RoboCop Trivia Questions

1. "The threat of nuclear confrontation in South Africa escalated today." The world depicted in "RoboCop" is a fractured place. Which South African city has purchased a low-level thermonuclear weapon to serve as its last line of defence?

From Quiz
MediaBreak - We'll Give You the World

Answer: Pretoria

In "RoboCop", Pretoria is named as a "city-state" with a ruling white military government, suggesting that South Africa itself has broken apart into a group of smaller, independent statelets. The city is "besieged" and, as part of its defence, has procured a three megaton low-yield thermonuclear weapon, described as a "neutron bomb", from France. Pretoria is one of the three named capital cities in South Africa, serving as the location of the executive branch of government. Straddling the Apies River in the foothills of the Magaliesberg mountain range, the city was established in 1855 and named for Andries Pretorius, the late father of its founder, Marthinus Pretorius. Upon its foundation, Pretoria was named as the capital of the South African Republic, one of two independent states set up in the mid-19th century by Afrikaans speaking settlers who chose to form their own nation separate from the Cape Colony, which was ruled by the British. Pretoria's metropolitan area has a population of around 3 million, with the city itself, excluding surrounding townships, being one of the few in South Africa to have a white-majority.

2. The Japanese agent ventured into the sewers of Detroit and found a few rebels. They tried to kill him, but he made short work of them. During the attack, the Japanese agent also found a useful item on one of the dead men. What was it?

From Quiz "Robocop 3": Part II

Answer: A map to the rebel headquarters

Otomo entered the sewers and was quickly confronted by four of Bertha's men. They wanted to kill Otomo because he was affiliated with Kanemitsu and OCP. Otomo drove a bayonet into one of the rebels and shot two others. The last rebel smacked him in the face with a lead pipe and revealed that Otomo was a super advanced Japanese Robocop. Otomo broke the rebel's neck and then found a see-through piece of plastic. It had a red line which lead to the rebel base. He put it next to a map and then located the rebels hideout at an abandoned factory.

3. Like "Robocop 2" before it, "Robocop 3" opened with a newscast. The newscast announced that Omni Consumer Products was taken over by a Japanese company, after the failure of the Robocop-2. What was the name of the Japanese company?

From Quiz "Robocop 3": Part I

Answer: Kanemitsu Corporation

The head of the Kanemitsu Corporation was played by Mako. The company wanted to address the major issues of Detroit, including urban resettlement and crime prevention. Little did they know that the methods of the rehabilitation police were questionable at best.

4. The film opened to highlight a rather disturbed police station with a tense environment. A new officer, named Alex J. Murphy, arrived at the station as a transfer from which other Detroit precinct?

From Quiz "Robocop": Part I

Answer: Metro south

After hearing about his transfer location, Sergeant Reed mentioned that Metro south was a nice precinct. Reed quickly broke the pleasantries, however, by saying that in their precinct they get work done. He told Murphy to get to his locker and suit up. When he got to his locker, the other officers called the precinct "Hell". A few minutes later, Sergeant Reed arrived to take a name tag reading Frederickson off of a locker. The implication was that the officer was killed. Reed said that the funeral would be tomorrow and that donations to the family would be accepted.

5. A young girl, named Nikko, was watching the newscast when a man named Paul McDaggett appeared. The questions shifted to his rehab police force, which supposedly evicted people from their homes. Nikko was quickly asked to go to bed. Why was that?

From Quiz "Robocop 3": Part I

Answer: Her family was given an eviction notice by Paul McDaggett.

When she went to her room, the viewers could see that Nikko was a fan of the Robocop. She had a Robocop action figure and an ED-209 model. Her father went into her room and talked to her about how their home was a safe place and how nobody could take it away. In the same instant, a wrecking ball crashed through Nikko's bedroom window. The neighborhood was under attack by Paul McDaggett's rehabilitation officers. Nikko's parents were taken away by the officers, but she escaped. The rehab police had no affiliation with the Detroit Police.

6. Understanding that he was in a state unintended for his normal programming, Robocop decided to remove the new directives. How did Robocop remove them?

