Timothy Hutton plays Willie, a dysfunctional man who returns to his home town after a long absence, in this film about finding oneself. He finds himself developing a crush on the girl next door, Marty, a 13-year old. Portman is great as the smart and ahead-of-her-age Marty.

7. In what film did a cold Natalie Portman state "And now all of a sudden, it's cold, so cold that everything is freezing over."?

From Quiz Natalie Portman Says What?

Answer: Paris, I Love You (2006)

"Paris, I Love You" is a collection of short love stories. Natalie's character is talking over the phone to her blind boyfriend in the 'True' short. This line comes after she stated that, in the beginning, everything was warm and new, but over the time things have grown cold, a reference to the seasons and relationships.

8. Which actress plays the mother of Natalie Portman's character in Tim Burton's science-fiction/comedy "Mars Attacks!"?

From Quiz Natalie Portman and Her Co-Stars

Answer: Glenn Close

Natalie Portman plays Taffy Dale, the daughter of the President and First Lady of the United States. Jack Nicholson portrays the President. Tim Burton put together a starry cast in this flick, where Martians attack Earth in order to destroy everything.

9. Natalie made her powerful film debut in the 1994 thriller "Léon" (known as "The Professional" in the USA). What character did Natalie play in this film?

From Quiz Natalie Portman

Answer: Mathilda

Originally, Natalie was turned down for the role of Mathilda (a young girl who seeked the help of a professional assassin in getting revenge for her brother, who was killed by a crooked cop) for being too young, but after she gave a brilliant performance in auditions, Luc Besson (director) decided to cast Natalie in the role.

10. "Where is this love? I can't see it, I can't touch it. I can't feel it. I can hear it. I can hear some words, but I can't do anything with your easy words." Can you name the film where Portman seeks the love?

From Quiz Natalie Portman Says What?

Answer: Closer (2004)

My favorite Portman film, "Closer", a very risque and controversial film about relationships, follows two separate couples who, through the course of the film, have issues of fidelity. In this quote, Portman's Alice is confronting Jude Law's character about his "I love you", trying to trust him when he's not around. To her, he talks a good game, but doesn't always walk the talk.

11. Natalie Portman landed the role of Queen Padmé Amidala in "Star Wars" (Episodes I-III). Which actress plays Padmé's decoy, Sabé, in "Episode I - The Phantom Menace"?

From Quiz Natalie Portman and Her Co-Stars

Answer: Keira Knightley

When the two talented young actresses were both dressed up in their costumes, it was allegedly almost impossible to tell them apart. Episodes I-III of "Star Wars" are about how Anakin Skywalker grew from being a naive little boy to the most feared Sith lord of all. These movies didn't do justice to Portman's talent. For Knightley's sake, she only has a small supporting role in "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace".

12. "Is life always this hard, or is it just when you're a kid?" This early Natalie Portman line shouldn't be as hard as her life was in this film. Which is it?

From Quiz Natalie Portman Says What?

Answer: Leon: The Professional (1994)

This was Natalie's breakout role, playing a preteen who befriends a "cleaner", Leon. She decides to become a hit (wo)man, with Leon's help, so that she can go after the man who killed her family in a drug sting. Mathilda is just getting to know Leon at the point she makes this comment. The soft spoken Leon (Jean Reno) replies simply, "always like this".

13. In "Cold Mountain", from 2003, Natalie has a minor role as a young mother. Which of the main characters visits her cottage in the film?

From Quiz Natalie Portman and Her Co-Stars

Answer: Inman, played by Jude Law

Portman's part in this movie is rather small. She delivers as always, though, as the young mother who welcomes Law's Inman, a wounded Confederate soldier, into her cabin. Inman is on his way back to his native Cold Mountain where he will be reunited with his love, Ada, played by Nicole Kidman. The journey proves to be difficult and dangerous.

14. "Do you got a girlfriend?" In which film was Natalie Portman looking for a boyfriend?

From Quiz Natalie Portman Says What?

