1973 was a good year for Charlie Rich with the release of "Behind Closed Doors". At the Academy of Country Music Awards this won Album of the Year, Single of the Year and Best Male Vocalist. This gold record peaked at number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles and the Canadian RPM Country Tracks. On the U. S. Billboard Hot 100 the song peaked at number fifteen.

The song was named after Baker Street in London. The song has been covered many times by artists such as Waylon Jennings, Rick Springfield, Maynard Ferguson, Chicago and the London Symphony Orchestra, among others. Gerry Rafferty was born in 1947 in Scotland and died in January 2011 of liver failure.

4. When The Drifters come for a visit as they do, where do they like to be?

From Quiz My House Is Alive with the Sound of Music

Answer: Up on the Roof

The Drifters had a number five hit on the US pop chart with "Up On The Roof" in 1963. It failed to chart in the UK. Rudy Lewis was lead singer on this hit. The song was written by Gerry Goffin/Carole King; Carole King also played piano on the record. Well, which Drifters are we talking about? There have been over 70 different individuals in various configurations of The Drifters. There has been more than one Drifters group at the same time. The Drifters were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 (the same year as The Beatles). Two different Drifters groups have been inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. The Original Drifters (formed with Clyde McPhatter in 1953) were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1998. Ben E. King & The Drifters were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall Of Fame in 2000. "At The Club" was a number 43 hit on the US pop chart in 1965. It reached number 35 on the UK chart the same year. It reached number three as a double A-side with "Saturday Night At The Movies" on the UK chart in 1972. "Down On The Beach Tonight" did not chart in the US. It reached number seven on the UK chart in 1974. "Under The Boardwalk" was a number four hit on the US pop chart in 1964. It reached number 45 on the UK chart the same year.

From Quiz It's all to do with Buildings

Answer: People

'Y.M.C.A.' was a number one hit for the Village People in the UK Singles chart in November 1978. It was also re-issued twice more in the UK in 1993 (#12)and 1999 (#35).

6. "Hate your next-door neighbour, but don't forget to say grace". Which artist does this lyric belong to?

From Quiz Out The "Door" Quiz

Answer: Barry McGuire

This lyric is from Barry McGuire's famous anti-war song "Eve Of Destruction".

7. The Dutch band Cuby And The Blizzards recorded this song and released it as their 1968 single. It was a pretty big hit in Holland that year. It was called "Window Of My _____". I am 56 years old. My memory is fading. What was it the window of?

From Quiz Pick a WINDOW, yer leavin' Part 2

Answer: Eyes

Cuby & The Blizzards were really big in their native Holland. They formed in 1964 and were easily the most "Blues-Rock" band in Holland at the time (a la the original Fleetwood Mac, Chicken Shack, John Mayall, Keef Hartley Band etc). Their line up changed constantly with founders Harry Muskee and Eelco Gelling being the only constants. They had a very long career (1964-1976) and reformed twice: in 1996 without Eelco Gelling and again in 2004 on a tour in tribute to John Lee Hooker. After Harry Muskee died on September 26, 2011 any possibilities of future reunions died with him.

8. Which 'San Francisco Scene' band recorded the song "Sitting By The Window"?

From Quiz Pick a WINDOW, yer leavin' Part 1

Answer: Moby Grape

This track was from Moby Grape's great debut album, which sadly bombed due to their record label's horribly misguided attempt to hype it into the charts and critic's hearts by doing every possible thing wrong. It all but stopped the band's career from the get go and in the process one of the scene's very best albums was a mere footnote until relatively recently when it was finally rediscovered for being a truly classic album.

9. Address: Tobacco Road. Originally recorded in 1960, which group had a hit in 1964 with a cover version of "Tobacco Road?"

From Quiz Sing Me an Address

Answer: The Nashville Teens

Written and originally recorded by John D Loudermik in 1960, "Tobacco Road" was not a hit for him. However, when it was covered by The Nashville Teens in 1964, it rose to number six on the UK Singles Chart and number 14 on the US Singles Chart. The song has also been covered by many artists, such as Lou Rawls, Jefferson Airplane, David Lee Roth and Status Quo, to name but a few.

10. She's on the phone from Sunday to Monday but how did she get into my house to see The Beatles?

From Quiz My House Is Alive with the Sound of Music

Answer: She Came in through the Bathroom Window

"She Came in through the Bathroom Window" was track number seven on side two of The Beatles album "Abbey Road". The album was number one for 17 weeks on the UK album chart in 1969/70. It was number one for 11 weeks on the US album chart in 1969/1970. The track was written by Lennon/McCartney and the lead singer was Paul McCartney. By 1980 it was the first Beatles album to sell over 10,000,000 copies worldwide. It is one of, if not the, most famous album covers of all time, the shot was taken by photographer Ian Macmillan. The decision to use it without the group's name or album title on the front cover was that of Abbey Road Studio's creative director at the time, John Kosh. Thanks guys!

