The 2000 film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" is based on a Chinese novel of the same name, part of Wang Dulu's "Crane-Iron Series" and is set in 19th century China where two master warriors have to deal with the theft of a fabled sword. There is much skilled fighting, including an aerial encounter in a bamboo forest.

There are also a couple of love stories and a jealous woman involved. The film won four Oscars from ten nominations.

Johnny Depp portrays Edward Scissorhands in the 1990 gothic fantasy romance of the same name. Scissorhands is an unfinished artificial humanoid who is adopted by a suburban family. His inventor dies before finishing him so he has scissor blades in place of fingers. He soon falls for the family's teenage daughter, which results in issues with her boyfriend.

John Travolta portrays hitman Vincent Vega who, along with Jules Winnfield (Samuel L Jackson), works for the crime boss Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames) in the 1994 film "Pulp Fiction". The dance scene comes after Vega is tasked by his boss to take his wife Mia (Uma Thurman) to dinner while he is out of town.

The film shows three out-of-sync interwoven stories. The film helped revive Travolta's career.

Director of the 1997 disaster movie "Titanic", James Cameron originally did not want songs in the movie: however the end theme song "My Heart Will Go On" sung by Céline Dion got his approval. It is tied with the shipboard romance between the characters Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet). The soundtrack album sold over 30 million copies. The film itself is based on the fateful maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic passenger liner in 1912.

Wormhole travel is used in the 2014 sci-fi film "Interstellar" to send a team on a search mission for a new home for Earth's population. Communicating the search results proves to be tricky. The idea for the film attracted Steven Spielberg as director with Jonathan Nolan hired as scriptwriter. Spielberg moved his production studio from Paramount Pictures to a competitor and Jonathan Nolan recommended his brother as a replacement. Efforts were made to keep the science involved reasonably realistic.

Another Christopher Nolan-directed film, the 2023 biographical thriller "Oppenheimer" is based on the 2005 biography "American Prometheus" by Kai Bird and Martin J Sherwin about the life of J Robert Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer is possibly best known for his involvement in the Manhattan Project during World War II which developed the first nuclear weapons.

He later was subject to a hearing about loyalty during the McCarthy era when his past connections with the Communist Party USA were used against him.

Answer: Nightcrawler

The freelance photojournalist Louis "Lou" Bloom is portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal and the 2014 film is the neo-noir psychological thriller "Nightcrawler". It was directed by Dan Gilroy in his directorial debut and perhaps speaks to the public's apparent hunger for sensationalism and the pressures on the professions involved to satisfy that need. Lou has a background in petty thievery before he makes the move into photojournalism.

He gradually 'improves' the footage he provides to make it more appealing, skating on the wrong side of the law in the process.

The final Christopher Nolan-directed film in this selection, the 2010 sci-fi action movie "Inception" sees Leonardo DiCaprio portray Dom Cobb, a thief who arranges the theft of information from the subconsciousness of his targets. It is a form of corporate espionage.

In a change to the normal extraction job, Cobb is required to plant an idea in the target's subconsciousness. First he must deal with the defences built into the target's mind as well as his own past.
