Maximum Ride Trivia Questions

1. In chapters 17 and 18, what does Max see in the mirror that frightens her?

From Quiz
"School's Out Forever!" 2 by James Patterson

Answer: An eraser

This is in chapters 17 and 18, when the rest of the Flock are fast asleep. She is so terrified by what she sees because she thinks that she's developed a new skill--one that turns her into her mortal enemy.

2. Which two members of the Flock are the same age as Max, who is fourteen?

From Quiz Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment

Answer: Fang and Iggy

Even though the Flock doesn't have any idea when their actual birthdays are, they have a general idea of how old they are. But the Flock wanted birthdays, so they each chose a day they liked and called it their birthday.

3. Find the Flock member hiding in this sentence: 'If Angel feels frightened, she may turn to this member of the Flock for help.'

From Quiz Maximum Ride: Hidden Friends and Foes

Answer: Fang

'I*f Ang*el feels frightened, she may turn to this member of the Flock for help.' If Max is the 'mother' figure in the Flock, Fang is the 'father' figure. Fang doesn't say much, but he is very passionate about protecting the flock.

4. Who helps the Flock escape 'The School' the first time?

From Quiz Maximum Ride:The Angel Experiment

Answer: Jeb Batchelder

Jeb felt sorry for the Flock, so he took them to a safe place and taught them how to survive.

5. In the beginning of the book, you come across the flock at home. What does Max say that she wished had come during the night, when she looked into the fridge?

From Quiz Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment

Answer: The food fairies

She said this while she was looking for something to make for the flock, that is until Iggy offered to cook. Then she decided to go look after Angel and Nudge.

6. What is the first word that is 'written' by Max (excluding covers etc.)?

From Quiz Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment

The book begins by telling you that by reading it you've taken one giant step closer to surviving 'til your next birthday. Pretty explosive introduction!

7. What version did Fang call the Flying Erasers at the start of the book?

When the flock first saw the Flying Erasers they thought they were flying monkeys! Knowing the School, they could have been!

8. Where is the Itexicon American Headquarters based?

From Quiz Maximum Ride: Saving the World...

Answer: Florida

The prologue is set in the Itexicon American Headquarters. The Director is holding a conference using video uplinks form the Itex Headquarters. Jeb Batchelder and Ronald ter Borcht are present. The Director discusses the "By-Half Plan" and orders Jeb to 'dispose' of the flock.

9. What is the first sentence of Chapter 1 of 'Maximum Ride; the Angel Experiment'?

From Quiz Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment

Answer: The funny thing about facing imminent death is that it really snaps everything else into perspective.

This sentence is repeated later at the start of Chapter 64, back at the School. The rest are from the prologue, 'Maximum Ride; School's out Forever', and another part of 'The Angel Experiment'.

10. What is the name of the top-secret facility that the Flock escaped from?

From Quiz Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment

Answer: The School

Each of the flock members practically grew up in The School, constantly experimented on by the mad scientists that messed with their DNA in the first place. In case you didn't know, Max and her Flock are only 98% human. The other 2% is bird. That's why they have wings and can fly. They also have huge appetites and have super strength and endurance, compared to normal humans anyway.

11. What is the added feature that the Erasers have in this book?

From Quiz "School's Out Forever!" by James Patterson

Answer: Wings

At the end of chapter 4, the Flock is just getting ready to look for somewhere to land for the night when Max notices, "a weird dark cloud headed toward us... 'Fang! What's that? Behind us, at ten o'clock.' He frowned, checking it out. 'Too fast for a storm cloud. Too small, too quiet for choppers. Not birds-too lumpy."' But Max soon realizes what the "thing" flying at them really is: "These Erasers had wings, which was a new and revolting development on the Eraser front. Half-wolf, half-human, and now half-avian? That couldn't be a happy mix. And they were headed our way at about eighty miles an hour."

12. After some of the Flock were recaptured, who stormed the school to get them out?

From Quiz Maximum Ride:The Angel Experiment

Answer: Iggy, The Gasman, and Hawks

While the group was hiding out, they saw some Hawks. The Flock started to mimic the Hawk's flying patterns.

13. What was the flock doing outside their home when the Erasers came?

From Quiz Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment

Answer: Looking for wild strawberries

This is also when the Gasman used his special ability to make Max yell at Iggy (she thought that Iggy was insulting her cooking, really it was the Gasman playing a joke.)

14. How wide were Max's wings?

From Quiz Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment

Answer: 13 feet

Her wings are 13 feet wide, pale tan, with white streaks and some freckly-looking spots.

15. How many free seats are there in the van that the flock are driving at the start of the book? Note: Assume that Total is not on a seat and that nobody is sharing seats.

From Quiz Maximum Ride: Saving the World...

