Michael Scott Trivia Questions

1. When the book begins, how many elemental magics has Josh been trained in?

From Quiz
Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel: Book 3

Answer: None

Josh, having only been Awakened by Mars Ultor in the previous book, has not been trained in any element. Hekate Awakened Sophie (the older twin) in the first book, but was distracted from Awakening Josh by Dee's forces burning Yggdrasil (the World Tree, where she lived). Hekate rushed out to defend Yggdrasil, and was destroyed along with the tree in the battle that followed. Sophie has been trained in Air (by the Witch of Endor) and Fire (by Saint-Germain).

2. What are the names of the main characters in the series, also known as the "twins of legend"?

From Quiz The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel

Answer: Josh and Sophie Newman

Fifteen year old twins Josh and Sophie Newman learn at the beginning of "The Alchemyst" that they are the legendary "gold and silver". To their surprise, they find they possess extraordinary magical powers and that their destiny is to save (or destroy) the world.

3. What is another name for Old Spider?

From Quiz Secrets of "The Immortal Nicholas Flamel" Series

4. Whose magic smelled like rotten eggs?

From Quiz "The Alchemyst" by Michael Scott

Dee's magic smells like brimstone (or rotten eggs to Sophie and Josh). Nicholas' magic smelled like peppermint. Josh's smelled like oranges, and Hekate's smelled like pomegranates.

5. Where is Perenelle when the book begins?

From Quiz Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel: Book 3

Answer: Alcatraz

In "The Alchemyst", when Perenelle was first kidnapped by Dee, she was locked up under Dee's business, Enoch Enterprises. She was then moved to Alcatraz, where the Egyptian Sphinx guarded her, preventing her from using her power to escape. In the "The Magician", Juan de Ayala, a friendly ghost, distracted the sphinx by banging doors, causing the creature to go investigate. Perenelle escaped her cell, but couldn't leave the island. She's still there at the beginning of the book.

6. In what city does "The Alchemyst" begin?

From Quiz The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel

Answer: San Francisco, California USA

The twins live in San Francisco but travel to both Paris and London during their attempt to avoid capture by the servants of the Dark Elders. Danu Talis (known in the modern world as Atlantis) was home to the Elders until it was destroyed during an ancient battle. The Dark Elders wish to restore Danu Talis and rule the world.

7. Who was a famous bard, and used to be an apprentice of Dr. John Dee?

From Quiz Secrets of "The Immortal Nicholas Flamel" Series

Answer: William Shakespeare

When Will worked with Nicholas, he was extremely unhappy because all he did was do errands. But when he met Dee, he was happy again because he could read, write, and do all worthy jobs. Nicholas hated Will because Will sent musketeers chasing Nicholas and Perenelle and nearly got Perenelle dead. After they meet again, Will explains to Nicholas that it was a mistake and he would like to forgive him so now Nicholas does not hate him anymore.

8. What creatures helped Dee to attack the bookshop, at the beginning of the book?

From Quiz "The Alchemyst" by Michael Scott

Answer: Golems

`Golems are men created of mud and clay, brought to life by a single word of power.' Dee uses polished black stones for the Golems' eyes. Golems work well in the damp but are fairly useless in dry climate.

9. What is the name for the three creatures in green hoods who corner Josh, Sophie, and Nicholas Flamel in an alleyway?

From Quiz Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel: Book 3

Answer: Genii Cucullati

When Josh asks what the green-hooded "teenagers" tailing them are, Sophie explains that they are flesh eaters. This is not, however, their official name. They are also known as the Hooded Ones. The Dark Elders are the ancient immortal gods and goddesses whom Dee and Machiavelli serve. Flamel defeats them by calling in a favor from Iris, the Greek goddess of the rainbow, who knocks out the Genii Cucullati with water from the Greek Underworld River Styx. According to legend, when a person comes in contact with the Styx's water, they will be knocked unconscious for a year and a day.

10. Josh Newman has a summer job working for a man named Nick Fleming. What is Nick Fleming's profession?

From Quiz The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel

Answer: Bookseller

Josh and Sophie are shocked to learn that the unpretentious Nick Fleming is none other than the 14th century French alchemist, Nicholas Flamel. His wife, Perenelle, is a patron of the coffee shop where Sophie works. The Flamels have spent the last 500 years searching for the twins of legend, in hope of saving the world from the Dark Elders and their plans to destroy the human race (humani).

