When Fern's father decides to kill a baby pig because he is too small, she convinces him to spare the pig's life. He tells her to take care of the pig. She names him Wilbur. He lives with her for a few weeks, but then her father sells him to her uncle's farm.

The goose sees that Wilbur is sad and urges him to talk so he'll feel better. At first he is reluctant to talk. Then he struggles, but finally says his name. After that, he sings a song called "I Can Talk", which he proves that not only can he talk easily, he has quite a vocabulary.

He'd been alive for just a few weeks and he used words that many people don't know until they are adults or never learn at all. I'm talking about words like "aplomb" and "pragmatically".

When the ram's son asks if he can play with Wilbur, the ram refuses to allow it. The ram says that there are two reasons. The first reason is that sheep never play with pigs. The second reason is because Wilbur will be slaughtered.

The title character, Charlotte, is a spider. She befriends Wilbur and promises to save his life. She does so by spinning messages in her web. The first one is "Some Pig". These messages convince the humans that Wilbur is a special pig and they eventually convince the owner of the farm to spare Wilbur's life.

The goose lays eight eggs. Seven of them hatch. One of them doesn't. The goose lets Templeton take it. When Fern's brother tries to kill Charlotte, Wilbur gets in the way and makes him back up until he accidentally smashes the rotten egg, which causes a massive stink to fill the air that makes him go away.

The rat goes out and finds newspapers or labels on food cans or anything that has a word on it that might be appropriate for the web. He gets paid in food. Words that he finds include "Radiant" and "Humble". Charlotte spins these words into her web. This makes the humans love Wilbur.

When Wilbur becomes famous because of all the messages in the web, Zuckerman (the owner of the farm) takes him to the country fair. Charlotte goes with him so she can spin one more message for him. She tells the rat to go with him so he can fetch one more message for the web.

When he is reluctant to go, the goose sings a song to him that convinces him that the fair will have all the food that he could possibly want. The rat hides under some hay while Charlotte hides in a hole in the fence because they weren't invited.

The gosling wants to go with them, but the humans see him and take him out. We never see him with Wilbur again.

It turns out Charlotte was old and knew she was going to die soon. She'd been helping Wilbur so she could feel good about her last moments alive. At the fair, she does three final things. She lays an egg sack with 514 eggs. She spins "Humble" into her web because the rat finds that word and she believes it perfectly describes Wilbur. Lastly, she sings one final song.

When the song is over, she dies.

Answer: Take care of the egg sack

Because their mother is dead, someone needs to take care of the baby spiders. That someone is Wilbur. We never find out what happened to the spiders' real father.

Answer: No

Most of them were very ungrateful. As soon as they hatched, they flew away. This makes Wilbur depressed to the point where he starts digging a hole so he can run away. The ram directs him to three baby spiders who didn't fly away. Wilbur gives two of them names and lets one of them name herself.

The narrator lets us know that he enjoyed their company, but not as much as he liked Charlotte.
