Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What's the title of the 1990 crime drama that included this quote? "Funny like I'm a clown? I amuse you?"

Answer: Goodfellas

"Goodfellas" tells the story of mobster-turned-FBI-informant Henry Hill, and his 25 year association with the New York City Mafia. Ray Liotta, who plays Hill in the film, is part of a stellar cast which also includes, Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Paul Sorvino.

The quote appears in a scene where mob henchman and resident psychopath Tommy DeVito, played brilliantly by Pesci, is having dinner and drinks with some associates, including Henry. After Tommy tells the group an amusing story, Henry comments on what a funny guy he is, after which DeVito, who pretends to be insulted by the comment, goes on a very intense rant.

It's a great performance and one of the reasons why Joe Pesci took home the Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role at 1991 Academy Awards.
2. In which Paul Newman film would you find this classic line? "What we've got here is failure to communicate."

Answer: Cool Hand Luke

"Cool Hand Luke" is a prison film released in 1967, and is based on the novel of the same name by Donn Pearce. Newman portrays Lucas "Luke" Jackson, a decorated war veteran who, after a night of heavy drinking, decides to decapitate a few parking meters, after which he is arrested and sentenced to two years in a Florida prison camp. Because of his rebellious nature and inability to conform to the rules, the guards and in particular the prison warden (nicknamed the Captain and played by veteran actor Strother Martin), make it their mission to break him.

After Luke is returned to the prison following a failed escape attempt, Luke makes a remark that the Captain takes offense to; this results in Luke being beaten and pushed to the ground. The quote is the opening line of a short speech the Captain delivers to the other prisoners directly following the incident.
3. Which 1989 romantic comedy featured this memorable line? "I'll have what she's having."

Answer: When Harry Met Sally...

Released in 1989, "When Harry Met Sally..." was directed by Rob Reiner and stars Billy Crystal as Harry Burns and Meg Ryan as Sally Albright. The title characters first meet in 1977, when they share a ride to New York City following their graduation from the University of Chicago. During the drive they have a conversation about whether or not a man and a women can have a truly platonic relationship, Sally thinks it's possible, while Harry doesn't believe it is, saying, "the sex part gets in the way".

After arriving in New York they agree to disagree and go their separate ways. But as in most romantic comedies, they eventually fall in love and live happily ever after. The quote comes from a scene at Katz's Delicatessen in Manhattan, where Harry and Sally are having lunch.

After Sally demonstrates how easy it is to fake an orgasm, a woman in the deli, played by the director's mother Estelle Reiner, delivers the line. Katz's still has a sign hanging above the table where the two sat which reads, "Where Harry Met Sally...Hope You Have What She Had!"
4. What's the name of the 1969 drama that included this familiar line? "I'm walking here! I'm walking here!"

Answer: Midnight Cowboy

"Midnight Cowboy" stars Jon Voight as Joe Buck, a young man from Texas who moves to New York City in hopes of earning a living as a gigolo. After having very little success, he meets and forms a partnership with a street con named Ratso Rizzo (Dustin Hoffman), who is not only crippled, but is also in extremely bad health. Business doesn't get much better for Joe, but the two do become good friends. Ratso's dream has always been to one day move to Florida, so when his health begins to deteriorate further, Joe steals some money and purchases two tickets to Miami, but Ratso dies before they reach their destination.

The line is delivered by Ratso after he and Joe are nearly run over by a New York City cab while crossing the street.
5. Which 1978 comedy featured this historically inaccurate quote? "Over? Did you say over? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell, no!"

Answer: National Lampoon's Animal House

Set in 1962 at fictional Faber College, "National Lampoon's Animal House" follows the antics of the members of the less than prestigious Delta Tau Chi fraternity. Following a series of campus violations and mishaps, the Deltas, who are already on probation, have their charter revoked by the school's Dean, Vernon Wormer. Things only get worse for the frat boys, as their midterm grades are so bad that Wormer has them all expelled, which means they are now eligible for the draft.

