Cheyenne is the capital of Wyoming and the county seat of Laramie County. It is located in the south-eastern corner of the state. John A. Campbell was the first governor of Wyoming Territory and he was sworn in around April 1869. Two days later the Wyoming Territory was established and Cheyenne was chosen as its capital. Construction of the Wyoming State Capitol building also commenced in 1869 in Cheyenne, but it would be around 20 years later that Wyoming would become a state.