11. Suzanne Vega had a hit in the UK singles chart with "Tom's ..." what?

From Quiz It's all to do with Buildings

Love breaks apart - boy moves out: "I can still see you standing There on the third-floor landing. The day you visited we hardly said a word. Outside it was rainin', You said you couldn't be stayin" Well, at least she came to visit - that must count for something...

13. "When darkness is upon your door, and you feel like you can't take anymore". Which Australian act owns this lyric?

Answer: The Hollies

The almost always amazing Hollies recorded "Look Through Any Window" in 1965. In the UK it was a single release. In The USA it was a track on their 1965 album 'Hear! Here!'. Up until the earlier part of the '70s The Hollies pretty much could do no wrong whatsoever, in my opinion. One of Britain's truly great bands.

From Quiz Sing Me an Address

Answer: Suzi Quatro

From Quiz Out The "Door" Quiz

Answer: Matchbox Twenty

This lyric is from Matchbox Twenty's "If You're Gone", off their 2000 album "Mad Season", which also contained the title track and "Bent"

18. Even Stevie Wonder decided to horn in on my Windows quiz action and he wrote a song for his 1979 "Journey Through The Secret Life Of Plants" double album soundtrack. What was the name of his window song?

From Quiz Pick a WINDOW, yer leavin' Part 2

Answer: Outside My Window

Let's see... a TWO LP set soundtrack to a film about plants. How could this not sell? This album has been referred to as 'experimental'. If mediocre songwriting combined with a go-nowhere idea is what can be considered 'experimental', well then who am I to argue? "Outside My Window" might well be the only decent song on that album, which went platinum right after it was released and afterwards sold about one billionothing copies and could be found in cut out bins in stores across the USA for $1.99 less than three months after it was released! I think the only other double album that raced to the cut out bins as fast as Stevie's was the 1974 "Johnny Carson-Here's Johnny Magic Moments From The Tonight Show". When I first moved back to the USA in 1976 there was a music store near me that specialized in cut out records and tapes, discontinued posters and music books and other paraphernalia. They had a 100 count lp box at the exit full of this Johnny Carson album which encouraged customers to buy one for a dime. After a few months that changed to "For Free" and after a few more months they were including a copy inside your bag for free - you were kind of being forced to take a copy home with you in other words (at one point I had about 100+ copies of this album in my possession because of this practice of theirs) because they could not even give copies of this album away! This is the kind of company 'Journey Through The Secret Life Of Plants' was keeping less than a few months after it was released! As with most Stevie Wonder songs the ending goes on (seemingly) forever, but other than that it is really a surprisingly good song that really shines within the context of this album.

19. Which act on the Motown label recorded the song "Lookin' Through The Windows"?

From Quiz Pick a WINDOW, yer leavin' Part 1

21. When Cliff Richard came for a cup of tea and a chat I asked him what he was doing. What do think he said to me after these words? "I bought a suit to please you, I wear it every day I'll wear it just in case you call, I wore it yesterday"

From Quiz My House Is Alive with the Sound of Music

Answer: I'm Looking out the Window

Cliff Richard had a number two hit on the UK chart with the double A-side "I'm Looking Out The Window/Do You Want to Dance" in 1962. It did not chart in the US. From Quiz Pick a WINDOW, yer leavin' Part 2

The 1968 self titled, Lou Adler produced, debut Spirit album (one of the ten greatest albums ever made in my opinion, along with the equally brilliant follow up "The Family That Plays Together", which is every bit the equal of the first album) contains the song "Topanga Windows". 'Lookin' Thru My Window...' is a made up title.

From Quiz My House Is Alive with the Sound of Music

It reached number three and was his only hit on the UK chart the same year. He died following a self inflicted gunshot while suffering from emphysema in 1996.

From Quiz It's all to do with Buildings

Answer: Iron Maiden

29. Grey men are diving from the 14th floor. It must be:

From Quiz Songs with Numbered Floors in the Lyrics

Answer: "Black Friday" - Steely Dan

"When Black Friday comes I'll stand down by the door And catch the grey men when they Dive from the fourteenth floor" A probable reference to the rash of suicides that occured in the US on Oct. 29, 1929, "Black Friday" when the Stock Market crashed. Of course, the men would really be jumping from the 13th floor, misnamed the 14th in most buildings in order to avoid the unlucky number.
