Subject: Author's Kitchen - A silly question

Posted by: gme24

Since this challenge is restricted to authors, what is the problem with publishing the ingredients needed for each dish.
My reasoning is that you get ingredients whenever you publish a quiz, or three questions.
You cannot borrow or steal from a fellow author.
So why the secrecy?

There are a number of hidden recipes that are only achievable by watching other players create them or by trial and error (ie. they won't be revealed until they're made).

On the other side, the aim is incentivization. Write a quiz, and not only get ingredients, but a new recipe as well, so you can continue to accumulate in both directions. Handing over all four hundred recipes out the gate loses some of the "what will I get?" of the game, which does have a draw for players (saying this with my video gaming hat on).

Kyle has said the main reasons--there are differing elements of surprise.

That said, we don't really mind if small groups of players trade information. What we don't want is a big public list that everyone across the site can access.

The element of "What will I get" still remains, even if you do know what you need. For example, I have currently a couple of recipes that need mustard.
I continue to write quizzes and crosswords, hoping that one day I will get what I need.

Recently, when Yoghurt made the first of its two recent appearances, I finally managed to reach the elusive 400 mark. It was quite an undertaking to get to that point.

Meantime, I'm kinda hoping that some new recipes/ingredients will be introduced. It's a fun game and I'd like to be able to use some of the 500+ items currently in my larder.

Trident is the one to ask about that as he spearheaded the game! One of these days he might run out of foods. :D

Ha! An expansion of foods may be in order in the future. It actually takes quite a bit of time to create the icons and get everything in order.

Kyle says: "By watching other players create them."

How do I do that? : )

If you click on 'Who's Made What?' you can pick up some hints about the dish made.

I love the Author's Kitchen! Still waiting for walnuts to appear as it's the only thing I need for one of my recipes...

I've been wondering...with all available dishes already created by someone, should the Innovative Chef badgelet be retired?

There was a stipulation added to the badge that if you create a certain number of dishes without recipes, you could earn the badge. Honestly, I can't remember if it was 3 or 5 or even a different number.

Oh, OK, that makes sense. Thanks!

I thought about making that kind of suggestion for the Food Innovator badge. I honestly doubt new dishes are added to the menu regularly, and once someone figures out any of them, it locks out every other player from getting the badge.

Awarding it to a certain number of recipes guessed 'blindly' sounds quite fair. Speaking of which, how about making it a tiered badge?

Another question....I just had a quiz go live, but didn't get a new recipe. I'm obsessed with recipes! It was a Mystery sort quiz -- did I make the wrong kind? TY!

Hi, if you have already created a dish through experimentation (without a recipe), then sometimes the system will reward you with that recipe. In that case, it looks like you have not gotten a new recipe.

And eventually you will have received all the recipes that are currently being handed out, and will need to spend time playing with ingredients to make new dishes. Or just accumulate ingredients, and wait for another batch to be released.
