Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti."

Answer: "You think if Catherine lives, you won't wake up in the dark ever again, to that awful screaming of the lambs."

The quote was said in the 1995 movie "The Silence of the Lambs" by Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins). The first quote was in response to being shown defiance by FBI trainee Clarice Starling who visits him in his mental asylum. The second quote is during a later meeting, when he forces her to reveal parts of her past to him in exchange for help in catching a dangerous serial killer.

When she reveals that she is traumatized by the screaming of lambs ready for slaughter, he subtly mocks her ambition and plays at her weaknesses by suggesting that solving the cause would help her trauma.
2. "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse."

Answer: "You talk about vengeance. Is vengeance gonna bring your boy back to you, or my son back to me?"

The first quote is uttered when the "Godfather" Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) promises his godson that he will help him land a movie role by putting pressure on a studio head. He later decapitates the man's horse and leaves it in bed next to him. After the bitter war between the Cosa Nostra, the second quote is uttered when Vito is attempting to make peace with the heads of the other families.

His son Sonny Corleone has been killed, but he wants to put an end to the bloodshed in order to preserve what is left of his family and of their mutual business.
3. "You can't handle the truth!"

Answer: "Well apparently he's not very happy down here at Shangri-La because he's written letters to everyone but Santa Claus asking for a transfer."

The second quote is said about Private Santiago, a marine under the command of Colonel Jessup (Jack Nicholson), a tough seasoned veteran. He is expressing his displeasure that a marine private is dissatisfied with the quality of his life in the barracks.

This private is later killed in a cruel prank issued by the Colonel himself. The first quote is the famous courtroom scene where he is being questioned about his role in the death of the private, when he screams at the military prosecutor that he cannot handle the truth about the difficult decisions a marine commander has to make in order to ensure the compliance of his troops, minutes before his confession.
4. "My mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."

Answer: "He's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. But is he smart?"

In the opening scene of "Forrest Gump", the title character, played to perfection by Tom Hanks, is telling a stranger at a bus stop about his life story. During this conversation, he references one of his mother's favorite sayings (the famous first quote).

The second quote is said after he meets his childhood best friend and love interest, Jenny, who is dying of an unspecified illness (implied to be AIDS), and discovers they have a son together. As Forrest is mentally disabled, he is moved to tears by the presence of his son, and wants to make sure that he did not inherit his own disability.
5. "I see dead people."

Answer: "She saw you dance."

The first quote is the infamous line uttered by the supremely talented Haley Joey Osment, who is playing a trouble nine year old boy named Cole Sears, expressing to his psychiatrist Malcolm (Bruce Willis) that he can see ghosts who are unaware that they have already died.

The second line is delivered to Cole's mother, telling her that her own mother visits him sometimes and has confirmed to him that she saw her daughter dance at a recital years ago, despite having a fight earlier. This story confirms to Lynn (Toni Collette) that her son is not lying or crazy.
6. "I'm the king of the world!"

Answer: "Why'd you do that, huh? You're so stupid, Rose."

The first quote is said by Jack Dawson near the beginning of blockbuster movie "Titanic" when he is standing at the front of the ship, having just secured a third class ticket to America on the most famous ship in the world at the time. The second quote is much more macabre. With the Titanic's sinking inevitable, and not enough lifeboats left for all passengers on board, Rose's sadistic and envious fiancé, Cal Hockley, convinces her that he will take care of Jack and get him on a lifeboat later. As her life boat is lowered, allowing her life to be spared, she stares at Jack, standing next to Cal, still on the ship, and realizes that he will surely die.

She jumps off the boat and goes back to him and decides that they will survive or die together, prompting him to hug and kiss her passionately, while incredulous at her sheer stupidity.
7. "Houston, we have a problem."

Answer: "This is Odyssey. It's good to see you again."

The movie "Apollo 13" was based on a true story of the same-named lunar mission launched by the United States in 1970. The first line was uttered by Captain Jim Lovett (Tom Hanks), in contact with NASA Headquarters in Houston, informing them of a technical issue - an exploded oxygen tank that compromised the life support systems of the space craft.

The second line by the same character is said in the movie's climax as the spacecraft has returned safely to Earth, which was far from a guarantee given the circumstances.
8. "Here's Johnny!"

Answer: "I'm not being grouchy. I just want to finish my work."

In Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) is an angry and alcoholic writer that takes a winter job care taking a hotel in the middle of nowhere with his wife and son. The supernatural elements of the hotel eventually turn him completely insane.

The second quote is an early indication of his descent into mental instability, as he snaps at his wife to leave him alone as he is writing his novel. The first quote, famously improvised by Jack Nicholson, is uttered by Torrance through the crease of a doorway, blinded by a murderous rage, as he chases his wife and son and attempts to kill them both.
9. "Are you not entertained?"

Answer: "There was a dream that was Rome. It shall be realized."

In "Gladiator", Russel Crowe plays Maximus, a Roman general turned slave gladiator following a coup by the Emperor Commodus against his wife Marcus Aurelius. The new emperor attempts to kill the general loyal to his father, but his men fail to eliminate Maximus, though they tragically capture and crucify his wife and son.

He is captured by slavers where he forced to fight as a gladiator, and after a particularly brutal battle where he slays his opponents, he angrily asks the crowd if they are entertained by the death and bloodshed.

The second quote is said as a dying Maximus, having just killed Commodus, is relaying the wishes of the late Marcus Aurelius, praying that his vision will be realized, and Rome will be great again. He then dies and goes to be with his wife and son.
10. "Why so serious?"

Answer: "I know why you choose to have your little group therapy sessions in broad daylight. I know why you are afraid to go out at night."

Heath Ledger won a posthumous Academy Award for his performance as the sadistic Joker in "The Dark Knight". The primary antagonist of the movie is notorious for toying with his victims before killing or injuring them. He constantly tells them fake stories of how he got his scars, with each variation ending with a switch blade to their mouth while he asks "Why so serious? Let's put a smile on that face".

The second quote was said to a group of criminal bosses who were getting together to discuss how the Joker robbed them.

He lets them know that in return for keeping the money, he will kill their greatest fear, and the reason they are in constant fear for their businesses and freedom, which is Batman.
