Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules (2022) Quiz

The film begins with Greg narrating about how it's great having an older brother because they can teach you stuff. However, his brother Rodrick is usually too busy with his band 'Loded Diper' to teach Greg anything. The name Loded Diper is mentioned several times in the film but its derivation is never explained. Greg and Rodrick do have a toddler brother so my guess is that's where the name comes from.

Answer: Mom bucks

Rodrick tells Greg that for doing chores around the house he has been given 'mom bucks'. Their parents are leaving to go to the city for the weekend and Rodrick turns in his mom bucks to his mother for real cash. Greg is baffled by the fact that he has never been told about or given mom bucks before.

Answer: Lock them in the basement

Rodrick tells Greg that they are the Heffley Brothers and they are going to throw the best party ever. Comically, Greg invites one friend while Rodrick invites over 50. Greg's best friend Rowley is wary about being at a party with high school students but he agrees to help set up.

After they are finished setting up, Rodrick promptly locks them in the basement. They scream and bang on the door to be let out but it is so loud that no one can hear them and only Rodrick knows they are down there. One can guess that Rodrick locked them down there because they are in middle school and he didn't want his high school friends hanging out with them.

Answer: Never Gonna Give You Up

Greg and Rowley are forced to spend the night in the basement after Rodrick locks the door leading down there. In the morning one of Rodrick's friends accidentally unlocks the door allowing Greg and Rowley to come out. Seeing a huge mess and all of the high school partygoers sleeping, he puts on a record and blasts the chorus of the song "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley. Comically, Rodrick's friends all wake up in disgust when they hear the song and they promptly leave.

"Never Gonna Give You Up" was the debut single by the English singer Rick Astley and it was released in 1987. The song reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and it was a chart topper in 25 countries worldwide. I find the song catchy and enjoyable, but it is consistently listed on many 'Worst Songs of the 1980s' lists.

Answer: Door

Rodrick and Greg work to clean up the house after the party and they think they are done before they notice that the bathroom door has the words 'Rodrick Rules!!!' in permanent ink. They quickly run down to the basement and remove a door from there from the hinges and switch the doors. Later their dad comments that he thought the bathroom door had a lock.

Answer: Unload the dishwasher

Greg and Rodrick are told by their parents before they leave to not do anything they wouldn't do and to unload the dishwasher. Their dad doesn't think it's a great idea for them to be left home alone together as he thinks Rodrick may be a bad influence on Greg but their mom wants them to have some bonding time.

After their toddler brother gets sick while at their grandmother's house, their parents have to come home early and they are again reminded to unload the dishwasher. However, they had to clean up the house which had been ransacked from the party the night before so they forget to unload the dishwasher causing their parents to be frustrated.

Answer: No apostrophe or any other nerd stuff

Greg tells Rodrick that it should be called 'Rodrick's Rules' rather than 'Rodrick Rules' and he is quickly corrected and told that the first rule is no apostrophe or any other nerd stuff. Rodrick further tells Greg that doing nerdy stuff will get you beat up at school and you won't have many friends.

After Greg accidentally shows his mom pictures of Rodrick's party, Rodrick tells Greg that another Rodrick Rule is no snitching. Other Rodrick rules include setting the bar low, well timed bathroom breaks and pretend you don't know how to do something.

Answer: Gutbusters

Greg and Rodrick's parents decide to try and take another trip to the city but after the party escapades they don't leave Greg and Rodrick home alone again. They are taken to their grandfather's retirement community 'Leisure Towers'. While there they play games with their grandfather including one called 'Gutbusters'. The game's cards have terminology that precedes Rodrick and Greg by decades but they play along anyway and laugh it up. During one of the rounds Rodrick laughs so much that he spits up his milk onto Greg prompting him to go to the bathroom to change and then everything spirals out of control because he accidentally goes into the women's bathroom.

Grandpa Heffley was voiced by the actor Ed Asner who died in 2021 and the film "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules" is dedicated to his memory.

Answer: Do Plants Sneeze?

When Greg finds out that there is a project due that day he implores Rodrick to help him. Of course Rodrick asks for some mom bucks first and then he gives him an old project of his that he claims was his best work. Rather than look at it right then, Greg takes the project to school and eventually shows it to Rowley.

When opened, it is titled 'Do Plants Sneeze?' and it has three panels with no data, very few words, and a couple of pictures. They see that Rodrick had gotten an 'F' on it in the past and Greg knows that he is doomed because it is 25% of his grade.

In a later scene one of Rodrick's bandmates asks him if plants sneeze after he sees the project and he tells him that they don't.

Answer: Drums

Rodrick is the drummer of Loded Diper and his band is one of the final acts of the school talent show. After his party exploits are uncovered, Rodrick's parents ground him and tell him he can't perform in the talent show. Greg is set to take his place as drummer and is happy about the popularity it brings him but he knows that taking his brother's spot isn't right. Greg gives Rodrick back his drumsticks and lets him play drums in the talent show with his band. Greg's parents tell him he's grounded additional time but he tells them it's worth it since he's doing his brother a solid.
