours ago. Her daughter took her off of life support & she died shortly afterwards, the guy on the radio said. 2 comedians gone now, so close together. Rest in peace. :( Reply #4. Sep 04 14, 5:05 PM |

I hope people learn that agree or disagree, love her or hate her she spoke her own mind and her own truth, and had the courage of her convictions to be totally unconcerned with what other people thought. If you truly believe in what you feel then follow her lead and be yourself at any cost, and it further gives confidence to others to do so as well. On Tuesday, Broadway dimmed lights in honor of Joan. Originally, the Broadway League declined to honor Joan in this manner. Petitions were begun, calls were made, people talked and suddenly Joan 'qualified'. Several even stated the lights would be dimmed even if not authorized by the Broadway League. Joan's oxygen was cut off during the surgery (which should have been performed in the hospital). Imagine what she would have had to say about all the activity involving her. Hopefully, the clinic(?) where this happened is investigated. Each time I see a plastic surgery office in strip mall, it chills me to the bone. Joan Rivers was not having plastic surgery done when she suffered cardiac arrest in a "plastic surgery clinic." She was having an endoscopy done at an endoscopy clinic. To be specific, she was having a laryngoscopy done to examine her vocal cords. Her personal Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor was in the room. Reply #14. Oct 02 14, 10:53 PM |

The news is during the unplanned biopsy, Joan suffered what is called a 'laryngospasm'. This caused her air supply to be interrupted. It is also indicated the E. 93rd St. clinic is a clinic for digestive issues and nothing more. The head of the out-patient clinic is no longer performing procedures. He is no longer the medical director. (This kind of disassociation is usual practice.) However, the doctor is still practicing and has admitting privileges at Mt. Sinai. Lawsuits are in process.
