Steve Buscemi Trivia Questions

1. Steve Buscemi was born in Brooklyn on December 13, 1957. What was his name at birth?

From Quiz
Steve Buscemi

Answer: Steven Vincent Buscemi

His father was Italian and worked as a garbage man and his mother of Irish descent acted as a hostess in a restaurant. Steve has three brothers. He attended Valley Stream High School with actress Patricia Charbonneau where he participated in the drama troupe and wrestled on the varsity. Later he attended Nassau Community College. Later Buscemi would write and direct "Tree's Lounge" (1996), a homage to his neighborhood in Valley Stream and his childhood.

2. After Nassau Community College, what prestigious acting school did he enter?

From Quiz Steve Buscemi

Answer: Lee Strasberg Institute

The Strasberg School has great appeal as it is the flagship for the "Method" school of acting that requires fledgling actors to go beyond the script and stereotypes and create a new and unique character. James Dean, Al Pacino, and Robert DeNiro studied there, to name a few.

3. His first big break came in a film called "Parting Glances" (1986). Director Bill Sherwood cast him as a rock star named Nick in that film. The character Nick had a pretty devastating and ultimately fatal problem. What was it?

From Quiz Steve Buscemi: Dead or Alive

Answer: AIDS

At the time AIDS was not a topic the entertainment industry addressed much, it was still mostly a scary and mysterious area. "Parting Glances" was one of the first features to address it compassionately. It was very low-key, made on a low budget, but critics agreed that it was exceptionally well-crafted and superbly acted. One of the then unknowns in it was Kathy Kinney who later shot to fame as the clownish Mimi in "The Drew Carey Show" (1995) on television.

4. On the dreadful day of September 11, 2001, what did Steve Buscemi do?

From Quiz Steve Buscemi

Answer: Joined fire fighters in labor and seeking of victims

In his youth Steve spent four years as a fire fighter for NYFD. The day after 9/11 he returned to his old fire house and worked twelve hour shifts along side his former mates. He refused all interviews and would not allow himself to be photographed.

5. Buscemi got more popular exposure in 1986, that time on a hot TV series. He played a serial killer in several episodes of which series?

From Quiz Steve Buscemi: Dead or Alive

Answer: LA Law

"LA Law" (1991). He was on "Miami Vice" once (before '86) and also on "Homicide" (after 1986). In all of them the pattern was becoming set. Serial killers, tragic victims, sociopaths - yes, folks, Buscemi was on his way to the halls of the sympathetic (sometimes) anti-hero.

6. Buscemi first movie was "Parting Glances" (1986). Was was his role?

From Quiz Steve Buscemi

Answer: Nick, a young man with aids

Some film buffs consider this film to be the most accurate portrayal of the gay sub-culture, as it avoids the cliches of such films as "Philadelphia"(1993) and "In and Out" (1997). This is Bill Sherwood's first and only film as he died of Aids in 1990. The role established Buscemi as an actor who could handle quirky supporting roles.

7. In cult classic "Reservoir Dogs", each man in the gang is given a code name to protect their true identity. What was the name that Buscemi's character objected to?

From Quiz Steve Buscemi

Answer: Mr. Pink

The classic breakfast scene in "Reservoir Dogs" is one of the most memorable. Steve wonders why he is Mr. Pink when the rest are Mr. Green, Mr. Blue, etc.

8. In one notable exception to his overall rule, Steve Buscemi portrayed a normal, serious and pivotal person in 2000. The movie was "28 Days" and was not only mainstream but starred the popular Sandra Bullock. What did Steve play in that one?

From Quiz Steve Buscemi: Dead or Alive

Answer: A sturdy and responsible rehab counselor

Never judge a book by its cover! Sure, he looks like a drug addict but in this film he did very well and was actually believable as a non-quirky and law abiding citizen! The movie was about a woman (Bullock) with a raging drinking problem which landed her in rehab, which she decided was much more palatable than the other option: prison. Naturally, Sandra made the "happy ending/cute" decision.

9. As a character actor, Buscemi has played a 'second banana" in six of one actor's films. Who is this actor?

From Quiz Steve Buscemi

Answer: Adam Sandler

Those films are "Airheads" (1994), "Billy Madison" (1995), "Wedding Singer" (1998), "Big Daddy" (1999), "Mr. Deeds" (2002), and "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" (2007).

10. Buscemi hit the small screen again in 2004 and did it in a big way and in one of the biggest critical and popular hits of the New Milennium. His character was named Tony Blundetto. Which show was this?

From Quiz Steve Buscemi: Dead or Alive

Answer: The Sopranos

His turn as a recently paroled Mafioso earned him a Screen Actors Guild nomination, too. Blundetto, yet another fidgety one, was really (emphasis on 'really') trying hard to go straight on "The Sopranos".