From Quiz "Robocop 2": Part II

Answer: He electrocuted himself on the police power grid.

After hearing the possible ways to remove the new directives, Murphy decided to implement the electricity one. After electrocuting himself, all was made perfect. In fact, his system was made more perfect when it deleted not only the new prime directives, but the original four. Robocop inspired all of the striking police officers to go back on duty.

7. Robocop captured Clarence Boddicker and took him to the police station. Sergeant Reed asked Robocop what the charge was. Robocop replied: "He is a ___ killer". What kind of killer did Robocop call him?

From Quiz "Robocop": Part II

Answer: cop

Immediately after Robocop said the charge, everyone turned to look at Clarence. As a response, Clarence spit on Sergeant Reed's report and said that he wanted his phone call. Despite killing dozens of police officers, including Murphy, Boddicker was released from prison very quickly, because of his connections to OCP and Dick Jones.

8. Murphy walked out of the locker room in full gear, waiting to meet his new partner. After seeing a tough police officer subdue a crook, Murphy was partnered with that person. What was the officer's name?

From Quiz "Robocop": Part I

Answer: Anne Lewis

After witnessing the interesting martial arts Anne used to take down the crook, he commented on her skill. She said she was glad to have met Murphy. After being declared partners, she and Murphy went to the garage. Anne said she should drive until Murphy knew his way around. Murphy, however, decided that he should be the one who drives.

9. "Three dead police officers, one critically injured." Crime is rife in the Detroit depicted in the film. Having been seriously injured, Officer Frank Fredrickson is treated at a Detroit hospital named for which automotive pioneer?

From Quiz MediaBreak - We'll Give You the World

Answer: Henry Ford

In "RoboCop", Henry Ford Memorial Hospital is a major hospital in the city, to which Detroit Police officer Frank Fredrickson is taken after being seriously injured in an attack that sees his colleagues Connors, Alcott and Duffy killed by the Boddicker Gang. There is a real Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, which was founded in 1915 through a major donation by Henry Ford. Today it is the centrepiece of Henry Ford Health, a health care organisation serving Detroit's metropolitan region. Henry Ford was born in Springwells Township, a small community in Wayne County, Michigan. At the age of 16, he left home to take a job in Detroit, where he began to gain experience around motor vehicles. During the latter half of the 1880s, he worked repairing, and then building engines, eventually going on to found his own company, the Ford Motor Company, in 1903. In 1908, Ford introduced the Model T, generally regarded as the first car that was affordable to a majority of the purchasing public. The Model T was also the first Ford product to be produced on an assembly line with interchangeable parts, and is seen as the beginning of the concept of "Fordism", which Henry Ford introduced as the idea of relatively high wages for workers mass-producing affordable goods. Ford is also regarded as one of the pioneers of the five-day working week.

10. After Robocop was restored back to 93% efficiency, Nikko went to talk to him. She said that when the fighting ended, she'd be with her parents again. Robocop knew something that the kid didn't need to hear. What was it?

From Quiz "Robocop 3": Part II

Answer: Nikko's parents were dead.

He found the news of their death when he was looking at the police database, earlier that day. He discovered that both of Nikko's parents were killed in escape attempts from the rehabilitation center they were staged at. To re-assure the young girl, he asked her if she missed her parents. Robocop said that as long as she remembered her parents, they were never really gone.

11. "RoboCop! Who is he? What is he? Where does he come from?" Following RoboCop's first night on patrol, he is featured visiting an elementary school named for which famous denizen of Detroit?

