Leg #1, Clue #1 - 'Easy Start' Route Info Welcome one and all to the third FunTrivia Amazing Race! For those of you joining us for the first time, this will be a treat. For the rest of you, I don’t know how I got you all involved in this mess again. Suffice to say, you’re all masochists. ;) With your team, you’ll need to work together to write and submit quizzes based on the tasks given to you. Some will require specific knowledge and some will involve more general trivia, but either way, the goal is to make it to the end in good time. Some will be competitive and some will join just for the challenge of it all. It’s up to you to determine your pace. This race will take you to the furthest reaches of the site, but you need to start somewhere. I’ll let you be the ones to decide that, though. Your first quiz should be quick and easy; it’s something that will stretch your legs. Your only requirement: Ten questions, all multiple choice. Welcome again. Leg #1, Clue #2 - 'Food & Drink' Route Info That wasn’t too hard now, was it? Your first quiz is in the queue, which means that that team member likely won’t be able to submit this quiz. That’s okay though. You’re a team, and this is all part of the game. Let’s head to our first category for this race. You’re off to Chilé! Oh… No you’re not. You’re off to chili. Time to spice things up in the Hobbies category. It’s been a treat to get people to write quizzes in the Food & Drink section despite WesleyCrusher’s wishes that I push people to other parts of the site, but let’s face it: food porn is real, and everybody eats. For this task, your team needs to work together to submit a quiz to any one of the Hobbies category’s Food & Drink subcategories. The catch: only two teams may submit to any subcategory. Any team who submits a quiz in a section that’s already been submitted to by two other teams will be able to continue on with the race, but will incur a two hour penalty at the next Pit Stop. To receive your next clue, said member will need to notify me personally via PM on the main site to claim the challenge. They may not switch team members and they may not request help to complete the task— this is all on them. For this task, the choice is yours: who’s a natural? ----------------- Considering you’re in the Hobbies category, you probably narrowed this one down; you’ll be writing a quiz relating to things you can do outside— nowhere near FunTrivia. And you’re allegedly the one who’s more apt to do these things, so this should be a breeze! LEG #1, PIT STOP A Pit Stop is a period of rest at which teams can take a short reprieve from the fast-paced race around FunTrivia. Here, their quizzes from the previous leg can continue to go online and they will depart at a specific time based on their advantages/penalties. For this leg of the race, each correction notice results in a 30 minute time penalty. Teams with quizzes still in the queue by the start of Leg 2 must keep their quizzes submitted. While that team member will not be able to submit until said quiz is placed online, they will not receive any penalties. Should they receive corrections on their late quiz, it shall be applied to the next Pit Stop (30 minutes per correction). Unfortunately, on the open tasks allowing for a choice amongst all of the categories, it is luck of the draw. Leg #2, Clue #2 - 'Regional History' Route Info For as long as there has been FunTrivia, there has been History. Your next stop is that category. While most trivia can boil down to being a history of ‘something’, this category gives us a chance to look back at some of the more interesting tidbits of the past simply because they happened. For this task, one member of your team must construct a quiz in the History category. The topic of the quiz is simple: it must be a history of the country in which that quiz author lives, so if the selected member is from Bhutan, you’re submitting to the proper section of Asian History. ----------------- 1. Leg #2, Clue #3 - 'Now and Then' Detour A Detour is a choice between two tasks, each with their own pros and cons. Some Detour tasks may prove to be better options for teams depending on their strengths and weaknesses, but some choices may facilitate speedier or more creative results. Only one of these quizzes needs to be completed. For this task, you’ll be keeping your mind on History and looking at either... Now – Write a quiz in the 2000s History or the 2010s History subcategories of History. These may have been recent years, but they’re history nonetheless! Perhaps they’re fresh on your mind? Then – Write a quiz in the Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, or Roman History subcategories of Ancient History (or any of their subcategories within). Leg #2, Clue #4 - 'Badgelet Switchback' Route Info Considering this historical retrospective we have going on…It’s time for an Amazing Race Switchback! A Switchback is a task visited on a previous race, and while we’ve probably spent enough time in the History category, it’s hard to pass up the opportunity to look back when you’re on a roll. Fortunately, this task is not History-specific. Instead, we flash back to Leg 