Not a sense of humor. More like a killer instinct. It knows you have Tier 6 in Word Weaver and doesn't want you to get to Tier 7. It is programmed by Skynet to stop you, the Word Wizard Terminator. Reply #1. Jun 14 19, 1:33 PM |

That's the point (re WANTING a Z). The program knows;. so until you can project 'Anything but a 'Z'-ness' at it, you don't stand a chance. Reply #5. Jun 15 19, 8:33 AM |

Yes it was hardly in doubt. With my 12 letters and a surfeit of vowels I traded two in for the...Q. (no U's of course) find the appropriate swearword to introduce for my feelings about this ******* system Reply #7. Jun 17 19, 8:23 AM |

If you have been waiting a long time to complete the Alchemy or Safari badges, here's a hint: Don't trade out letters. Do try to hold on to the letters you need to complete the badges. Concentrate on those badges only. Forget about getting the 11 or 12 letter long words until you finish the Safari or Alchemy badges. When I became gold, I won the Alchemy badge about two weeks later. It took me a couple of months, maybe 3 or 4, to win the Safari badge. I only have one long word because once I won all the available badges, I pretty much stopped playing Word Wizard. Now I play it maybe once or twice a day. The upgrades don't mean much to me. Reply #11. Jun 18 19, 2:26 AM |

All the available badges? I don't think so. Where's Word Marathon? It should appear right after Wordsmith. It is the Word Wizard equivalent of a "Mastery badge". Reply #12. Jun 18 19, 3:06 AM |

Yeah, you're right. I forgot about that one. I don't bother to play a lot so I don't collect letters. I don't make a lot of words. Word Mrathon for the 5,000 points is a badge I'm not even considering as one to go after. Reply #13. Jun 18 19, 3:57 AM |

I actually agree with your general strategy, though, MJ. Mine, which was very similar, was to go first for Alchemy, then for Safari (I picked up Wordsmith along the way - it's pretty easy), and not until then to start focusing on making long words. I did not intentionally try for the 11, though. I don't try to force what isn't there. Instead, I worked on setting a minimum of 8 letters for submission (after getting Alchemy and Safari, first, of course), and taking anything longer if possible. Eventually the 11-letter word (and Word Weaver) will come. The only exceptions I made to my "minimum 8" policy were Daily Challenges or extremely rare 4 letter words to get rid of awful letters not immediately tradable. But I did pursue Word Marathon. I averaged 8-10 Word Wizard plays per day over a year and a half. My goal was to submit one word of 8 letters or longer every day. With very few failures (maybe 6-10 over that entire period of time), that's what I did. One long word every day. Then I reached 5000 points, got Word Marathon and have played only occasionally since (mostly for Daily Challenges.) Reply #14. Jun 18 19, 4:13 AM |

Probably should revise my 8-10 number. To get a minimum 8-letter word each day, given that I letter traded relatively frequently, probably took more like 10-13 Word Wizard plays a day, now that I think about it. That's a whole lot of work, I'll admit. But I almost *never* failed to score enough to get a letter when I played. My vocabulary is extensive enough to get letters quite easily, but not extensive enough to actually win my Word Wizard sets except very rarely (probably only finished #1 a handful of times.) Optimal strategies, game theory, that's my bag. Getting the most badges I'm able to (and suited for) in the least possible amount of time. Then sharing what I did to see if others had an even more efficient approach. People are always free to ignore unsolicited advice. But it helps those who want some tips. That's one of the reasons I read the boards: to learn from what others have tried. Reply #17. Jun 18 19, 5:43 AM |

Finally! It has taken me the best part of a week but I got rid of all my letters and left myself with a V. (penitential -- I hope the machine has repented...) Its nice to get the crap letters early; then you can switch them out at your leisure. I still haven't cracked the issue of what happens when your first eight letters are good and the next 4 bad.... Right now I'd be happy with any letter other than A. What's everyone's least received letter? For me I think it's the Y. Very rare to see one of those. Probably G would be next. Reply #20. Jun 19 19, 2:34 PM |
