This epic followed the trials of Roland Deschain, the last of the gunslingers, as he tried to reach the Dark Tower. The seventh and last of the series, "The Dark Tower," was published in 2004. The "Dark Tower" series drew inspiration from many sources--"Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came," by Robert Browning, the tale of King Arthur and his knights and Clint Eastwood's "man with no name" western character--to name a few.
