In the start of the penultimate leg of the race, the final four teams departed from the Banff Springs Resort in Alberta, Canada, took a bus to Calgary, and caught a flight over the International Date Line to Beijing, the capital city of China. Upon their arrival, teams had to head to the Ghost Street Food District where a marked stall would house their next clue. All four teams took the same flight via Vancouver.

Answer: Vancouver

Between Legs 8 and 9, teams left the Pit Stop in Ciénaga de Zapata, Cuba and traveled to El Capitolio in Havana. There, they opened their first clue of the ninth leg telling them to fly to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Once there, they had to get to Stanley Park and find a series of totem poles where they would receive a blessing from a Squamish priest and their next clue. This would subsequently send them to the Vancouver Rowing Club, on foot, with two paddles in tow.

Starting the seventh leg of the race midday in Istanbul, Turkey, teams headed out from Beyazit Square and made their way to the airport to fly to Paris, France. Two teams ended up heading out on the first flight, four went out on the second, and James and Sarah ended up on the final one. All four arrived in the evening, leading to a night leg in the City of Lights.

Heading out from the roof of the Four Points hotel in Dubai, U.A.E. in Leg 5, teams were told to head to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel Marina near the Burj Al Arab Hotel. Once there, teams would be able to receive their next clue, a Detour task, once the Dubai Pearl dhow boat arrived at 9:30 in the morning. The Detour task was a choice between 'Count 'Em Up' and 'Price 'Em Up'. In the former, teams had to visit a spice market to count a sack of dried limes while in the latter, teams went to the Gold Souk to arrange seven pieces of jewelery in order of price from least to most expensive. All of the teams went with 'Count 'Em Up' except Sticky and Sam and, inevitably, Joseph and Grace and James and Sarah.

Answer: Jaipur

During their mandatory Pit Stop rest period, the remaining ten teams took a bus ride five houses southwest to from Delhi to the city of Jaipur in Rajasthan. Leaving on the next leg of the race, teams were told to take a cycle rickshaw and make their way to the Red Elephant Temple. Once there, everyone was blessed by a Hindu priest in a traditional Indian ceremony before receiving their next clue.

Answer: 'Pig'

Arriving in Albay Province, The Philippines, teams found the first Detour of the race at Cagsawa Ruins. Here, teams could choose either 'Jig' or 'Pig', both of which employed local culture to get the teams moving. Sue and Teresa finished 'Jig', which had them learn an upbeat dance to the exacting standards of several judges. In 'Pig', the other team teams worked to collect four pigs from a muddy pit; on the same token, all of the teammates needed to be greased up to finish the task. After this, teams got one step closer to the first Pit Stop.

Answer: Sydney

As eleven teams started the race, they opened their first clues in the Royal Botanic Gardens of Sydney, Australia. From here, they had to run on foot to nearby boats, jet across the bay and past the Sydney Opera House to their first task at Barangaroo Wharf. Here, both team members needed to hop into Honda CR-Z cars and navigate them forwards and backwards through a complex puzzle of vehicles to free themselves and receive the clue to their first international destination.

Answer: Two

Reaching Ghost Street in Beijing, teams ended up stumbling upon a food-related Detour task, a choice between 'Waiter' and 'Wheel'. In 'Waiter', teams dressed up as waiters and took the orders of eight restaurant customers in Mandarin Chinese. Then, they had to give the orders to the chef and return to serve the dishes to the correct patrons. In 'Wheel', teams spun a lazy susan which would determine which local delicacies they would have to stomach. Both members had to eat two dishes (some containing starfish, cockroaches, and more creepy crawlies) to continue. Only Michelle and Jo chose 'Waiter' while the other three teams chose 'Wheel'.

Answer: Paul and Steve

Arriving at the Vancouver Rowing Club, teams ended up obtaining the only Fast Forward clue of the race. For this task, teams needed to head to a local art gallery and, once there, pose nude for a predetermined amount of time while getting their portraits drawn by an art class. Paul and Steve completed this task allowing them to head directly to the Pit Stop. All of the other teams, meanwhile, were told to use their paddles to kayak from the Vancouver Rowing Club to the Harbour Green Park Dock. Once there, they had to use maritime flags to decrypt a message that would result in their next clue.

Answer: Souffle

After landing in Paris, teams needed to make their way to the world-class cooking school Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France. Upon arriving, teams found a Road Block task. For this one, they needed to master the art of cooking a souffle using ingredients and a recipe at their disposal. When the dish was correctly made and served to the director of the academy, the team could carry on. This was done by Steve, Michelle, Lucy, Grace, Sam, Andrew, and Sarah. For the Road Block, teams had to attend a mandatory cooking class at one of two times, allowing trailing teams to catch up.

