Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Tunic of many colors (Genesis 37:31)

Answer: Joseph

Joseph was the clear favourite of his father Jacob and this resulted in intense family jealousy. Scripture tells of Jacob gifting Joseph with a tunic of many colors and his eleven brothers ending up seeing red.

Scripture goes on to tell of Joseph's brothers selling him into slavery and the young man being tossed into prison in Egypt under false charges. Miraculously, Joseph would ascend to become the second most powerful man in the country and play a key role in helping his father and his brothers survive through a terrible famine.
2. Harp (1 Sam. 16:23)

Answer: David

In addition to being a fearless warrior, David was a talented musician. In fact, Scripture tells of King Saul being afflicted with a 'distressing spirit' and David playing a harp for him.

1 Samuel 16:23 explains things this way in the NKJV: "And so it was, whenever the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David would take a harp and play it with his hand. Then Saul would become refreshed and well, and the distressing spirit would depart from him."

It is possible young David at this point in time did not own a harp and the one he played on was actually owned by Saul. However, there can be no debate that when David became king he did indeed own a harp as well as a plethora of other items.
3. Vineyard (1 Kings 21:1)

Answer: Naboth

Naboth was the owner of a vineyard that was close to the palace of King Ahab. According to Scripture, Ahab greatly desired to own the tract of land but Naboth declined to sell.

So Jezebel, Ahab's evil wife, swung into action and set up a chain of events that would lead to Naboth's death. With Naboth out of the way, Ahab was able to assume ownership of the vineyard.

For the sordid details, see 1 Kings 21:1-15.
4. Gold goblets (Daniel 5:1-2)

Answer: Belshazzar

Belshazzar, king of Babylon, would have owned a gigantic list of items, but there is one thing he claimed ownership over that led to his demise.

Scripture tells of Belshazzar hosting a gala feast with the people drinking from gold goblets stolen from the temple in Jerusalem.

It was the beginning of the end for the king as Scripture tells of a disembodied hand writing a cryptic message on the banquet hall's wall that no one was able to interpret with the exception of Daniel.

Upon seeing the message, Daniel proclaimed the king's reign was about to come to a screeching halt. Sure enough, later that night Belshazzar was killed and Darius the Mede assumed control of the kingdom.

See the fifth chapter of Daniel for details.
5. Ivory throne overlaid with gold (2 Chron. 9:17)

Answer: Solomon

Solomon, the son of David, served as king of Israel during its golden age.

Scripture tells of the king accumulating massive wealth and silver being so common it was accounted as nothing during his reign.

2 Chronicles 9:17-19 gives details about Solomon's throne: "Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with pure gold. The throne had six steps, with a footstool of gold, which were fastened to the throne; there were armrests on either side of the place of the seat, and two lions stood beside the armrests. Twelve lions stood there, one on each side of the six steps; nothing like this had been made for any other kingdom."
6. Scarlet cord (Joshua 2:1, 18)

Answer: Rahab

When it comes to Rahab's personal belongings, little in the way of details are given in Scripture. However, it is definitely known she possessed a scarlet cord.

Scripture tells of Rahab, a prostitute in Jericho, leaving a scarlet cord in her window as a visible sign of protection when the Israelites invaded her city.

Rahab received the vow of protection after she hid two Israelite spies in her house while they were on a mission to scout out the city before Joshua and his army invaded Jericho.

For details see the second chapter of Joshua.
7. Two mites (Luke 21:2)

Answer: Unnamed widow

The unnamed widow put two mites, or two very small copper coins, into the treasury of the synagogue and while she was depositing her two mites, the rich were making large contributions.

Jesus said the widow was to be praised.

Luke 21:1-4 explains things this way in the NKJV: "And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, 'Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.'"
8. Five loaves, two small fish (John 6:9)

Answer: Unnamed boy

No name is given for the boy who contributed five loaves and two small fish to Jesus, as per John 6:9. It might have been a pittance of food, but according to Scripture, Jesus was miraculously able to feed five thousand men.

The figure of the number of people fed does not include women and children so many theologians believe Christ fed as many as fifteen thousand people with the five loaves and two small fish. On top of all this, Scripture tells of the disciples filling twelve large baskets with fragments of food that had not been consumed.
9. Cloak (2 Timothy 4:13)

Answer: Paul

In 2 Timothy 4:13, Paul issues a plea to Timothy to bring to him some belongings he had left behind in Troas.

The verse in the NKJV states, "Bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas when you come -- and the books, especially the parchments."

Paul was incarcerated in Rome at the time and Troas was in present day Turkey.
10. Purple cloth (Acts 16:14)

Answer: Lydia

Lydia was a seller of purple cloth who Paul converted to Christianity at Philippi, a city in ancient Greece. Going strictly by Scripture, Lydia was the first believer in a resurrected Jesus Christ in Europe.

While Lydia is regarded as the first Christian in Europe, it should be pointed out she was a native of Thyatira, a city in present day Turkey.
