Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Fig leaves (Genesis 3:7)

Answer: Adam & Eve

The possessions of Adam and Eve are not given in Scripture, however, it is definitely known they had clothes made out of fig leaves.

According to Genesis 3, the couple ate forbidden fruit and their eyes were opened and they became ashamed of their private parts being exposed.

Genesis 3:7 in the NKJV explains things this way: "Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings."
2. Rod (Exodus 4:1-2)

Answer: Moses

A prized possession of Moses was a rod which he used to perform miracles after receiving instructions from God.

The first example of Moses performing a miracle with the rod is reported in Exodus 4:1-4. The passage tells of God instructing Moses to cast his rod on the ground and it miraculously became a snake. When Moses caught the snake by its tail, it was transformed once again into a rod.

Scripture goes on to tell of Moses using the rod to initiate plagues on Egypt as well as parting the Red Sea and drawing water from a rock.
3. A little oil in a jar (1 Kings 17:12)

Answer: Unnamed widow

When it comes to an unnamed widow in Zarephath, she was on the verge of starving to death and had little in the way of possessions.

When Elijah the prophet asked the widow for something to to eat and drink, she told him how desperate things were.

1 Kings 17:12 in the NKJV quotes her as saying: "As the LORD your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die."

Scripture goes on tell of Elijah proclaiming that her flour and oil would not run out as God would provide for her. Sure enough, that is what happened.
4. 5,500 pieces of silver (Judges 16:4-5)

Answer: Delilah

Delilah became extremely wealthy after betraying her lover Samson.

According to Judges 16:5, five Philistine rulers each promised her 1,100 pieces of silver if she could find out the secret to Samson's supernatural strength. In other words, she would've received 5,500 pieces of silver for her betrayal of Samson.

The Website Jessejoyner.com estimates 5,500 pieces of silver would be worth about $15 million in today's world. As Tina Turner sang, 'What's Love Got to Do With It.'
5. Eye makeup (2 Kings 9:30)

Answer: Jezebel

Jezebel, the wicked and evil wife of King Ahab, has become synonymous with eye makeup and the likener. In addition to reporting about the wickedness of Jezebel, Scripture tells of her painting her eyes, as per 2 Kings 9:30. (The KJV says she she "painted her face" while the NIV says she "colored her eyes.")

A few minutes later, Jezebel would suffer a gruesome death after her assistants threw her out of an upper window and she ended up being trampled to death by horses.

According to Scripture, when they sought to bury her, they "found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands." Her body had been devoured by dogs.

For the gruesome details, see 2 Kings 9:30-37.
6. Large number of spotted sheep (Genesis 30:31-32)

Answer: Jacob

Jacob was the owner of a large number of spotted sheep, although the Bible does not give an exact number.

According to Scripture, Jacob and his father-in-law Laban had an agreement when it came to dividing new-born sheep between them with Jacob becoming extremely wealthy.

Scripture tells of Laban getting to keep all the white sheep with Jacob getting to keep the spotted ones.

It's a lo-o-o-o-o-ng story and I won't go into all the details, but in a nutshell Jacob set things up so the ewes would be highly likely to give birth to spotted lambs rather white ones.

(For details about the agreement and how Jacob fixed things in his favour, see Genesis 30.)

The Bible does not provide an exact number of how many spotted sheep Jacob acquired. However, Genesis 30:43 states Jacob became "exceedingly prosperous, and had large flocks, female and male servants, and camels and donkeys."
7. 1,400 chariots, 12,000 horses (1 Kings 10:26)

Answer: Solomon

When it came to possessions, Solomon would have had an extravagant list of items. In fact, Scripture says during his reign there was so much gold in Israel that silver amounted to nothing.

On top of all this, Israel's military might was impressive. According to 1 Kings 10:26, Solomon had 12,000 horses and 1,400 chariots. Although additional information is not provided in Scripture, I suspect the list of Solomon's military arsenal could go on and on.
8. Two talents of silver (2 Kings 5:20-23)

Answer: Gehazi

Gehazi, the understudy to the prophet Elisha, had, at one time two talents of silver. However, I strongly suspect he wished he never had such wealth.

It's a bit of a long story, but Scripture tells of Elisha miraculously healing Naaman, a Syrian army commander, of leprosy. Naaman was so grateful for being cleansed of the dread disease that he offered to reward Elisha with silver and clothing. However, Elisha declined to accept the reward.

Scripture goes on to tell of Gehazi tracking down Naaman afterwards and deceiving him by stating Elisha was now in need of the reward money and clothing.

So, Naaman gave Gehazi two talents of silver and two changes of clothing, thinking the payment was going to Elisha. However, Gehazi kept the proceeds for himself.

Elisha became aware Gehazi had acquired the items from Naaman and punished Gehazi for his greed and dishonesty. Scripture goes on to tell of Gehazi being afflicted with leprosy.

Different Websites have a varying estimations about how much two talents of silver would be worth in today's dollars. The estimates range from $40,000 US to $175,000 US.
9. Books (2 Timothy 4:13)

Answer: Paul

The correct answer is Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles.

In 2 Timothy 4:13, Paul makes a request of Timothy, his young understudy.

The verse in the NKJV reads this way: "Bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas when you come -- and the books, especially the parchments."

It is believed Paul was executed shortly after writing 2 Timothy.
10. Crown of thorns (John 19:2)

Answer: Jesus

When it comes to possessions, Christ was at the bottom of the totem pole. For example, in Matthew 8:20 and Luke 9:58 in the NKJV, Jesus is quoted as saying, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head."

At the time of His death, it appears the only thing He 'owned' was the cruel crown of thorns that had been crudely and painfully put on His head by Roman soldiers.

The very clothes He had been wearing just prior to His crucifixion had been stripped from His body, divided and awarded to others.

Christians believe the awarding of Christ's cloths to others, as well as the casting of lots for the items, was fulfilment of Old Testament prophecy in Psalm 22:8. That verse in the NKJV states: "They divide My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots."
