1. Who first recorded "I Love Rock and Roll"?

From Quiz
Songs You Thought Joan Jett Wrote

Answer: The Arrows

Alan Merill wrote this song in 1975 as a response to the Rolling Stones song "It's Only Rock and Roll but I Like It." The Arrows recorded a great version of this song but it didn't become a hit. Then, Joan Jett recorded it and it somehow became a huge hit for her. How this happened is beyond me, as I actually prefer the Arrows' version of the song.

2. "Knocking on Heaven's Door" was a cover version for Guns 'N Roses that was released in 1992, but who sang the original back in 1973?

From Quiz By Request

Answer: Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan wrote and sang the song for the 1973 film, "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid". It reached number 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Guns N' Roses recorded their version for the soundtrack of the 1990 film, "Days of Thunder". Other notable artists who made the song their cover were Eric Clapton, The Grateful Dead and U2.

3. "Come Fly With Me" appeared on the Michel Buble album "The Best of Michael Buble". What great singer had the original hit with this song?

From Quiz Sing Me a Michael Buble Covered Song

Answer: Frank Sinatra

Michael Buble was born in British Columbia, Canada, on 9 September 1975. He began his singing career in nightclubs when he was 16 years of age. He has won several Grammy Awards and many Juno Awards. His album "Call Me Irresponsible" reached number one on the Canadian, Australian and UK Albums Chart and also the Billboard 200 Albums chart. His other albums have had similar success. "Come Fly With Me" was written for Frank Sinatra in 1957 by Jimmy VanHeusen, with Jimmy Cahn writing the Lyrics. The song featured in the film of the same name, sung by Frankie Avalon. It can also be heard in numerous movies such as "Betsy's Wedding (1990), "Air America" (1990) and "Two Weeks' Notice (2001), to name just three. Francis Albert (Frank) Sinatra was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, in December 1915. His musical career started in the swing era and he sang with the Tommy Dorsey and Harry James bands. He began his solo career in about 1943. His film career started in about 1944 and he went on to become a major box-office star, winning an Academy Award in 1953 for Best Supporting Actor in "From Here to Eternity". He died in 1998 aged 82.

4. Who released "Let's Get Together" first?

From Quiz 60s Cover Tunes Pt. 2

Answer: Kingston Trio

This was the Hippie Anthem of the 60s. But not so fast, the folk protest movement of the early 60s claims this song as well. Dino Valenti wrote this in '64 and the Kingston Trio released it in June of '64. Another folk group the We Five had a minor hit with it barely cracking the US Billboard Top Forty in November '65. So when the Youngbloods finally got a hold of it in '67, the Beatnik generation had already made a statement with this song. But for some reason the initial Youngbloods issue barely made it into Billboard's Top Hundred in '67. It wasn't until '69 that it was revived and became a Top Ten Billboard hit.

5. Sugar Ray covered 'Abracadabra' in 1999, but who released the 1982 original version?

From Quiz Songs You Thought Joan Jett Wrote

Answer: Do You Wanna Touch Me?

"Do You Wanna Touch Me?" was written by Gary Glitter. It became a hit for him. Then Joan Jett covered it and it became a hit for her. In 2015, Glitter was sentenced to 16 years in prison for having sex with a 13-year-old. Come to think if it, the words "Every girl and boy needs a little joy" should have been a warning. Other Glitter songs that she covered include "Doing Alright With the Boys" and "I Love you Love me Love."

20. Who released the Chip Taylor penned song "Any Way That You Want Me" first?

From Quiz 60s Cover Tunes Pt. 2

Answer: Tina Mason

The envelope please. It's Tina Mason by a nose with no more than a three week gap over the Liverpool 5. But this one is a bit skewed - "Any Way That You Want Me" was the B side to "Finders Keepers" on Capitol in the USA. Evie Sands, who normally recorded Chip Taylor songs first bypassed this one until '69. It stayed for a record 17 weeks on Billboard's Top Hundred for a song that did not enter the Top Fifty. Evie actually tied the record with another artist whom I can't recall right now. Was it Trini Lopez?

21. Who released "Hey Joe" first?

From Quiz 60's Cover Songs

Answer: The Leaves

There are three distinct versions of "Hey Joe" by The Leaves. Mira 207 and Mira 222. Mira 207 version is acoustic but yet very manic in style. Mira 222 is the fuzzed out version with some wild electric guitar licks. I own these two versions. The other version is unclear to me but I've heard thru sources there are three versions. Which is the better version between Jimi Hendrix, Love and The Leaves is in the ear of the listener. I'll leave it up to you to decide.

The Beatles used the song in their performances during the period of 1961 to 1963 and recorded it for their first U.K. album called "Please Please Me" in 1963. 28. "Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I've got what it takes." Have you got what it takes to tell me who did the original version of Manfred Mann's Earth Band's "Blinded By the Light?"

From Quiz Who Originally Recorded It?

Answer: Bruce Springsteen

This is one example of a song that was completely reinvented by the band that covered it, with outstanding results. The original song does not fit the Boss's style, and it seems strange that Springsteen wrote and sang it. Perhaps if I had never heard the remake, I could get into the original, but unfortunately, I have, and so I can't. Manfred Mann adds a great dance beat, rearranges the lyrics, puts a great deal more vocal expression into the song, and comes up with a masterpiece.

29. Blue Suede was "Hooked on a Feeling" in 1974 in a cover of the 1969 hit by what artist?

From Quiz Covers and Originals

The Blue Suede version included an odd sounding chant at the beginning. BJ Thomas recorded several hits including "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" featured in the movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid".

30. No Doubt included a remake of "It's My Life" on their greatest hits CD. Which '80's band released the original?
