The 2002 fantasy novel "Night Watch" sees the protagonist Sir Samuel Vimes, commander of the City Watch, transported back in time whilst pursuing a notorious criminal. The book is 29th in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series with the cover of the book parodying Rembrandt's "The Night Watch" painting from 1642.

Russo was also the actor who portrayed the first ghoul stabbed in the head in the film.

He then wrote the book "Night of the Living Dead", which was published in 1974.
