Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Steve McCroskey: "Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue." What movie is this from?

Answer: Airplane!

"Airplane!" is a comedy spoof based on airline disasters. The passengers in the plane are infected with a strange virus. Ted Striker (Hays) is their only hope in landing the plane safely, but he hasn't flown a plane since his accident in the war. We see how it is soley up to Striker to save the passengers when his copilot is really a basketball player, and his flight director, McCroskey, has a substance abuse problem. (As we can tell by the above quote he made to himself, he likes to sniff glue.)

Released in 1980, "Airplane!" starred Lloyd Bridges, Robert Hays, Leslie Nielsen and Peter Graves. It was directed by Jim Abrahams and David Zucker.
2. "I have, and if you had the sense of a billy goat, you'd clean your house up 'stead of bummin' 'round ours." is a quote from which movie?

Answer: The Outsiders

Ponyboy Curtis tells this to his buddy Keith 'Two-Bit' Mathews in reply to Two-Bit's previous statement, "Shoot, this house ain't dirty. You ought to see my house." The Greasers (the tough poor kids) and the Socs (the angry rich kids) are from two different sides of town. Ponyboy (Howell) and Johnny Cade (Macchio) are in the wrong place at the wrong time, when a group of Socs spot them alone in the park. Johnny kills Bob (the leader) in self defense, but the boys are afraid of going to jail and getting split up. With help from their friend Dally, (Dillon) the boys hide out in an abandoned church. When the church catches on fire and small children are inside, the two boys show us what being true heros means.

"The Outsiders" was released in 1983, and starred Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, C. Thomas Howell and Emilio Estevez. It was directed by Francis Ford Coppola. This movie was based on a novel of the same title written by S.E. Hinton when she was only 16 years old.
3. Mr. Ryan: "It seems to me the only thing you've learned is that Caesar is 'a salad dressing dude'."

Answer: Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure

Bill and Ted are dangerously close to failing their history class. Their teacher, Mr. Ryan shows us just how close when he reads this from one of the boy's tests. The boys eventually meet Rufus, who gives them a chance to go back in time, with a time machine made out of a phone booth. They meet many interesting people from the past, including Napolean, Billy the Kid, and Abraham Lincoln-and even bring some of them back to Pasedena to aid in their report!

"Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" was released in 1989, and starred Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter, and George Carlin. It was directed by Stephen Herek.
4. Jareth: "Everything I've done, I've done for you. I move the stars for no one." Which 80's movie is this quote from?

Answer: Labyrinth

David Bowie is Jareth: the Goblin King. This quote is made to persuade Sarah to forget her baby brother, Toby, and stay with him forever in a world "where everything seems possible and nothing is what it seems." Sarah must find her way through the magical maze in the time allowed, aided by Hoggle and Ludo, to reunite with her baby brother. Between traps, fantasy creatures, and talking doors, Sarah has a very hard time reaching the center of the labyrinth. When she does, she must chose between being a queen or taking her little brother back from the Goblin King.

"Labyrinth" was released in 1986, and starred David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. It was directed by Jim Henson.
5. "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it." Which movie is this quote from?

Answer: Ferris Bueller's Day Off

The quote, probably the most famous quote of the entire movie, is made by Matthew Broderick (Ferris), who is also the narrator. Ferris must figure out ways he can keep from getting caught skipping school. He justifies this idea by making the above quote to the audience. This makes us sympathize with Ferris. He has a few tricks up his sleeves though, and he is aided by his friend Cameron,(Ruck) and his girlfriend, Sloane,(Sara). The trio gets into a lot of sticky situations, including stealing Cameron's father's car, almost being spotted by Ferris' father, and getting kicked out of a restaurant. Although Ferris and his sister Jeanie (Grey) seem to hate one another, she helps Ferris in the end.

"Ferris Bueller's Day Off" was released in 1986, and starred Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, Jennifer Grey and Mia Sara. It was directed by John Hughes.
6. Mouth: "First you gotta do the Truffle Shuffle." Which 80's adventure movie is this from?

Answer: The Goonies

Mouth (Feldman) tells this to Chunk before he is allowed to enter Mikey's (Astin's) house. The Truffle Shuffle is Chunk's embarassing dance. The children try to think of a way to save their homes from high mortgage interest rates on their properties. The kids find a map in their attic, marking the supposed location of a famous pirate's treasure. The kids end up at an abandoned restaurant, which also happens to be the hideout of the convicted Fratelli family. After finding their way through the dark basement, they find a series of tunnels equipped with booby traps set by the pirate, One-Eyed Willie to keep his beloved treasure safe.

"The Goonies" was released in 1985, and starred Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, and Jeff Cohen.
It was directed by Richard Donner.
7. H.I.: "We figured there was too much happiness here for just the two of us, so we figured the next logical step was to have us a critter." Which 80's comedy was this quote from?

Answer: Raising Arizona

HI (Cage), a wacky criminal arrested for robbing convenience stores, falls in love with Edwina McDonnough, the cop who takes his picture after each arrest. She finally accepts his proposal and the two get married. HI also serves as the narrator in most of the film. This quote is made at the beginning of the movie before the couple realize they cannot have children. The couple cannot adopt a child either, because of HI's prison record. The next logical step, in the couple's eyes, is to kidnap one of the quintuplets of a big time funiture salesman. Between HI's convict friends, (Goodman and Forsythe), HI's boss's family and the Lone Biker, the couple have a very complicated time in holding on to "their" baby. Everyone wants a piece of the reward.

"Raising Arizona" was released in 1987, and starred Nicolas Cage, John Goodman and Holly Hunter. It was directed by Joel Coen.
8. Colonel Sandurz: "No sir. I didn't see you playing with your dolls again." Which 80's spoof movie is this quote from?

Answer: Spaceballs

The colonel has caught Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) playing with his Princess Vespa doll behind closed doors, and embarrasses him with this quote. This famous movie spoofs the "Star Wars" movies. The Princess was kidnapped by Dark Helmet and must be rescued by Lone Starr (Pullman) and his pal Barf (Candy). After the Princess is rescued, the team now has to deal with President Skroob's evil plan to suck all of the air from her home planet of Druidia. Lone Starr must use the "Swartz" that Master Yogurt has taught him.

"Spaceballs" was released in 1987, and starred Bill Pullman, John Candy, Rick Moranis and Mel Brooks. It was directed by Mel Brooks.
9. Ren: "Hey, I like that hat, man. They sell men's clothes where you got that?" Which movie is this quote from?

Answer: Footloose

This is one of the first things Ren (Bacon) says to Willard (Penn) after Willard calls him out on bumping into him in the hallway, on Ren's first day at school. After becoming friends, Ren, Willard and Ariel (Singer) try to change their town's strict laws on dancing. Ren can not understand why dancing is such a problem until he learns of the fatal accident of Ariel's older brother, involving alcohol and music.

"Footloose" was released in 1984, and starred Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer. It was directed by Herbert Ross.
10. Sam Emerson: "Death by stereo!" Which 80's movie is this quote from?

Answer: The Lost Boys

Mike (Patric) and his younger brother Sam (Haim) are forced to move with their mother to their Grandpa's home in California. Mike is drawn into a biker gang by a young woman, while Sam befriends two kids claiming to be vampire hunters. That turns out to be a good thing, because the boys soon find out vampires are real when Mike starts exhibiting very strange behaviors. They must find and kill the head vampire to turn Mike back into a mortal. "Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire."

"The Lost Boys" was released in 1987, and starred Jason Patric, Corey Haim, Kiefer Sutherland, Alex Winter, and Dianne Wiest. It was directed by Joel Schumacher.