Answer: Mars Attacks! (1996)

Most people probably don't even remember that Natalie was in this Tim Burton spoof about Martians coming to Earth and destroying everything. But that is a young Natalie Portman as the president's daughter. After the day is saved, Taffy is the lone surviving member of the administration, so it's her job to bestow the medals to the heroes. These are the last few lines from the film, which she says to the young Lucas Haas character as she puts the medal around his neck. He gets the last line in the film, a simple "No" in reply.

The problem starts when the man from one couple (Law) meets the woman from another (Roberts), and everything turns into a big mess. Natalie Portman and Clive Owen were nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Actor Oscars for "Closer", and both won the Golden Globes for the same categories.

16. Which Natalie Portman film sees her saying "Whatever happens in the end, I don't wanna lose you as my friend."?

From Quiz Natalie Portman Says What?

Answer: Hotel Chevalier (2007)

In the short before "The Darjeeling Limited", a man holds a conversation with a former lover, who shows up in Paris, following him. It turns out that she's on her way up to his room, and he struggles with allowing her back into his life, before giving in. They are getting ready to make love when Natalie's character makes this statement. Jason Schwartzman's character replies with a very funny "I promise, I will never be your friend. No matter what. Ever."

17. Natalie played Sam in "Garden State" from 2004. Who wrote, directed and played the lead in the movie?

From Quiz Natalie Portman and Her Co-Stars

Answer: Zach Braff

Natalie is great as the goofy, but smart Sam, and again she plays the girl-next-door type who the lead character gets a crush on. Zach Braff, from TV's "Scrubs", wrote and directed a terrific film about a struggling actor who has been under a constant influence of drugs since he was a little boy. When he returns home for his mother's funeral, he decides to take a pause from the drugs and see life through unmedicated eyes.

18. In 2002, Natalie won the Teen Choice Award for Choice Actress in a Drama/Action Adventure Film for her performance in what movie?

From Quiz Natalie Portman

Answer: Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones

Once again, Natalie was nominated for a number of awards for her performance as Senator Padmé Amidala in this 2002 film. The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror (2003) nomination was for Best Actress. (She was no longer relegated to the category of "younger actress".) Other than the one Teen Choice Award that Natalie won for her role, she was also nominated that year (2002) in the category of Choice Chemistry in a Film with co-star Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker). The people behind the Razzie Awards obviously didn't agree and nominated Natalie and Christensen for Worst Screen Couple (2003). Natalie picked up another nomination at the Razzies that year for Worst Supporting Actress.

19. In 2005, Portman played a part in the movie "V For ______". What word is missing?

From Quiz Natalie Portman and Her Co-Stars

The plot takes place in a totalitarian Britain, where the government oppresses the people and takes away their freedoms. A man in disguise, known only as V, goes on a personal vendetta against the government. V rescues Evey, played by Natalie Portman, and she sees him as sort of a father figure. Natalie had to go bald for her role in this movie.

20. For which part in "Cold Mountain" (2003) did Natalie originally audition?

From Quiz Natalie Portman

Answer: Ada

Natalie appeared in "Cold Mountain" as Sara, a supporting character that Inman (Jude Law) met when he traveled home to Cold Mountain. Though she originally auditioned for the role of Ada Monroe (the woman who Inman left behind when he went to fight in the Civil War), the role was given to Nicole Kidman. Renée Zellweger played Ruby Thewes. Though Natalie was not nominated for any awards for her performance in this film, the movie itself picked up Best Film nominations at the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Film Awards, BAFTA Awards, Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards, Empire Awards, Golden Globe Awards and the PGA Golden Laurel Awards (all in 2004).

21. "What we've been doing lately is smoking massive amounts of drugs, binging on Entemmann's and listening to old Pink Floyd CD's." Which film had a very clean and sober Portman jokingly referring to drug use?

From Quiz Natalie Portman Says What?

Answer: Beautiful Girls (1996)

In her 3rd film, Natalie plays a young girl in a small town. In the film, Timothy Hutton plays a man returning for his high school reunion. He's reached a lull in his life, between his job and his relationship; he's not who he used to be. When Willie returns to his town, all his friends are basically the same, just older. He finds solace in the only mature person he finds, twelve year old Marty (Portman). He is ridiculed for this connection with a Lolita, but it is a very gripping friendship the two develop in the course of the film. Through the innocence of the young child, he learns that he doesn't have to be like his friends, nor does he have to completely grow up, just because he's older. The quote comes when Willie inquires what Marty and her friends do for fun at her age as he's getting to know her. Her straightforward replay has him taken aback before she assures him that it is a joke, and he should lighten up.