Answer: Shane and Andrew

After the Detour, teams were told to proceed on foot to the next route marker found at the Deira Old Souq Station nearby. There, teams found the first Anonymous U-Turn of the race, allowing one team to force a trailing team to complete the side of the Detour they didn't initially finish. Shane and Andrew, who were first out of the Detour, ended up using it to force Paul and Steve to return to the Gold Souk to complete 'Price 'Em' Up', mainly because of Paul's attitude earlier in the day. The anonymity wasn't necessary; Paul and Steve were right behind the cops.

Surprisingly, the third leg had a second Road Block task awaiting teams at the ancient step well of Panna Meena ka Kund near the Amber Fort. Here, either team member could be selected for the brain teaser-type task at hand. Using a combination of forty-one steps downward and ten steps up, the team members participating had to reach a guru waiting within the well with their clue; they would only continue to the Pit Stop at the Nahargarh Fort if they made their way along the right path of stairs. Michelle, Sticky, Tarryn, Sue, Donna, Paul, Andrew, Joseph, James, and Emilia finished this task.

Arriving in Delhi, India in Leg 2, teams ended up choosing between 'Pull' and 'Poo' for their second Detour task, both of which involved the Indian use of cows. In 'Pull', eight of the teams ended up milking cows, filling a saucer a full liter (miking half a liter each) while in 'Poo', three of the teams had to make fifty cow dung patties to be used for fuel, smacking them onto a brick wall to dry in the sun. Although there was also a Detour held in Leg 3 in Jaipur, India, it was unaired on the show.

Answer: Foot

After the Detour, teams had to make their way to the Wuzhisheng Foot Reflection Health Center in Beijing where, in a definitely-not-relaxing task, both team members had to receive a ten minute foot massage. If any team member asked for the horrible pain to stop, they would have to begin their allotted time all over again. Following this, teams had to proceed to the eight hundred year old Marco Polo Bridge where, in the morning, a successful count of the lion statues on its sides (446) would result in their next clue.

Answer: Cheese

After the Road Block, teams needed to take a taxi to the Rungis Wholesale Market in Paris where they had to search the large warehouse for a specific cheese shop. There, the team had to retrieve a thirty kilogram wheel of cheese and deliver it, also by taxi, twenty-five kilometers through the city to the Alléosse Cheese Shop in the center of Paris. If it arrived undamaged it would result in their next clue directing them onward to an artist waiting for them on the Debilly Footbridge.

Answer: Istanbul

After reaching the Anonymous U-Turn, teams received a new clue telling them to head to the international airport to catch a flight to Istanbul, Turkey. Upon their arrival, they needed to make their way by taxi to the Blue Mosque where a sultan would hand them their next clue. Surprisingly, due to a delay, all eight teams ended up taking the same flight to Turkey arriving in the evening and creating an even playing field.

Answer: Fifteen minutes

At Jaipur Market, teams were asked to deliver seventy-five large, clay pots by stacking them however they chose onto the back of an ox cart and leading them down the streets to the other end of the open-air shopping center. If any teams managed to do so without breaking fifteen of them, they would continue on unabated but if they broke fifteen or more, they would need to wait out a fifteen-minute time penalty at the drop-off point before being allowed to continue on with the leg. Russ and Tarryn avoided the penalty as did Joseph and Grace and James and Sarah.

Answer: Eight

Arriving in Istanbul, Turkey midway through the fifth leg of the race, teams received their Road Block clue sending them to the Hagia Sophia cathedral. There, one member of each team had to remember eight Arabic symbols and keep them in mind on the way to the Basilica Cistern. There, they had to place them in order on a vertical column to get their next clue. If they forgot any of the symbols or needed to refresh their memory, they had one chance to revisit the Hagia Sophia. Sarah and Ross both failed to complete the task, instead opting to take four hour penalties upon checking into the Pit Stop.

Answer: Paul and Steve

In the fourth leg of the race, teams were forced to make a mandatory vote for the U-Turn coming up in the Al Faqa Desert outside of Dubai. As such, six of the participating teams ended up voting for Paul and Steve to complete both 'Dune Bash', a task involving dune buggying through a ten kilometer course in the desert, and 'Camel Dash', which involved riding a camel in a marked area while collecting flags. Following their Detour, teams were able to race back to Dubai.