From Quiz MediaBreak - We'll Give You the World

Answer: Lee Iacocca

After RoboCop's successful first night patrolling the city, in which he prevents an armed robbery, foils an attempted rape, and ends the hostage crisis at City Hall, he is publicly introduced to the city and the world by OCP with a visit to Lee Iacocca Elementary School in Detroit, an event captured by the cameras of MediaBreak. During the visit, while interacting with the school's children, he is asked for a message for children watching, at which he simply tells them to "stay out of trouble". Lee Iacocca graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in 1945 with a degree in industrial engineering, following that up with a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Princeton in 1946, from where he got a job with the Ford Motor Company. However, although initially employed as an engineer, he quickly asked to be moved to sales and marketing. In 1956, while working as a sales manager in Philadelphia, he devised the "56 for 56" marketing campaign, which quickly went national, and led to his moving through the ranks of the company's management. He was named vice-president of the car and truck division in 1965, executive vice-president in 1967 and finally company president in 1970. However, despite being involved in the design and introduction of a number of notable models, Iacocca clashed with the company chairman, Henry Ford II, and was eventually fired in 1978. However, the same year he was appointed as president and CEO of Ford's rival, Chrysler, with whom he remained until retiring in 1992.

12. Robocop followed a thug's tip to a "Nuke" factory where Kain set up shop. Robocop quickly subdued the factory before he was temporarily caught off-guard by a criminally inclined child. How was he caught off-guard?

From Quiz "Robocop 2": Part I

Answer: Despite his inability to target kids, the kid shot him straight in the face.

When he first noticed that the kid was packing heat, Robocop tried to target him. The problem was that his targeting system did not allow him to target children. The kid said a string of profanities to Robocop before shooting Robocop in the face. The shot disoriented Robocop, sending him into a flashback where the kid who shot him was compared to his kid. Kain managed to escape in the meantime.

13. To get rid of Robocop, Dick Jones sent his ED-209 to destroy him. Unable to fight it, Robocop resorted to running away. He successfully escaped the ED-209 because of a certain problem with it. What was the inexcusable problem with the ED-209?

From Quiz "Robocop": Part II

Answer: The ED-209 could not walk down stairs.

The ED-209 was making Robocop look weak until the chase led to the stairwell. Robocop ran down and looked up to see that the ED-209 was having troubles. 209's legs were built too large, so as soon as it touched the first step, it tumbled down an entire flight of stairs. It fell onto its back and actually began to squeal like a pig. After Robocop escaped the machine, the police turned against Robocop. He was in big trouble until his partner, Anne, rescued him.

14. "More fighting in the Mexican crisis..." The disorder in the world depicted in "RoboCop" is reinforced by news of civil war in Mexico. American forces join nationalist troops in attacking rebels in which Mexican city?

From Quiz MediaBreak - We'll Give You the World

Answer: Acapulco

In "RoboCop", although there are few details given of the ongoing crisis in Mexico, it is indicated to be a civil war scenario that the United States has become involved in, on the side of the Mexican government. Despite this, those on the opposing side are well equipped, as they are described as having significant firepower in the form of missiles, and are capable of putting Acapulco's airport out of action. Acapulco is a major seaport city in the state of Guerrero on Mexico's Pacific coast. The city's location on the deep, semi-circular Acapulco Bay has seen it used as a major port since its foundation in the 16th century. However, in the 1940s the port began to be developed as a major commercial area, with new wharves and warehouses constructed, with major infrastructure improvements that connected it to Mexico City constructed in the 1950s. It was around this time that Acapulco started to also become known as a tourist destination, particularly for Americans, with new hotel resorts, and an expansion of the port to allow cruise ships to stop there. But, starting in the 21st century the city's status has declined as a result of the Mexican Drug War, that has led to Acapulco becoming one of the world's most dangerous cities, with one of the highest murder rates anywhere.

15. One of the rebels, named Koontz, betrayed his friends by telling Paul McDaggett where they were hiding. What was he offered in return for his betrayal?

From Quiz "Robocop 3": Part II

Answer: Money

After burning down the rehabilitation police staging area, Robocop wanted to fulfill Officer Lewis' last wish of killing Paul McDaggett. Robocop walked into the middle of McDaggett's meeting and noticed Koontz. The sight distracted Robocop and gave Paul an opportunity to escape. From Quiz "Robocop 3": Part I

The man went into the restaurant, hoping to score some quick cash. What he got instead was the laser sights of several police officers' guns aimed right at his face. When that occurred, the clerk humorously told the criminal, "What's it like being a rocket scientist?" Murphy's partner, Anne Lewis was also there. She and two other officers answered a dispatch for a breaking and entering. They pursued the battered yellow van until the police cars were subdued in "Splatter Punks" territory. They were in grave danger until Murphy showed up to help them. He quickly got rid of the criminals and saved the lives of three officers.