11. Who is one of the greatest warriors of time and is travelling with the twins and Flamel?

From Quiz Secrets of "The Immortal Nicholas Flamel" Series

Answer: Scathach (The Shadow)

Aoife is a mighty warrior too. Alexander the Great is not mentioned. Cu Chulainn was also a mighty warrior but he is already killed. Scathach comes with the twins and Nicholas everywhere they go. She is able to defeat 12 highly trained police officers, and is capable of defeating a whole inhuman army. She was only defeated once in single combat, by Niten.

12. What false names did Nicholas and Perenelle Flamel use at the beginning of the book?

From Quiz "The Alchemyst" by Michael Scott

Answer: Nick and Perry Fleming

This is what the twins knew Nicholas and Perenelle as.

13. When Aerop-Enap and Perenelle captured the Morrigan and defeated her flock, what did Aerop-Enap originally want to do with the Crow Goddess?

From Quiz Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel: Book 3

Answer: Feed her to his spiders

We're told this when Perenelle climbs down the ladder into the lower part of Alcatraz to visit the Crow Goddess. Locking the Morrigan up in Alcatraz would have been a bit pointless, seeing as the Sphinx was hunting the island for Perenelle and probably would have let her out. The Nereids were also serving the Dark Elders, so feeding her to the Nereids likely wouldn't have worked either.

14. Which now unused prison was used to hold Perenelle Flamel captive?

From Quiz Secrets of "The Immortal Nicholas Flamel" Series

Answer: Alcatraz

Alcatraz is also called The Isle of the Pelicans. It was discovered by Juan Manuel de Ayala. It also has a Spanish name. It is unused because the salt air rotted away at the limestone, making it easier to escape. Of course, this was at Alcatraz. Robben Island and Devil's Island are other effective prisons, but they are not mentioned in the series. Azkaban is not in this series, though it is a prison.

15. What Next-Generation Elder gave Perenelle back to Dee when she escaped?

From Quiz "The Alchemyst" by Michael Scott

Answer: The Morrigan

The Morrigan is what the Irish call the Crow Goddess and the Goddess of death and destruction. 'She stood taller than Dee and was dressed from head to foot in black leather. Draped over her shoulders, with its full hood pulled around her face and sweeping to the ground behind her, was a cloak made entirely of raven's feathers.' Hekate and Bastet aren't Next-Generation. And Scathach is the good guy.

16. Who was the father of the Nereids?

From Quiz Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel: Book 3

Answer: Nereus

Nereus, the Dark Elder also known as the Old Man of the Sea, was the father of the Nereids, who are water nymphs. He attacks Perenelle shortly after she makes an alliance with the Crow Goddess, and she drives him off using a spear with the Archon glyph written on it. The spear was originally a part of the Spell of Binding, which Dee used to imprison Aerop-Enap, a giant spider, on Alcatraz.

17. Which megalithic structure does Flamel take the twins to?

From Quiz Secrets of "The Immortal Nicholas Flamel" Series

Answer: Stonehenge

Stonehenge is probably the most famous megalithic structure. A megalithic structure is an array of tall stones (megaliths) set up into a design. Megaliths can also be tombs of ancient chieftains. Stonehenge is very mysterious because it would take a mighty effort, even by hundreds of strong men to put up even one stone, and back then, all they had was their own strength, no machines. Stonehenge is located in Salisbury, England. The other answers are megaliths, but they are not included in the series.

18. Who saves Nicholas, Scatty and the twins when they're being attacked by crows?

From Quiz "The Alchemyst" by Michael Scott

Answer: Hekate

Hekate made a wind that swept the crows away after Nicholas contacted her.

19. What type of insect does Billy the Kid call to Alcatraz to kill off Aerop-Enap's spiders?

From Quiz Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel: Book 3

Answer: Flies

Billy the Kid is an immortal American working for the Dark Elders, who was sent to help Machiavelli and weaken Aerop-Enap and her spiders. To do this, he summons poisoned flies and sends them to Alcatraz. When Aerop-Enap's spiders bite into the insects, they die from the poison.

20. Just before leaving San Francisco at the end of "The Alchemyst", Sophie learns the Magic of Air. Which character teaches Sophie this elemental magic?

From Quiz The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel

Answer: Scathach's grandmother

Zephaniah, the Witch of Endor, is Scathach's grandmother and the wife of Mars Ultor. She not only teaches Sophie Air Magic, she also transfers all of her memories into Sophie's mind. Perenelle Flamel was kidnapped before Sophie's powers were Awakened and Sara Newman does not appear in person until much later in the series. Elderly Aunt Agnes is the temporary guardian of Josh and Sophie. Her true identity is not revealed until the fifth book.