Answer: Sue and Teresa

Leaving Manila, teams took a bus to the province of Albay, finding a clue with a snake charmer in the Cagsawa Ruins in Daraga. Here, teams began their first Detour task, a choice between 'Jig' and 'Pig'. In 'Jig', teams had to spend time learning a local Ibalong Festival dance in costume. When they perfected the moves, they could continue on. Only Sue and Teresa finished this task. All of the other teams completed 'Pig' in which they had to be covered in oil and catch four pigs in a muddy pen. The other ten teams did this one.

Answer: Three

Following the Detour, teams needed to get themselves to Grouse Mountain for a Road Block. In this task, one team member (Shane, Michelle, Grace, Emilia, and Sarah) had to 'reach for the sky' as they rode on top of the Grouse Mountain cable car for three kilometers, collecting three flags on their ascent from different points on the cable line and the car itself. Failure to do so would have resulted in restarting from the very bottom.

Answer: Havana

Reaching the Debilly Footbridge on the Seine, teams received a clue telling them to head back to the international airport-- their journey wouldn't end until they headed to Havana, the capital city of Cuba. As such, all teams ended up reaching Charles de Gaulle Airport and taking the two different flights to Havana, arriving the next day. At the airport, the teams had to find classic cars in the airport parking lot and drive to the Tropicana Night Club.

Answer: Arabic symbols

Arriving at the Blue Mosque, teams were handed their Road Block clue requiring that each team member chosen have 'a memory that won't go to water'. For this task, the selected member needed to head to the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. Once there, that person had to memorize eight names found on large signs in the mosque, all of Muslim origin. Then, they needed to proceed on foot to the nearby Basilica Cistern and place the symbols in the proper order. Teams could return to the Hagia Sophia for a refresher, but only once. Paul, Jo, Grace, Sarah, Lucy, Sam, Ross, and Andrew were selected for this task, but Sarah and Ross both took four-hour penalties for quitting the task.

Answer: Self-made raft

After the Detour teams took taxis to the seaside town of Bacacay where, arriving at Luyang Beach in front of the Misibis Bay Resort and Casino, the groups were told to head to their next Pit Stop. To do so, however, they had to create their own raft out of materials provided to them. The raft had to support both members of the team and survive the trip along the coast. If it broke down, they had to go back to shore and rebuild or, at the worst, start over from scratch.

At the end of their penultimate leg, the teams were told to make their way to their final Pit Stop of the race-- the Imperial Ancestral Temple at the Forbidden City of China. Despite leaving the Great Wall in second place, Michelle and Jo overtook Paul and Steve to win their first leg, also claiming $5,000 each. They were followed by Paul and Steve and Shane and Andrew in second and third. Joseph and Grace, unable to pay their cabbies and forced to walk a great distance, did not make it to the Great Wall and were eliminated on the course.

Completing the Road Block, teams were told to head by taxi to the next Pit Stop, Crab Park in Vancouver. Because they completed the Fast Forward, Paul and Steve took a fifth first place win in a row, this time claiming a $10,000 prize from Southern Cross Travel Insurance and once again cementing their lead over the other teams. After a series of missteps early on in the leg, James and Sarah ended up trailing through this ninth leg of the race, completely out of money, and they were eliminated in sixth place.

Answer: Joesph and Grace

After visiting the Tropicana Night Club and meeting with the head dancer, teams had to drive to the Hotel Nacional, their seventh Pit Stop of the race. For a third time in a row, Paul and Steve ended up arriving in first place. To teams' surprise, the race was not quite due for a break-- they were told to keep racing and were handed their next clue. Joseph and Grace ended up getting penalized two hours for stealing another team's cab in Paris but were not eliminated as a result.

Immediately after the Road Block, the eight teams were told to make their way to the fifth Pit Stop of the race, the Istanbul Archaeology Museum. Here, Paul and Steve were the first team to arrive for their first win. As a result, the pair ended up winning a trip for two to the Australian Rally Championship with VIP access valued at $10,000. In the end of the leg, James and Sarah arrived sixth, but took a four-hour penalty for not completing the Road Block. Ross and Tarryn, however, also took the penalty and ended up arriving in last. Luckily for them, the Pit Stop was non-elimination (which meant that they would be marked for elimination in the next leg); both teams took their penalty at the start of Leg 6.

Following the Road Block, teams ended up racing to the third Pit Stop of the race, the Nahargarh Fort. Stepping on the mat atop the roof overlooking Jaipur, Sticky and Sam took their second win in a row, this time receiving a home entertainment system from Bing Lee valued at $5,000. After faltering during the second Road Block, Sue and Teresa ended up dropping from their front-running position and getting eliminated at the end of this leg of the race.