17. To get away from the hostile forces of the police and OCP, Anne and Murphy drove somewhere out of the way to hide. Where did Anne Lewis hide herself and Robocop?

From Quiz "Robocop": Part II

Anne Lewis, apart from saving Robocop, also brought him some items per request. She brought his gun, baby food, and a power drill. She gathered everything she could from the police station and she commented on how the station was pretty much abandoned due to the impending police strike. Murphy used the power drill to remove his face shield. He showed Lewis how he looked and then gazed into a mirror to view his current appearance. He asked about what happened to his family. Officer Lewis replied that Murphy's family went away and moved on with their lives. Murphy seemed quite saddened at the comment.

18. "That's it buster! No more military aid!" 'Nukem' is a family game where the aim is to bring about sanctions and regime change in other countries. Which company produces it?

From Quiz MediaBreak - We'll Give You the World

Answer: Butler Brothers

"Nukem" is an electronic game intended to simulate the deterioration of world affairs between different countries. In playing the game, participants invade their opponents' countries, impose sanctions and try to influence regime change, until someone decides to launch nuclear weapons. This has the effect of causing a small simulated explosion and holographic mushroom cloud to appear from the top of the game. Butler Brothers was a company engaged in both wholesale supply and retail. Initially founded in 1877 as a mail-order company by brothers Charles, George and Edward Butler, by the 1920s the company had significantly expanded beyond its origins to become a major retailer, with stores under the names Scott, and LC Burr. During the 1930s, Butler Brothers entered the so-called 'five-and-dime' market, launching the Ben Franklin Stores and Federated Stores franchise chains in small towns across the United States. This allowed Butler Brothers to expand its wholesale business, which it used to supply its five-and-dime franchises. The company also expanded into the department store area, building four new department stores in the Los Angeles area. However, in 1960, Butler Brothers was purchased by City Products Corporation.

19. Due to the incompetence of Omni Consumer Products, and its staff, the Japanese owners of OCP decided to send their own agent to help them take over Detroit. What was his name?

From Quiz "Robocop 3": Part I

20. With the police on strike, Clarence and his thugs were free to do as they pleased. As a compliment from Dick Jones, Clarence's entire gang received the 6000 SUX sports car and a weapon called the assault cannon. What made the weapon so special?

From Quiz "Robocop": Part II

Answer: The bullets were explosive, capable of doing extreme damage

To show off the new gun that he received, Clarence fired at one of his henchman's 6000 SUX's. The automobile exploded in an instant, instantly captivating the criminals. Each of the men took turns firing the weapon, testing it out on such things as store fronts and fire hydrants.

21. "It's back. Big is back, because bigger is better." The 6000 SUX is America's brand new four-door executive car, and is described in an advert within the movie with what slogan?

From Quiz MediaBreak - We'll Give You the World

Answer: "An American Tradition"

The 6000 SUX is a four-door executive saloon car with a hatchback rear, that is regarded as a status symbol. For the production of "RoboCop", two complete cars were constructed using the body of the 1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, with new front and rear pieces constructed from fiberglass to make it appear more futuristic - there are rear mounted air intakes and a large, three part exhaust installed within the boot lid. The engine, chassis and interior of the original Oldsmobile were left unchanged. The name, 6000 SUX, was chosen as a dig, specifically at the Pontiac 6000, a mid-sized saloon, as well as other American cars in production when the film was made ("6000 sucks"). The 6000 SUX is first mentioned as the preference of Ron Miller, the former city councilman who takes the city's mayor hostage in an effort to regain his position, where it is described as having reclining leather seats, along with poor fuel economy. This is shown in the subsequent advert, where it is described as "An American Tradition", being able to reach just 8.2 miles per gallon.

22. Paul McDaggett arrived to tell Sergeant Reed that his police force was to fight the remaining rebels. What was Sergeant Reed's response, despite facing several threats?

