Vincent Price Trivia Questions

1. What movie is based on two Jules Verne works?

From Quiz
Vincent Price Movies

Answer: Master of the World

Jules Verne wrote "Master of the World" and "Robur the Conqueror", on which this movie is based. It's a story about a man who wishes to end all wars using his flying ship. It's a good movie but has some of the worst special effects you'll ever see!

2. 1940. This was Vincent's very first horror film with him in the lead role. It was a sequel to the 1933 original that starred Claude Rains. Name the film.

From Quiz The Films of Vincent Price

Answer: The Invisible Man Returns

"The Invisible Man Returns", released in 1940, was Vincent's first starring role in a horror and was a foreshadow of things to come. For those of you who guessed "Tower of London", Vincent was killed about half an hour through the movie so, although to be technical it was his first crack at horror, it was not his first starring role in one.

3. In which movie do Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee also appear?

From Quiz Vincent Price Movies

Answer: Scream and Scream Again

Unfortunately, Peter Cushing is in the movie for about 3 minutes, while Christopher Lee is in a few short scenes. Vincent is in the movie for about 25 minutes. Price plays a Doctor who is helping create a race of Super-Humans. This movie can be quite confusing and therefore needs to be watched more than once if you want to understand everything that is going on.

4. 1946. This was Vincent's first solo starring role in a film and he did wonderfully. He plays a psychiatrist who kills his wife and who has to take care of the one person who saw him do it. Name the film.

From Quiz The Films of Vincent Price

Answer: Shock

Vincent plays Dr. Dick Cross, a man who murdered his wife because she threatened to tell the newspapers about the affair he was having with one of his nurses, played by Lynn Bari. The murder takes place in a hotel, and a woman in the room adjoining Dr. Cross' room saw it all--and then goes into a state of shock. Once she comes out of it, she tells what she saw-and Dr. Cross tries to drive her insane. Absolutely incredible suspense movie.

5. Finish the Tagline: "Do you have the courage to spend 83 minutes in the ________________."

From Quiz Vincent Price Movies

Answer: Tower of London

Based on Shakespeare's "Richard III", Price plays the part of Richard, who desires to be king of England after his brother King Edward passes away. Richard murders his way to the throne of England and then is haunted by his victims. Interestingly, the movie is actually only 80 minutes long.

6. What was the last period horror Film Vincent Price did for American International Pictures?

From Quiz Vincent Price Movies

Answer: Cry of the Banshee

Judging by the poor reviews this movie received, it was maybe for the best that this was the last. Price played a magistrate who was eager to rid the area of witches. However, one witch put a curse on him and his family. When members of his family began to die, Price had to try to escape the curse.

7. 1953. This was the film that cemented Vincent in horror films forever. He plays sculptor Henry Jarrod, a man who is betrayed by his business partner. Jarrod's place is set on fire. He is alive but now insane.

From Quiz The Films of Vincent Price

Answer: House of Wax

Boy, he sure had a lot of movies with the word "house" in them didn't he? Anyway, this is one of the first films that was shot in 3-D, a new concept back then. Interesting that the director, Andre de Toth, only had one eye, so he never got the full concept of the 3-D.

8. Although it is not mentioned as one of the 'Tales of Terror', what story is hidden among the other three tales?

From Quiz AIP/ Vincent Price Movies

Answer: The Cask of Amontillado

During the 'Black Cat' sequence, Price and Lorre have a drinking contest of Amontillado Sherry.

9. Which movie also features Charles Bronson?

From Quiz Vincent Price Movies

Answer: House of Wax

He was known as Charles Buchinsky back then. Bronson plays a mute who helps Price in his wax museum. Price's character is badly burned at the beginning of the movie. No longer able to sculpt with his hands, Price has to use real people dipped in wax for his subjects.

10. 1956. With his cast of thousands, Cecil B. DeMille remade one of his silent movies of the '20s. Vincent has a small role as Baka the master builder. Charlton Heston has the lead role, along with Yul Brynner. Name the film.

From Quiz The Films of Vincent Price

Answer: The Ten Commandments

An incredible film shot partly on location in Egypt, it literally had a cast of thousands, as DeMille's movies usually did. Almost four hours long, "The Ten Commandments" is always shown around Easter time. If you haven't seen it yet, catch it when it comes on next Easter.

11. Which film featured Christopher Lee along with Price?

From Quiz AIP/ Vincent Price Movies

Answer: The Oblong Box

12. Debra Paget made her final film appearance in which movie?

From Quiz Vincent Price Movies

Answer: The Haunted Palace

Debra plays the part of Vincent's wife. She is alarmed at the changes in her husband since they came to the Palace once owned by Vincent's evil great, great grandfather who was burned alive by the townsfolk. Eventually Price is possesed by the spirit of his great, great grandfather and continues in his evil ways. It's sad Debra quit doing movies at such a young age. She also appears in "Tales of Terror".

13. 1958. It features Vincent as Francois Delambre, the brother of a man who is the victim of a science experiment gone wrong. Name the film.

