Leg #1, Clue #1 - 'Write a Quiz'

Route Info

Well, to those of you who’ve done the race before, you know this is just the first in a multi-step process that’s going to be full of challenges, nudges (or shoves) out of your comfort zones, and maybe some fun. Maybe. I can’t guarantee. Some people don’t like me after these races. ;)

But nonetheless of if you’ve done the race before, welcome one and all. It’s our fourth FunTrivia Amazing Race!

This race, I took inspiration from the actual fourth ‘Amazing Race’, which has always been a favourite of mine because it’s particularly difficult. In one leg of the race, teams flew to South Korea where they dealt with staggering language barriers, swam under a frozen river, and ate live octopus. I think it’s one of the few legs of the race where, under all the stress, I’m confident I would not be able to get through it. But that's great. I don't think it's travel if you're not outside the norm.

That’s not to say that this race will be horribly, horribly difficult, but I’ve amped things up a little bit. This won’t be an easy race.

With your team, you’ll need to work together to write and submit quizzes based on the tasks given to you. Some will require specific knowledge and some will involve more general trivia, but either way, the goal is to make it to the end. Some teams will assuredly be competitive and some will join just for the challenge (I’ll be joining you...at least as far as I can). It’s up to you to determine your pace. Don’t stress; it’s all in the name of fun.

I’m going to send you to some crazy corners of the site and some seriously far-flung spots, some of which are going to be more niche than others. But for now, let’s ease you in.

Ready?
The queues await!
Travel safe!

1…

…GO!

Your first task requires this: Write a quiz.
The person who submits the template must submit to the category that follows their username alphabetically, so ‘kyleisalive’ would submit to Literature since it comes first after ‘Kyle’. If your username starts with a number, you’re out of luck. Someone else will have to write this one. Remember: You’re a team!
For this first quiz, you must write using a regular ‘multiple choice’ template.

Good luck and godspeed! See you at the Pit Stop! Bon voyage!

2. 1-A - [Apathy100] - Missing Vowels Canadian Style

Express Pass

Well look at this. Something new to our race, and so soon. Do you want a head start going into the next leg of the race? Well, I can give it to you, but you’ll need to write another quiz.

You will gain a two hour time credit if: A different member of the team writes another quiz. This quiz must be in the category that precedes their username alphabetically, so ‘kyleisalive’ would submit to Humanities since it comes first before ‘Kyle’. For this quiz, they must, once again, write using a regular ‘multiple choice’ template.

The catch: I only have three Express Passes to give out. First-come-first-serve. [u]You will need to contact me via personal message with your decision: go for the Express Pass or don’t.[/u] If you decide not to go for it, you will simply move on to your next task; if you do, you will get your next clue upon completing this one (or bailing from it). This quiz will be subject to the same penalties as any other quiz should you receive Correction Notices.

Express Passes are distributed when the eligible quizzes are submitted. Again, there are only three!

Leg #1, Clue #2 - Music Albums

Route Info

Now that you’re warmed up, it's time to head to our first category of the course— Music. For those of you who’ve done the race before, Music has always been a category appearing in the last half of the course, but it doesn’t make sense to leave one of the site’s most popular core categories for last each and every time.

For this task, you need to pick a favourite album. Any album. And you need to write a quiz about it. Any artist, any genre. As long as it’s one single album, you’re good. Let the music play!
-----------------

1. The Rockettes - [Rossian] - Dire Straits: ‘Brothers in Arms’
2. ALEC-24 - [Joepetz] - Sgt. Pepper's Missing Words
3. The Drop Bears - [1nn1] - Classic Album Review: "Hotel California"
4. The Leftovers - [ClaudiaCat] - Meat Loaf Shines Through "Bat Out of Hell"
5. The Eggtetts - [Creedy] - "Sherry & 11 Others" - The Four Seasons
6. What a Team - [AcrylicInk] - Direct Hits
7. 1-A - [Kankurette] - 'The Holy Bible' by The Manic Street Preachers
8. 3 Yanks and a Brit - [PDAZ] - The Beatles: "Yesterday and Today"
9. The Four Winds - [Zorba_Scank] - "Faces" by Earth, Wind and Fire

For supplementary quizzes, try these:
[Kyleisalive] - Metric - “Fantasies”
[Eburge] - Lyrics of "Gameshow"
[Pollucci19] - This is London Calling

Leg #1, Clue #3 - 'Taking Note'

Road Block

A Road Block is a task that only one member of your team may complete. To receive your next clue, said member will need to notify me personally via PM on the main site to claim the challenge. They may not switch team members and they may not request help to complete the task— this is all on them.

For this task, the choice is yours: who’s ready to take note?

-----------------

Music is a popular category, but how often do people take a look deeper than the sound and the flashy production of it all? For this task, you need to write a quiz in one of these subcategories relating to the behind-the-scenes of the musical world.