The quote is part of an impassioned speech delivered by the fraternity's sergeant-at-arms John "Bluto" Blutarsky (John Belushi), in an attempt to rally his frat brothers, after they have all but given up.

In the end the Deltas get their revenge against the school and Dean Wormer by converting an old car into a float and turning the annual homecoming parade into a complete and utter disaster.
6. Please give me the name of the 1993 Western that included this quote. "I'm your huckleberry."

Answer: Tombstone

In the film, Wyatt Earp (Kurt Russell) along with his brothers Virgil (Sam Elliott) and Morgan (Bill Paxton) move to Tombstone, Arizona in hopes of settling down and leading a normal life, but the actions of a murderous gang of thugs known as the Cowboys, make that all but impossible.

The line is spoken twice in the film by Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer), each time directed at Johnny Ringo, a member of the Cowboys. The second time it's used is just prior to a gun duel between Holliday and Ringo, which ends in Ringo's death from a single shot to the head.

As far as the meaning of "I'm your huckleberry", it's a slang term for being the right person for a particular job.
7. Which Woody Allen film featured this very funny line? "I don't want to live in a city where the only cultural advantage is you can make a right turn on a red light."

Answer: Annie Hall

"Annie Hall" explores the on-again, off-again relationship between New York City comedian and slightly neurotic Alvy Singer, played by Woody Allen, and aspiring nightclub singer Annie Hall, portrayed by Diane Keaton. The story is told through the eyes of Alvy, as he reflects back on the reasons why the relationship eventually failed.

The quote is spoken by Alvy during a conversation with his friend Rob, who is trying to convince Alvy to leave New York City and move to Los Angeles.
8. In what film did this somewhat ironic quote appear? "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!"

Answer: Dr. Strangelove

The full name of the 1964 dark comedy is "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb", but is more commonly referred to by its shorter title. In the film, crazed U.S. Air Force General Jack D. Ripper believes the Russians are poisoning our water, so he orders a squadron of B-52 bombers to carry out a nuclear attack on the Soviet Union. What he's not aware of is that the Russians have invented a doomsday device, which is set to detonate if the Soviets come under nuclear attack. Once the device is activated, it is capable of wiping out all human and animal life on the planet.

It is now up to the President of the United States and his advisors to figure out a way to get the bomber pilots to abort the mission, but in the end they are unsuccessful.

The line is spoken by the President, one of three characters portrayed by the incomparable Peter Sellers, after a tussle breaks out between a U.S. General and the Russian ambassador.
9. In which 1992 sports-themed film did you hear manager Jimmy Dugan exclaim, "There's no crying in baseball!"?

Answer: A League of Their Own

"A League of Their Own" is a fictionalized story about the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL), and one of its founding members the Rockford Peaches. The film takes place in 1943, where due to America's participation in World War II, most of the male professional baseball players have been shipped overseas. Rather than shut Major League Baseball down, the owners get together and decide to create a women's league, so as to keep the sport in the public eye.

The movie follows the trials and tribulations of the Peaches' first season together, which ends with the team's appearance in the inaugural AAGPBL World Series.

The line is delivered after Dugan, played by Tom Hanks, loudly reprimands one of his players for making a mental error in the field, which in turn causes the young lady to start bawling.
10. In which biographical film would you hear these classic lines? "People all say that I've had a bad break. But today...today, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the Earth."

Answer: The Pride of the Yankees

"The Pride of the Yankees" stars Gary Cooper as legendary Yankee first baseman Lou Gehrig, a gifted baseball player whose life was cut short by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gherig's disease. The film follows Gehrig from his days as a star player for the Columbia University baseball team, his eventual signing by the Yankees, and finally his losing battle against the deadly disease.

The film, which was released in July of 1942, also featured a few of Gherig's former teammates including, Babe Ruth, Bill Dickey and Bob Meusel portraying themselves.

The quote comes from a farewell speech delivered by Gehrig to an adoring Yankee Stadium crowd.
