Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where was this match played?

Answer: Colombo

The match was played at the P.Sara Oval, Colombo. Sri Lanka has stadia at Galle and Kandy also. The cricket stadium in Hambantota is a newly constructed one, and will be used first in the 2011 cricket World Cup.
2. Who was the only centurion for Sri Lanka in this match?

Answer: Thilan Samaraweera

He had scored a well enough 137 off 370 balls and remained not out in the innings. Dilshan made 75 while Jayawardene made 56.
3. Which bowler of the Indian side had bowled 3 wides in Sri Lanka's first innings?

Answer: Abhimanyu Mithun

He was not only the bowler of 3 wides in the innings but also the most expensive bowler by an economy rate of 3.54. He had no wickets to his name in the Lankan first innings.

Sri Lanka were able to afford 425 runs after a good play from Dilshan, Jayawardene and Samaraweera.
4. In the Indian batting, who was the only batsman in the first innings to have a strike rate of 100+?

Answer: Virender Sehwag

He was also the only centurion in the innings. He made 109 off 105 balls. The credit of India's steady start goes to him. He had 19 fours in his innings.

VVS Laxman did score a century, but in the second innings.
5. In the Indian first innings, who was the Sri Lankan bowler to bowl 2 no balls and a wide?

Answer: Welegedara

Welegedara was also the most expensive main bowler with an economy rate of 5.86(it was supposed to be Dilshan at 7.50 but he bowled just 2 overs). Suraj Randiv bowled well with his 4-88, and restricted India only to make a score which was just 11 runs ahead of the Lankan score. India scored 436 runs.
6. In Sri Lanka's second innings, which bowler had hit 78 runs off 157 balls?

Answer: Ajantha Mendis

Angelo Mathews was an all rounder and not an only bowler. Mendis scored 78 off 157 balls which included 10 fours and a six and this innings, was highly appreciable as he did this under the pressure that the whole line up failed to score. Mendis and Samaraweera were able to put up a good partnership to keep Sri Lanka in the game.

The Lankans scored 267, and a target of 257 runs was in front of India to level the series 1-1.
7. India's second innings, the target was 257 runs. Who was the centurion in this innings?

Answer: VVS Laxman

Laxman scored 109 off 149 balls which later turned out to be a match-winning century. Sachin scored 54 runs and Raina made a quick 41 off 75 balls, to finish this match and level the series 1-1.
8. How many bowlers, combined of both teams in the second innings, were not able to take a single wicket?

Answer: 6

It was 6 bowlers in the sense that Angelo Mathews bowled 2 overs and Dilshan bowled 3 overs, but didn't get any wickets.

4 bowlers would also be accepted as the rest of the bowlers except these two, who didn't get any wickets, were all regular bowlers, whereas these two were part time bowlers.
9. Who was the Man of the Match?

Answer: VVS Laxman

Laxman's mammoth 109 not out was the cause of him winning the man of the match. Some contenders could have been Sehwag's 100, Suraj Randiv's 9 wickets in the match, or some excellent play by Thilan Samaraweera.
10. Who was the Man of the Series?

Answer: Virender Sehwag

His amazing play throughout the tournament caused him to win the Man of the Series. He truly deserved it.