From Quiz The Films of Vincent Price

Answer: The Fly

Ah, "The Fly". Indeed a classic. I saw the remake and I like this version better. I always wondered why people think that Vincent is the one who played Andre. If you've seen the film, you know he plays Francois. Strange.

14. Which film featured much of the same cast as 'The Raven'?

From Quiz AIP/ Vincent Price Movies

Answer: The Comedy of Terrors

Both films starred Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, and Peter Lorre. The alternate title of 'The Comedy of Terrors' is 'Much Ado About Murder.'

15. This film was released in 1958. This one has him playing Frederick Loren, a man who invites five people to come and stay overnight at a haunted house. If they survive they get 10,000 dollars. Name the film.

From Quiz The Films of Vincent Price

Answer: House on Haunted Hill

This is one of my favorites as well. It has a lot of sentimental value to me. It was one of the first Vincent Price movies I ever saw, back in 1998. Again I saw the remake, and even though Geoffrey Rush did an outstanding job trying to be like Vincent, he just... isn't.

16. Which film was made in two weeks because Corman had some money left over from 'The Raven'?

From Quiz AIP/ Vincent Price Movies

Answer: The Terror

Both films feature Boris Karloff and a young Jack Nicholson. 'The Terror' was also seen in the beginning of the Karloff film 'Targets' by Peter Bogdonovich.

17. What film's hypnotism sequences were supervised by the American Hypnosis Institute?

From Quiz Vincent Price Movies

Answer: Tales of Terror

Basil Rathbone plays the doctor who hypnotizes Vincent Price. Price's character is dying from some disease and the doctor uses hypnotism ( mesmerism was the term used in the movie ) to ease his pain. In exchange for the doctor's services, Price agrees to let the doctor see how long he can delay the moment of death using hypnotism.

18. What character from another Poe short story makes an appearance in 'The Masque of the Red Death'?

From Quiz AIP/ Vincent Price Movies

Answer: Hoptoad

Hoptoad is a dwarf who gets his revenge against the cruel people who've taunted him.

19. Price plays Edward Lionheart, an actor who kills the critics who denied him the Critic's Circle Award in which movie?

From Quiz Vincent Price Movies

Answer: Theater of Blood

Price kills the critics using Shakespeare's plays as his inspiration. This is my favorite Vincent Price movie of them all!

20. 1961. This is the second installment of the Price/Poe/Corman films. Vincent plays Nicholas Medina, a man who just recently lost his wife, Elizabeth. Name the film.

From Quiz The Films of Vincent Price

Answer: The Pit and the Pendulum

I just love this one. The ending alone is enough for the price of the movie. "Do you know where you are, Bartolome?"

21. Here's a good one! In which film does somebody NOT get buried alive?

From Quiz AIP/ Vincent Price Movies

Answer: The Masque of the Red Death

22. 1962. The third movie in the series, it is a trilogy of stories by Poe beginning with "Morella" and ending with "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar". Name the film.

From Quiz The Films of Vincent Price

Answer: Tales of Terror

Interesting trilogy of tales. The second tale is my favorite. The drinking scene between Vincent and Peter Lorre is classic. I've heard people say that "The Tell-Tale Heart" is incorporated in this, but I don't see it. Just "The Black Cat" and "The Cask of Amontillado". If you see it and can point this out to me, give me a note.

23. 1963. This fourth movie is a comedy. It features Vincent Price, Boris Karloff and Peter Lorre. It also has a young Jack Nicholson. Vincent plays Dr. Craven, Boris Dr. Scarabus, and Peter plays Dr. Bedlo - I think I gave it away. Name the film.

From Quiz The Films of Vincent Price

Answer: The Raven

Poor Vincent. He's always mourning the loss of a wife. I guess he did it so well the first time that they decided to just keep them going... Anyway, this movie is one of the funniest from the three guys. My favorite line would be: "Shall I ever hold again that radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore?" "How should I know? What am I a fortune teller?!" Kills me every time.

24. 1973. Vincent's magnum opus before he retreated to the theater for a while, he portrays Edward Lionheart, a man who is out to get every critic who ever gave him a bad review. Name the film.

From Quiz The Films of Vincent Price

Answer: Theater of Blood

This film is rather similar to Dr. Phibes in that Lionheart kills everyone with sort of a theme. This time it is Shakespeare. Lionheart goes down his list of Shakespearean plays that he ever did and kills of the critics one by one. This one is kind of gory, too.

25. 1990. This was Vincent's next to last role in a film. It was directed by Tim Burton. Vincent played the inventor. Johnny Depp was in the lead role.

From Quiz The Films of Vincent Price

Answer: Edward Scissorhands

Vincent did such a good job in his small role as the inventor. In the scene when he died, I almost thought he wasn't faking. I'm pretty gullible, I know. I hope you've enjoyed this quiz as well as my 'Films of Bela Lugosi' Quiz - stay tuned for more!