17. Anne's house contains seven of what type of room?

From Quiz "School's Out Forever!" 2 by James Patterson

18. What is the name of the other genetically-altered beings that are after Max and her Flock?

From Quiz Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment

Answer: Erasers

The Erasers, which are part wolf and part human, are the only other successful experiment. Most other experiments die much sooner. For some reason though, Erasers don't always look like hideous half-wolf beings. They can morph their features back and forth between looking like a normal human and looking like a wolf man.

19. Try to find one of the Flock hidden here: 'This Flock member thinks she found her mom in a trailer park in Tipisco, Arizona, but perhaps she should search in Güsseinnud, Germany instead.'

From Quiz Maximum Ride: Hidden Friends and Foes

Answer: Nudge

'This Flock member thinks she found her mom in a trailer park in Tipisco, Arizona, but perhaps she should search in Güssein*nud, Ge*rmany instead.' All members of the Flock wonder about their parents, but Nudge (aka Monique) has a very disappointing close encounter with someone who might be her mom. For the geography buffs playing this, I made up the city of Güsseinnud. :)

20. What animal does Max compare the Erasers too in chapter 6?

From Quiz "School's Out Forever!" by James Patterson

Answer: Cows

The comparison is made after the Voice in her head says at the end of chapter 5: 'Max? Size isn't everything.' "Compared to the Erasers, we were nimble little stinging wasps, and they were clunky, slow, awkward flying cows."

Max and the others go to New York to see what they can learn about their parents.

22. Who did the Erasers take with them to The School?

23. On the 'cool scale' of 1 to 10, what did the Flock's house at the beginning of the book score easily?

From Quiz Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment

Answer: 15

Their house is shaped like the letter E turned on its side with parts overhanging a steep canyon.

24. How much blood are we told is donated by the flock to Fang?

From Quiz Maximum Ride: School's Out Forever

Answer: 3 pints

The flock have red blood cells with nuclei - just like birds. For this reason Max gives Fang 2 pints and Iggy give another 1 pint.

25. Which member of the flock pretends to be a traitor?

From Quiz Maximum Ride: Saving the World...

Answer: Angel

Angel pretends to be a traitor, but it was all part of Max's plan to allow the flock to escape if they were ever captured by Itex/The School/The Institute.

26. What colour paint did Nudge spray over Ari and the Erasers when they fought in Arizona?

From Quiz Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment

Answer: Green

She describes them as looking kind of Christmassy, between the red blood and green paint.

27. What is the name of the horse in chapter 22?

From Quiz "School's Out Forever!" 2 by James Patterson

Answer: Sugar

Anne lets the bird-kids feed him a carrot. A few of the Flock are a bit afraid of the horse, but Anne assures him he's harmless: "big and sweet." Total is the name of the dog who gos wherever the Flock goes.

28. What is the Flock doing when Angel is captured by Erasers?

From Quiz Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment

Answer: Picking strawberries

Max and her Flock all think they are safe, hidden in Colorado, where no one from The School can find them. Imagine their surprise when Erasers drop out of the sky in helicopters, kick the Flock's butts, and kidnap Angel! Apparently The School still wants to do further experiments on them.

29. Find the Flock member: 'If you see this guy in Las Vegas, maneuver around him or just hold your nose!'

From Quiz Maximum Ride: Hidden Friends and Foes

Answer: Gasman

'If you see this guy in Las Ve*gas, man*euver around him or just hold your nose!' Poor Gasman! He has an unfortunate digestive condition that frequently results in some noticeably odoriferous moments!

30. Who commands an Eraser to quit flapping and die?

From Quiz "School's Out Forever!" by James Patterson

Answer: Angel

She's able to read minds, but that is only the first of many things the six-year-old can do. For instance, in 'The Angel Experiment', Angel--the youngest member of the flock--was able to breathe underwater and request others to do her bidding. During their first fight with the flying Erasers in 'School's Out Forever!', Max saves Nudge from being eaten, Iggy drops a bomb on the creature he's fighting, and the Eraser facing Angel just plummets toward the water: "'You're gonna fall now' I heard Angel say in a normal voice. I swung around to see her gravely watching an Eraser who looked confused, paralyzed. Angel shifted her gaze to the dark water below. Fear entered the Eraser's eyes, and his wings folded... 'You're getting scary, you know that?" I said to Angel, not really kidding." Gasman's eight and Angel's brother. His nickname is Gazzy, and in a fight more than capable of holding his own: "I laughed as I saw Gazzy roll completely over like a fighter plane, smacking an Eraser in the jaw on the turn. The Eraser swung a hard punch, landing it on Gazzy's thigh, and Gazzy winced, then swung a side kick at the Eraser's hand, which snapped back."