From Quiz "Robocop 3": Part II

Answer: He refused by quitting the police force and throwing down his badge.

Mr. Johnson went to the police station to talk to Sergeant Reed about gathering fifty men to kill rebels. Sergeant Reed said that his officers did not do that kind of work. Mr. Johnson then threatened Reed about the future of his job, and the amount of money he'd lose if he helped Robocop. As a reaction, Reed threw down his badge and walked out the door. Afterwards, every other police officer threw down their badges and walked out with Reed. To compensate for the loss of manpower, Paul McDaggett and his team hired street hooligans to help them fight the rebels and cops.

23. Noticing the trouble that the Robocop-2 was causing for the city and its police force, Officer Anne Lewis devised a plan to try and eliminate it. What was her plan?

From Quiz "Robocop 2": Part II

Answer: Steal an armored vehicle and ram the Robocop-2

After Anne stole the armored vehicle, she drove it straight into the Robocop-2. She rammed it into the side of the Civic Centrum. After that, it seemed dead. There was no movement for a few seconds until it picked up the armored vehicle and pushed it away.

24. With the unpredictability of Robocop's movements, Clarence was given an item to help him find Robocop. What was he given?

From Quiz "Robocop": Part II

Answer: A tracker

Dick Jones gave Clarence the tracker because he wanted Clarence to kill Robocop. In normal circumstances he wouldn't have been needed but due to the fact that he told Robocop about Dick Jones, Clarence had to repay him. Boddicker agreed to do the task. He gathered his men and of course tracked Robocop to his hiding place at the old steel mill.

25. Robocop returned to the rebel base hours after it was ransacked by Paul McDaggett's men. Upon arriving, he was attacked by the Japanese cyborg. To end their brief battle, what did Robocop do?

From Quiz "Robocop 3": Part II

The Otomo bot was very agile, but it did not have the sufficient intelligence to take down Murphy. He cut off Murphy's fingers from his left hand, then cut off his entire left hand. Low on power and almost dead, Murphy reached for his weapon attachment and grabbed it before Otomo could chop him up. Murphy fired the weapon and blew off Otomo's head, killing him instantly.

26. The Murphy Robocop devised a plan to simply distract the Kain Robocop, so he could defeat it differently. What was the distraction?

From Quiz "Robocop 2": Part II

Answer: Giving it a bottle of "Nuke"

After Anne's armored vehicle stunt, Kain began looking for Murphy. He was about to shoot Murphy when Anne pulled out the bottle of "Nuke" which Murphy told her to use. She gave the bottle to Robocop-2, giving the Murphy Robocop enough time to get behind him and initiate the final showdown.

27. Officer Duffy, a highly corrupted police officer, revealed police routes to a criminal child and his gang. After being paid for his trouble, Officer Duffy was also offered something extra. What was he offered?

From Quiz "Robocop 2": Part I

Answer: A container of "Nuke"

After being given the money, Officer Duffy was offered a box of "Nuke". Duffy did not want the drugs, but the kid managed to persuade him to take it. Robocop beat up the corrupt officer and gathered intel as to the location of Kain.

28. What finally ended the showdown between the rebels and the rehab team?

From Quiz "Robocop 3": Part II

Answer: Robocop and his jet pack

He flew to the scene of the battle where Reed and the rebels were fighting criminals and the rehab team. There, Murphy flew by and shot several enemies before they retreated.

29. Mr. Fleck was fired by Omni Consumer Products for the supposed actions and failures of Robocop. What did Fleck do to highlight his frustration?

From Quiz "Robocop 3": Part I

Answer: He shot himself

OCP was in a bad situation to begin with. Workers were killing themselves left and right, trying to get away from their troubles. Mr. Fleck told Mr. Johnson, a recurring character from all "Robocop" films, that he wouldn't mind eating a bullet. After insulting the Kanemitsu Corporation in front of their agent, Otomo, Fleck was fired. He walked out of the CEO's office and shot himself. Mr. Johnson told the CEO that to get rid of the people, they could hire existing police officers to be placed into the rehab team.