Writers, Producers & Record Labels
Music Theory
Musical Instruments (or any of its subcategories)

Not everyone can sing or dance, but hopefully if you know your music, you don’t need to have all the glitz and glam. Any format of quiz will do for this task, but if you avoid using a Match Quiz you’ll earn your team a thirty minute time credit at the next Pit Stop.

-----------------

1. ALEC-24 - [Looney_Tunes] - Make It Music
2. The Rockettes - [Mlcmlc] - Folk Instruments
3. The Drop Bears - [Ozzz2002] - Simple Music Theory
4. The Eggtetts - [Tiffanyram] - Latin-American Percussion Instruments
5. The Leftovers - [Upstart3] - Slip Sliding Away
6. 1-A - [Dcpddc478] - Unusual Musical Instruments
7. What a Team - [Clevercatz] - Swan Song

Leg #1, Clue #4 - Song Title Quiz

Route Info

Fire up the instruments— you’re not done being musical. For this task, you need to write a quiz (any category of your choosing), but the quiz title needs to be a song title. If you write a quiz using a title from the Author Lounge album challenges (any one of them) then you’ll get a thirty minute time credit for doing so.

-----------------

1. ALEC-24 - [Ponycargirl] - Bluer Than Blue
2. The Rockettes - [Pagea] - Respect
3. The Drop Bears - [1nn1] - Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves

LEG #1, PIT STOP

A Pit Stop is a period of rest at which teams can take a short reprieve from the fast-paced race around FunTrivia. Here, their quizzes from the previous leg can continue to go online and they will depart at a specific time based on their advantages/penalties.

For this leg of the race, each correction notice results in a 30 minute time penalty.

Teams with quizzes still in the queue by the start of Leg 2 must keep their quizzes submitted. While that team member will not be able to submit until said quiz is placed online, they will not receive any penalties. Should they receive corrections on their late quiz, it shall be applied to the next Pit Stop (30 minutes per correction). Unfortunately, on the open tasks allowing for a choice amongst all of the categories, it is luck of the draw. Please use your best judgment when submitting to busy categories. ;)

------

Leg 2 of the Race will commence on August 30 at 12:00am (FST). Due to time credits, several teams will leave before the scheduled start time.

Leg #2, Clue #1 - 'Author Challenge or Editor's Choice'

Detour

A Detour is a choice between two tasks, each with their own pros and cons. Some Detour tasks may prove to be better options for teams depending on their strengths and weaknesses, but some choices may facilitate speedier or more creative results. Only one of these quizzes needs to be completed.

-----------------

Author Challenge – Write a quiz using a title from the Author Challenge list. The submission must be a typical multiple choice quiz or a photo quiz.

Editor's Choice – The editors want your submissions to be stellar and are always eager to make a stand-out submission an Editor’s Choice. Write a quiz in a subcategory used for one of the past twenty Editor’s Choice quizzes. Any template is usable.

1. ALEC-24 - [Ponycargirl] - Ancient Capitals of the World

Leg #2, Clue #2 - Non-Christian Religion

Route Info

Alas! We are but mere mortals. For this task, you’re heading to the Religion category. You can create a quiz in any section of the category, but you can NOT use Christianity or The Bible or any of their subcategories. The rest of the section is fair-game. Any quiz format will do.

Leg #2, Clue #3 - 'A Godspell'

Road Block

A Road Block is a task that only one member of your team may complete. To receive your next clue, said member will need to notify me personally via PM on the main site to claim the challenge. They may not switch team members and they may not request help to complete the task— this is all on them.

For this task, the choice is yours: who’s eager for a godspell?

-----------------

Since we’re on a streak of following Gods and customs regarding religion, perhaps you could investigate a pantheon of some sort? You’re leading the charge over to the Humanities category and you’ll need to write a quiz in the Mythology & Legends section— any subcategory. There are many subcategories throughout the section, and if you write a quiz in one that’s already been used by another author for this race, you’ll receive a thirty minute time penalty at the next Pit Stop.

Leg #3, Clue #1 - 'Some Words'

Road Block

A Road Block is a task that only one member of your team may complete. To receive your next clue, said member will need to notify me personally via PM on the main site to claim the challenge. They may not switch team members and they may not request help to complete the task— this is all on them.

For this task, the choice is yours: can we have a word or two?

-----------------

Before we leave the Humanities category altogether, let's do a bit of a side-step.

In the Author Lounge, the recent addition of the '100 Nouns' single question game has gone over successfully. This task isn't asking you to write single questions, but it is asking you to examine the lists in there.

