Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the opening scenes, we saw several glimpses into the characters' lives. Commander Adama and his son, Lee, were boxing, Kara Thrace accidentally called out Lee's name while she was with Dr. Baltar, and the Sharon aboard Galactica struggled with thoughts of suicide. On Caprica, following the fact that Helo just found out Sharon was a Cylon, what did we see take place?

Answer: Helo encountered Sharon and shot her in the shoulder.

It was apparent that the opening was meant to give us an idea of what pressures the characters of the show were going through. Everyone had challenges thrown at them, and how they dealt with them came to be the episode's main premise.
2. Another game of cards and this time Gaius Baltar was in quite a drunken state. When Kara Thrace walked in, he gave her a look, a couple crude comments, and suggested that she might want to sit next to which person?

Answer: Lee Adama

The good doctor, in no good mood, was out to make Starbuck look the fool. However, Kara politely declined the offer to play cards and walked away. The tension created in the room made everyone else wonder what exactly had happened between the two.
3. Adding more stress to his already overloaded brain, Baltar tried to keep two separate conversations going at the same time while he was on Colonial One. One conversation was with Laura Roslin about policy (since he was the new vice president). The other was with the Six in his head over their relationship. Before walking out, what did Baltar say to Roslin that was also meant for the Six in his head?

Answer: "You're right. We need a break."

It seemed that the lovely Six was jealous and upset over Gaius' new relationship with Kara Thrace. When Roslin spoke to him about taking a break, he realized that that was exactly what he needed. He wanted to take a break from policy talk and from Six.
4. Boomer and Crashdown were sent out on a mission to find supplies in their little Raptor. After nearly jumping into a planet's atmosphere, what did they discover about it?

Answer: It was habitable.

The two had indeed found Kobol, the birthplace of humanity. Crashdown believed that it would be the answer to all their problems, that they could live on the planet. When he asked if it was Earth, Sharon said, "No, it's not Earth. It's more important than that."
5. While looking at the topography of the planet they had found, Laura Roslin had a vision. What did she see?

Answer: a forum and opera house

The forum and opera house were two of the main features of the City of the Gods on Kobol. Laura Roslin saw the inhabited city and was confused when she later returned to the picture and it was only ruins. Elosha showed her a sketch of what they thought the city might have looked like to a astounded Roslin.
6. Dr. Baltar, in a moment of sheer brilliance, found a way to rid himself of a problem. Boomer, who he knew was a Cylon, was questioning herself; she believed that she might hurt someone. "Listen to your heart," Baltar said, "embrace that which you know to be the right decision." Did Boomer end up going through with the suicide attempt?

Answer: Yes

"Life can be a curse as well as a blessing. You will believe me when I tell you there are far worse things than death in this world....Listen to your heart. Embrace that which you know to be the right decision."

Although she didn't end up killing herself, Boomer went through with the attempt. She shot herself in the cheek; perhaps deep down psychologically she could not kill herself. Baltar walked away from the scene, morose, confident that he had rid himself of another of his problems.
7. President Roslin wanted to use the captured Raider to jump to Caprica and retrieve what artifact that would unlock the Tomb of Athena?

Answer: The Arrow of Apollo

Commander Adama adamantly refused to allow her to use the Raider as it was a military asset. He didn't believe in the story of Earth and the mythology behind the Colonial religion. Although he did believe the planet was Kobol, that seemed to be the extent of the religion that he would acknowledge.
8. The Raptors going to Kobol ran in to what problem upon jumping to the planet?

Answer: They encountered Cylons.

One Raptor was destroyed off the bat, one Raptor was shot down and was forced to make an emergency landing on Kobol, and the last Raptor jumped back to Galactica and informed them that the Cylons now hovered over their priceless planet.
9. Roslin, wanting the Raider for herself, was going to try and steal it from beneath Adama's nose. Billy tried to be the voice of conscience, but Roslin only deflected his concerns. She then asked for him to fetch which person so she could convince them to use the Raider to her design?

Answer: Kara Thrace

Roslin asked Billy to find Kara Thrace. She told the pilot about her cancer and of the prophecies that were coming true. Kara, who believed in the gods, wasn't convinced though. She knew that Commander Adama would help them find Earth.
10. After her conversation with Commander Adama, Starbuck knew that he didn't know where Earth was. She felt betrayed. While on the Raider autopilot test, what did she do?

Answer: She jumped it to Caprica.

As Starbuck knew the commander had no idea where Earth was, she felt, much like the president, that opening the Tomb of Athena was their best hope of finding the planet. She fired up the FTL drive and jumped. When Colonel Tigh asked where she was going, Adama replied, "Home."