22. In "My Blueberry Nights" from 2007, Portman has a supporting role. Who plays the soul-searching main character?

From Quiz Natalie Portman and Her Co-Stars

Answer: Norah Jones

Answer: Jason Schwartzman

Natalie only has a very short cameo in this film, which features three brothers played by Jason Schwartzman, Owen Wilson and Adrien Brody traveling by train through India. They examine their relationship to each other, and to their mother. Scwartzman has earlier starred in "Marie Antionette", "Rushmore" and "I Heart Huckabees". Portman stars in the short "Hotel Chevalier" which acts as a prologue to "The Darjeeling Limited". This short is a love story, in which Natalie has some controversial nude scenes.

25. Natalie received her first Golden Globe Award for what movie?

From Quiz Natalie Portman

Answer: Closer

"Closer" (2004) starred Julia Roberts, Jude Law and Clive Owen as well, and was directed by Mike Nichols, who also directed Natalie in the stage play "The Seagull." The movie was about two London couples and their adventures in swapping partners. Law played Dan, a mediocre obituary writer who met Alice (Natalie) when he saved her life on a busy London street one day. After moving in together, Alice inspired Dan to write a book and while being photographed for the book jacket, Dan met Anna (Roberts) and instantly developed feelings for her. Upon being rejected, Dan tried to play a cruel joke on her, unknowingly setting her up with a dermatologist names Larry (Owen). At the 2005 Golden Globe Awards, Natalie picked up the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture. Her co-star, Clive Owen, picked up a Golden Globe in the supporting actor category. Other awards that Natalie won for her performance as Alice included the National Board of Review Award for Best Acting by an Ensemble (shared with Owen, Law and Roberts) and the San Diego Film Critics Society Award for Best Supporting Actress (both in 2004). 26. For her role in what 2005 film was Natalie asked to speak with a British accent and to shave off all of her hair?

From Quiz Natalie Portman

Answer: V for Vendetta

Natalie was chosen for the role of Evey over other young actresses such as Scarlett Johansson and Bryce Dallas Howard. Set in futuristic, totalitarian Britain, Evey (Natalie) was rescued one night by a masked vigilante known only as V (Hugo Weaving). She found herself an unlikely ally in his plot to bring freedom and justice back to society. She has stated that she looked forward to shaving her head for the movie, as she had wanted to do that for a long time. As for the English accent, Natalie worked with dialectologist Barbara Berkery (who has worked with Geoffrey Rush, Kate Hudson and Gwyneth Paltrow). Natalie picked up another Teen Choice Award nomination in the category of Choice Actress: Drama/Action Adventure Movie (2006).

27. In one movie, Natalie's character declared, "He's not my father. He's my lover." Which movie was it?

From Quiz Natalie Portman

Answer: "Léon" (1994)

Mathilda (Natalie) returned from grocery shopping to find crooked cop Norman Stansfield (Gary Oldman) at her family's apartment, minutes after her father and little brother were murdered. Not wanting Stansfield to realize she was a family member (and chance being killed as well), Mathilda continued down the hall, pretending she lived in a different apartment, that of Léon. He reluctantly let her inside and from there, the two formed a bond. After finding out that Léon was a professional assassin (or "cleaner"), Mathilda desperately seeked his help in getting revenge for her brother. The movie was released as "The Professional" in the USA.

28. In "Where the Heart Is" (2000), Natalie's character Novalee gave birth to a baby girl. Novalee claimed she wanted her baby to have "a strong name." What did Novalee name her little girl?

From Quiz Natalie Portman

Answer: Americus

Natalie did a great job in "Where the Heart Is" playing a strong female character that didn't let the setbacks in life hold her back permanently. Novalee raised a daughter with the help of the local townspeople, not accepting handouts from the neighborhood, but allowing them to pitch in when needed. Though it would be expected (and understandable), Novalee did not have a moment of complete self-pity, where she thought her life was over.
