Subject: BINGO!

Posted by: kyleisalive
Date: Mar 28 24

We've heard the requests and we agree! Single questions need some attention! In addition to the refresh of the Lounge single question games, we have some new fun on tap, and for this you'll need to pull up a seat, grab a card, and play!

We're rolling out the numbers on AUTHOR BINGO today! Accessible from your Author Central page, this new game is single question-centric. You'll get a card of twenty-five topics and the goal is to create lines or whole cards based on the prompts. You simply need to click the suggested word or phrase and proceed from there, making a question with that key item in the question itself or the correct answer. Each card is a new set; no two cards are the same!

And naturally, there are badges for this one. Of course. ;)

It's a nice idea and I've done questions for the first line.

Just to clarify this, each player gets a different Bingo card? Because I have none of the submitted words by other players on my card. And, how long does the card stay on my page? Until I finish it entirely, i.e., write questions with all the words?

To clarify, some people might find some similar or same words; there is a list that the game runs off with thousands of offerings. But that being said, no one should be seeing the same full card.

You have as long as you want to complete the card. Or, if you have enough for a line and want to try a different card, you can cash it in and get a new card.

I'm not planning to trade my card in as I've thought of all the questions but if someone did and completed a line on the new card after completing one line on the old card, would they get another two points?

I'm excited to see this game launch! I hope that the prompts on the bingo cards can help spawn a lot of new ideas for single questions. And I love the new badges for the game as well. It's great to see single question authors get rewarded!

Good luck everyone!

By points, do you mean prestige points? As far as I know, the One-Liner badge increases in how many lines you need to complete to level up the badge.

Re: misstified

They would contribute to their Bingo! badge since it adds up cumulative lines across cards.

The Bingo Jackpot badge looks at full cards, so trading them in early will not count for that.

Fantastic idea Kyle, Trident, Terry, and who ever else had a hand in this. This will be a great motivator.

One question, does the word have to be exactly as it appears on the card? So if I had the word 'tree' could I use 'trees'? Or if it is "act" could I use "acting"?

I can't wait to have a day off to get cracking.

Embedding the word in a larger word appears to be fine.

High five (or fist bump) to all those that made this Bingo game. What a fantastic way to get ideas for single Q's. Word prompts like this are difficult for a full quiz but for single Q's they're perfect. This is definitely better than real bingo, haha.

I'm trying to think of a way the Wikichain could work to have a badge for it similarly but I guess it's the same concept of having words that prompt you to write a Q on that or have it as the answer.

I'm thrilled with myself for using one of my words to write a question about that Willy Wonka Experience event in Glasgow from last month.

I am really delighted with this new challenge, and have been busy writing questions. It is also a wonderful opportunity to write something in the last few days of the month, when I usually refrain from starting new templates while waiting for the new Author Gallery requirements. Some of the words are easier than others, but so far I have not come across anything that was not doable. Thanks to Terry and everyone else involved in this great new initiative!

This one was Terry, Trident, and Wes. I got to play guinea pig this time (which is something I don't often get to do). I'm enjoying it just as much, and am effectively eating away at this first card.

I'm still enjoying the challenge too but a glitch in the system may have arisen. Thanks to the hard work of the editors in checking the questions, I have completed a line but not been awarded the one-liner badge or prestige points and the narrative says they should be awarded on completion.

You do need to cash in your card when you are ready to have your lines/card count for the badges (the button for it is underneath the card). The page will tell you how many lines you are expected to claim from the card and, of course, the questions need to be accepted for the boxes to turn green and the lines to count.

You get to make the choice as to when you turn the card in though; it's not automatic in the sense that the system will hand over the badge as soon as it sees the card go green, but it is automatic from when you send in the card.

After all the questions in one line have been approved (they will turn green), you will see a link under the Bingo card, which prompts you to choose whether you want to claim the line for the beginner's badge, or wait until you complete more lines. If you choose to claim the line, you'll get a new card, so you'll have to start from scratch. I got the badge earlier this afternoon, and am quite happy with the new card I got.