Find the 100 Nouns lists-- the current one will work OR any of our past ones. You need to write a quiz, and it can be any type of quiz, but the title must contain a noun from List A and a noun from List B. Both nouns chosen must be from the same complete list (so you could write a title using 'abacus' and 'Aleutian Islands', both from '100 Nouns 1'). There are no category requirements for this task.

You may use any of the nouns in any of those lists, but if you create a quiz title that duplicates any of the nouns used by another team, both your team and their team will receive an hour penalty at the next Pit Stop.

Express Pass

You're a good team, right? One of those 'gets along well with others' types of teams? No one would dream of using the same nouns as you just to make sure you're hindered at the next Pit Stop. Would they?

Or maybe you're the 'strategic team' and you're playing the game to its fullest extent. You purposely sabotaged yourself and another team with the hopes of making it up at the Pit Stop.

I have THREE Express Passes to hand out here at this task, and if you want to have one, you just have to tell me you're going for it and you can attempt the task below. Or move on. Your call. Why dwell, right?

To claim an Express Pass: You need to write a quiz using one of the 100 Nouns Lists in the Author Lounge. There are quite a few of them. Your quiz needs to contain TWENTY of those nouns, and at least half of them need to be Proper Nouns (from List B). Tough, I know, but these rewards shouldn't come easily.

Leg #3, Clue #2 - Toys By Decade

Route Info

We have to start heading onward to another category, so let's gather our things and travel to Hobbies!

It's all fun-and-games until you head to the Games & Toys section for this task. What you need to do is write a ten-question quiz (and it can NOT be a Match Quiz) in the Toys By Decade subcategory specifically. You can choose any decade you wish, but obviously, the subcategory requires that you just focus on one. Pick one decade, and make sure not to cross into another!

Leg #4, Clue #1 - 'Reboot or Remix'

Detour

A Detour is a choice between two tasks, each with their own pros and cons. Some Detour tasks may prove to be better options for teams depending on their strengths and weaknesses, but some choices may facilitate speedier or more creative results. Only one of these quizzes needs to be completed.

-----------------

Reboot – Write a quiz in either the Movies or the Television categories. Your topic must be a single movie or TV show that has been rebooted or remade over the years in some way. You MUST write about the latter version-- not the original.

Remix – Head to the Music category. What you need to do is head to the Remakes & Covers subcategory (or any of its deeper subcategories) and write a quiz there.

CAUTION: Double U-Turn Ahead!

-----------------

1. ALEC-24 - [WesleyCrusher] - The More That Changes...
6. 3 Yanks and a Brit - [Kaddarsgirl] - Things That Go Bump In The Night
7. The Eggtetts - [Creedy] - Star Trek and the Next Generation
8. What a Team - [Windrush] - A Fistful of Dollars - Spaghetti and Sushi Western
9. The Four Winds - [Zorba_Scank] - It Happened One Night - Bollywood Style

Remix

3. The Rockettes - [Rossian] - The Sincerest Form of Flattery?
4. The Leftovers - [Upstart3] - Covered With Glory
5. 1-A - [Apathy100] - 90s Covers of 80s Tracks

Quizzes ordered based on submission to the queue-- not by when they were placed online-- to reflect game standings.

For supplementary quizzes, try these:

Double U-Turn

You have arrived at the DOUBLE U-TURN.

If you choose, you may force another team to complete the other side of the Detour that they did not originally choose, thus expanding the breadth of information added to the site. If that team has already passed, the U-Turn will be ineffective.

Two teams may choose to use this U-Turn (as it is a Double) but a team may only use it once, and any team can not be U-Turned twice in one leg of the race. If a team is U-Turned, all teams passing by will know who has been selected and who did the deed.

First come, first serve.

You must notify Kyle via PM on the main site if you do or do not wish to use the U-Turn. You must also notify him if you can not use the U-Turn for any reason (ie. It has already been used or you have used up your U-Turn ability). When this is done you may receive your next clue.

THE EGGTETTS HAVE BEEN U-TURNED BY 1-A
The Eggtetts - [Emiloony] - As Covered By the Beatles

Leg #4, Clue #2 - Film Celebrities

Route Info

The world has, by-and-large, an overwhelming fascination with celebrity. For this task, what you need to do is focus on a single media celebrity. You can write a quiz in either the People Themed area of Something in Common in the Movies category or just generally in the Celebrities category, but there are some stipulations.

Your quiz MUST be about an actor or actress who has starred in a theatrically-released film in 2018.
Said film must be the topic of one question your quiz.
You may NOT write a Match Quiz.
You may use up to two FITB questions.
You may NOT use T/F or Y/N questions.
The title of your quiz can not include the words 'The', 'By', 'Of', or 'With'.
The celebrity you choose may not have a first or last name that begins with the same first letter as the quiz author's username.

I know these demands are picky, but you know celebrities, right? Always so demanding.