4 of our first race. FunTrivia is a massive place with many, many games and challenges, and for this task, you'll need to take on only one of them by creating a quiz with a badge/badgelet/game title as your quiz title. You may choose any one of the following titles-- there are fifteen (though there were twenty in the original task)— but only one quiz can go online for each title, so you'll have to choose wisely and act fast! If someone places another of the same title into the queue before you, you'll need to try again (you will be notified upon submission)! Once again, you may place this quiz into any category and respective guidelines must be adhered to. Here, their quizzes from the previous leg can continue to go online and they will depart at a specific time based on their advantages/penalties. For this leg of the race, each correction notice results in a 30 minute time penalty. Teams with quizzes still in the queue by the start of Leg 3 must keep their quizzes submitted. While that team member will not be able to submit until said quiz is placed online, they will not receive any penalties. Every time we head to Entertainment for the race, teams get a bit tripped up. I’m not sure if it’s my tendency to hide little images in the subcategories...or to send people to Professional Wrestling... But suffice to say, the section is always a bit of a game-changer for players. This time, you need to write a quiz in this category using a title from the Author Challenges listing or a claimed title from the Author Lounge challenges. Any subcategory will do. You’ll need to pick your poison with a pop culture category this time around, somewhat based on a popular Entertainment subcategory. A Detour is a choice between two tasks, each with their own pros and cons. Some Detour tasks may prove to be better options for teams depending on their strengths and weaknesses, but some choices may facilitate speedier or more creative results. The TV & Movies Mixture subcategory of Entertainment has long been a sanctuary of mixture quizzes without any other homes. Double U-Turn You have arrived at the DOUBLE U-TURN. If you choose, you may force another team to complete the other side of the Detour that they did not originally choose, thus expanding the breadth of information added to the site. If that team has already passed, the U-Turn will be ineffective. Two teams may choose to use this U-Turn (as it is a Double) but a team may only use it once, and any team can not be U-Turned twice in one leg of the race. If a team is U-Turned, all teams passing by will know who has been selected and who did the deed. First come, first serve. You must notify Kyle via PM on the main site if you do or do not wish to use the U-Turn. You must also notify him if you can not use the U-Turn for any reason (ie. Leg #3, Clue #3 - 'Video Games' Route Info Relieved to be past the Double U-Turn? Me too. In both earlier races, teams used the U-Turn to force other teams to write a quiz in the Video Games category, and without fail, those teams picked up the slack to get them done. Kind of hilariously, Eburge— an editor in VG— has been on both the giving and receiving end of a dreaded VG Double U-Turn. This race, I’m not giving a choice. It’s time to turn the race over to the Video Games category— a section which, odds are, is not your favourite. While VG is an exceptionally niche category, it’s inarguable that gaming has become a huge technological advance and a juggernaut pop culture influence. Your task? Any topic you want, but it has to be in the Video Games category, it has to be a multiple choice quiz (non-match), and it has to be about a game (or games) made within the past ten years. …okay. You get a choice. If you don’t want to write in the Video Games category, you can write in the For Children category instead, but you must use the title of a video game from the past two years as the title of your quiz. We’re off to the Geography category, an obvious area for any Amazing Race. For this task, you need to write a quiz about a single capital city. It can be a national capital or a state/provincial capital. The only stipulation is that it must be the closest capital to any one of your team members, so if one of your team members lives in Boulder, Colorado, then their option would be Denver— not Washington D.C. For this task, the choice is yours: who doesn't want to go to Bhutan? ----------------- Bhutan seems to be a bit of a running gag around here since, in the first FT Amazing Race, teams unknowingly submitted several quizzes about the small Asian nation by coincidence. For this task, I want you to get far away from Bhutan. Is a 1,500 kilometre radius good enough? For this task, you must write a quiz about a country within a 1,500 kilometre radius of Bhutan. Your options are China, India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Nepal, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Pakistan. If you wish to take another five hundred kilometers, you may do so and add a half-hour time penalty to your Pit Stop departure, but this will open up Cambodia, Mongolia, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