21. What is the sword of Air?

From Quiz Secrets of "The Immortal Nicholas Flamel" Series

Answer: Durendal

Excalibur is the sword of Ice, Clarent is the sword of Fire, and Joyeuse is the sword of Earth. Joyeuse was also Charlemagne's personal sword. Dee is in possession of all except Clarent. Joyeuse can be used in summoning a fearsome Archon, Coatlicue from her dark prison and creating leygates. Joyeuse is described as "a thing of beauty." When put with the other swords, a gritty brown sand appears on the blade.

22. What is Hekate called?

From Quiz "The Alchemyst" by Michael Scott

Answer: The Goddess with Three Faces

Hekate is called the Goddess with Three Faces because in the morning she is seen as a young girl, in the afternoon a middle-aged woman, and in the evening, an old woman.

23. Who is the husband of Joan of Arc in this series?

From Quiz Secrets of "The Immortal Nicholas Flamel" Series

Answer: The Comte de Saint Germain

He is a famous French figure in history and has composed many different pieces of music. His "talent" is that of annoying people and making everybody hate him, but of course they don't kill him, although they try. Through his own efforts, he made himself immortal by means of a secret recipe; although he says he "forgot" it, I don't believe him. Germain is now a rock star. He is also a Master of Fire. He lives in Paris, France. Nicholas Flamel is already married, I made up John of Arc, and Josh Newman is not married and 16 years old.

24. What is the other name of The World Tree?

From Quiz "The Alchemyst" by Michael Scott

Answer: Yggdrasill

The Yggdrasill, or The World Tree, is as tall as a skyscraper. The most amazing thing about it is that it is Hekate's house, hollow and completely furnished, yet it is still living. Is that possible? In the Shadowrealm it is.

25. What is the name of the magical portals used for instant transportation?

From Quiz The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel

Answer: Leygates

Leygates are portals that are formed where lines of magical energy (leylines) intersect. They permit instant travel, regardless of distance. Notable leygates are located at Stonehenge, in Paris and at the San Francisco shop belonging to the Witch of Endor, but there are many more scattered throughout our world and the other Shadowrealms. (Scatty hates leygates; they make her nauseous.) Floo Powder, Portkeys and the Knight Bus are all magical forms of transportation used in the Harry Potter books.

26. Which Sumerian king taught Sophie and Josh Newman the Magic of Water?

From Quiz Secrets of "The Immortal Nicholas Flamel" Series

Answer: King Gilgamesh

There is a book about him called "The Epic of Gilgamesh." He has the knowledge of all of the Magics, but cannot use them as he does not have an aura. He is the oldest humani, even seeing Abraham work the magic to create the Codex. It is said that Abraham himself gave Gilgamesh the gift of immortality, although it was faulty and gives Gilgamesh a corrupted memory, nearly killing Nicholas because of that. Poseidon is never mentioned, and Nereus and Phobos are dreadful creatures. Right now, King Gilgamesh lives near Stonehenge.

27. Who destroys The World Tree?

From Quiz "The Alchemyst" by Michael Scott

Answer: John Dee

Dr. Dee destroys The World Tree by stabbing it with Excalibur, the ice sword. By killing it he weakened Hekate, thus killing her.

28. Whose boat does Perenelle steal to escape Alcatraz?

From Quiz Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel: Book 3

Answer: Niccolo Machiavelli's

Machiavelli and Billy the Kid are sent to Alcatraz by the Dark Elders to kill Perenelle when Nereus fails. The Crow Goddess, now Perenelle's ally, leads the two on a wild goose chase to the D Block in the prison, giving Perenelle enough time to steal their boat and get off the island. Nereus appears again, attempting to prevent her escape, but Perenelle stabs him again with the spear from the Symbols of Binding, forcing him to retreat. Black Hawk does not appear until the fourth book, "The Necromancer", while Scathach and Joan of Arc are still trapped in a Shadowrealm at this point. Nereus is the Old Man of the Sea, so does not need a boat to reach Alcatraz.

29. What is the Horned God's other name?

From Quiz Secrets of "The Immortal Nicholas Flamel" Series

Answer: Cernunnos

Cerberus is a guardian of the Underworld, and Archirty is a messed up name I made. Cernunnos has no magic, though he is an Archon. He is a fearsome sight, wielding a 6 foot long dinosaur jawbone. He turned ugly when he started experimenting on himself when experimenting on others was banned. Cernunnos attacks Palamedes, Will, Nicholas, Scathach, and the twins.
