Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Gaming titan Nintendo is officially founded

Prior to gaming, Nintendo was largely immersed in the production of playing cards and card games. Nintendo was officially founded in September 23, 1889. Nintendo's first ever actual involvement with a video game came in 1972. Over the course of the next fifty plus years however, it would manifest into an absolute giant in the industry.
2. Author Mark Twain dies

Twain passed away at the age of 74 years old. He died of heart failure while he was at his home in Redding, Connecticut.

The author was much beloved for his characters who inspired and entertained the nations young and old alike. He passed in the middle of 1910. Twain authored some legendary books, such as "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer". His true name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens, as Mark Twain was his pen name.
3. The Nineteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution, allowing women to vote, is ratified

Tennessee was the 36th and final US state required in order to meet the three-fourths majority prerequisite to officially adopt the amendment. This took place on August 18th of 1920. Just eight days later, on the 26th, it was officially certified as part of the US Constitution.
4. Charles Lindbergh makes his famous solo transatlantic flight across the Atlantic Ocean

This took place on May 20, 1927. Lindbergh flew his own custom made craft, which he donned "The Spirit of St. Louis." The flight lasted well over a day, at roughly 33 1/2 hours, in which Lindbergh flew 3610 miles, touching down in Paris, France.

Sadly, just a few years later he and his wife would be in the news again. This time it was over the kidnapping and murder of his son. That said, they still went on to live long lives, as Lindbergh passed in 1974 at the age of 72 years old. In life, he was a decorated serviceman, contributing nearly 40 years of his life in total to numerous US Air Services. In 1927, he received a US Congressional Medal of Honor.
5. Battle of Midway takes place

This took place between June 4-7 in 1942, roughly six months after Japan's infamous attack on Pearl Harbor. It took place in the Pacific Ocean. The lives of 307 Americans along with a carrier and a destroyer were lost by American forces during the fighting.

Ultimately, the United States won the Battle of Midway. While the US suffered tragic loss, it paled in comparison the death totals Japan suffered. Where the US lost a carrier and a destroyer, the Japanese lost four major fleet carriers, a heavy cruiser, and a human death toll spanning over three thousand.
Fought in close proximity, time wise, to the bombing at Pearl Harbor, this victory for the US ensured that Japan would not be in position to repeat similar efforts elsewhere across the country. Furthermore, the Japanese would essentially be forced to play defense for the remainder of World War II as a result.
6. President John F Kennedy is shot

Kennedy was assassinated in late November of 1963. It took place as JFK, along with his wife, Jacqueline Kennedy, were in Texas amidst a five city fundraising tour. Unfortunately, Kennedy was struck by two separate bullets in relatively rapid succession, and was pronounced death shortly after being rushed to a local hospital.

JFK's killer, Lee Harvey Oswald, would never stand trial for the killing, as he himself was shot and killed while being transferred to a county jail. Interestingly, the weapon Oswald used in the killing, the Mannlicher-Carcano rifle, cost him just under $20 to purchase.
7. Branch Davidian Compound is burned to the ground in Waco, Texas

During a horrific 1993 standoff between the FBI and a religious sect at a compound known as Mt Carmel, the compound was set ablaze when the FBI opted to use tear gas a means of attempting to force a surrender. The FBI had interest in the compound as leader David Koresh and the members was accused of possessing illegal weapons and engaging in abusive practices. Many casualties, some to children, were suffered. It was overall an extremely grim affair.

Two years later to the day, the United States would suffer its worst act of terrorism when Timothy McVeigh bombed the Oklahoma City Federal building. This bombing was in retaliation for the Waco incident.
8. Osama bin Laden is killed

Osama bin Laden is well known for openly and publicly declaring war on the US. His terrorist organization, al-Qaeda, was largely responsible, with bin Laden even formally claiming responsibility for the horrendous tragedy that is 9/11 in the United States. In late 2010, reliable intelligence discerned where bin Laden was hiding, as he had been formally placed on the Most-Wanted Terrorist List in 2001.

He was shot and killed by U.S. Navy SEALs during an early-morning raid on his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. The name of the 'mission' was Operation Neptune Spear, and it consisted of 24 SEALs involved with the raid. bin Laden was later buried at sea, just hours after his death.
9. The OceanGate Titan begins its eventual fatal dive towards the Titanic

The OceanGate Titan was a five person submersible designed with the intention of personally reaching the sunken Titanic.

The craft officially began its dive on June 18th of 2023. It reportedly lost contact with the outside world less than two hours in. It was later discovered that the craft had suffered a major implosion. Unfortunately, as you might expect, there were no survivors. Before the craft could even dive, concerns were expressed over the submersible's arguably illogical design, featuring a hull with a carbon fiber and titanium.
10. Charlie Kirk is killed

Charlie Kirk was a right-wing political activist who was well known for organizing events across US college campuses and speaking to people at them. Despite Kirk's staunch conservative views, major political icons on the left and right came out to condemn the shooting. Shortly after Kirk was killed, a man was arrested under suspicion of having performed the act, which came after a 33 hour long man hunt in which no other suspect was named. Kirk died on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

The funeral took place eleven days later, on the 21st.
