Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first Detour of the race in Leg 1 (in the Philippines), teams could complete either 'Jig' or which other task?

Answer: 'Pig'

Arriving in Albay Province, The Philippines, teams found the first Detour of the race at Cagsawa Ruins. Here, teams could choose either 'Jig' or 'Pig', both of which employed local culture to get the teams moving. Sue and Teresa finished 'Jig', which had them learn an upbeat dance to the exacting standards of several judges.

In 'Pig', the other team teams worked to collect four pigs from a muddy pit; on the same token, all of the teammates needed to be greased up to finish the task. After this, teams got one step closer to the first Pit Stop.
2. During Leg 2 of the race, teams chose the 'Poo' Detour task, creating cow dung patties in what country?

Answer: India

Arriving in Delhi, India in Leg 2, teams ended up choosing between 'Pull' and 'Poo' for their second Detour task, both of which involved the Indian use of cows. In 'Pull', eight of the teams ended up milking cows, filling a saucer a full liter (miking half a liter each) while in 'Poo', three of the teams had to make fifty cow dung patties to be used for fuel, smacking them onto a brick wall to dry in the sun.

Although there was also a Detour held in Leg 3 in Jaipur, India, it was unaired on the show.
3. In Leg 4, which team was forced to complete both sides of the Detour task in Dubai?

Answer: Paul and Steve

In the fourth leg of the race, teams were forced to make a mandatory vote for the U-Turn coming up in the Al Faqa Desert outside of Dubai. As such, six of the participating teams ended up voting for Paul and Steve to complete both 'Dune Bash', a task involving dune buggying through a ten kilometer course in the desert, and 'Camel Dash', which involved riding a camel in a marked area while collecting flags. Following their Detour, teams were able to race back to Dubai.
4. During the Detour in Leg 5 in Dubai, U.A.E., one team was affected by a U-Turn.

Answer: True

Before teams flew to Istanbul in Leg 5 they had to work at a Detour task in the old souks of Dubai. In one task ('Count 'Em Up') the teams had to count hundreds of dried limes; in the other ('Price 'Em Up') they had to correctly order jewelery by price.

After the Detour, teams found an anonymous U-Turn at the nearby waterfront and Shane and Andrew used it to send Paul and Steve back to the Gold Souk.
5. In the sixth leg of the race in Istanbul, teams could either shine shoes or search through which of the following?

Answer: Carpets

In Leg 6, teams headed through Istanbul to complete either 'Shine' or 'Design'. In 'Shine', completed by most of the teams, teams headed on foot to a bazaar in the city to shine locals' leather shoes. Teams had to attract ten customers and charge four lira per shine to receive their next clue.

In 'Design', teams needed to go to a Turkish carpet shop, take a fabric exemplar, and use it to locate their carpet amongst several piles. Only Sticky and Sam were able to do so.
6. Which Detour task was completed by more teams in Havana, Cuba in Leg 8?

Answer: 'Che Puzzle'

Heading into Old Havana for their Detour task in Leg 8, teams could either complete 'Daiquiri Guzzle' or 'Che Puzzle'. In the former, teams headed to the El Floridita bar to make six daiquiris each, then deliver them on foot, with one hand, to the Hotel Ambos Mundos' fifth floor to receive their next clue.

In 'Che Puzzle', teams needed to complete a ninety piece puzzle of Che Guevara's face in the plaza in front of the Cathedral of Havana. Only Paul and Steve and Sticky and Sam completed the first of the two challenges, leaving the other five to work out the jigsaw.
7. The 'Tumble' Detour task in Vancouver in Leg 9 involved which of the following?

Answer: Logs

In Vancouver, teams headed into the forests north of the city to complete their Detour task, a choice between 'Toss' and 'Tumble', both of which had the racers dress up as lumberjacks. In 'Toss', teams needed to throw axes over their heads to hit a wooden target. If they hit the target ten times with forty axes they could continue on.

This was done by Shane and Andrew, Joseph and Grace, and James and Sarah. In 'Tumble', Michelle and Jo and Lucy and Emilia had to go log-rolling. If they could stay on the log for ten non-consecutive rotations, they could get their next clue.
8. All teams completed the 'Search' Detour option in Alberta, Canada in Leg 10.

Answer: False

Arriving on the ski hills in Banff, Canada, teams ended up choosing between either 'Search' or 'Ski'. Lucy and Emilia chose 'Search' in which they were required to use an avalanche beacon to locate a backpack hidden under the snow of a large, marked area.

The other four teams went with 'Ski' in which they took the skilift up the hill to slalom ski down a flagged course. At the end, if done correctly, they would get their clue.
9. In Leg 11, some teams choosing the 'Wheel' Detour option in Beijing, China had to eat which of the following delicacies?

Answer: Starfish

Reaching the food district on Ghost Street in Beijing, China, the final four teams had to enter a restaurant for one of two Detour options-- 'Waiter' or 'Wheel'. Michelle and Jo and Joseph and Grace chose 'Waiter' in which they had to receive and recite eight orders from a table in the restaurant, relay the meals to the chefs, and serve them properly to get their next clue.

The other two teams went with 'Wheel' which, essentially, forced them to complete a roulette with several different Chinese delicacies ranging from roaches to seahorses. Each member of the team had to have two dishes before getting their clue.
10. The final Detour of the race was completed in Beijing, China.

Answer: False

Before starting Leg 12, teams were sent across China by plane to Guilin. After a task on the Lijiang River, teams ended up traveling to Yangshuo to complete a Detour with young children at a local kindergarten school. There, teams could either 'Teach' or 'Learn' (though all teams chose to 'Learn').

In 'Teach', they needed to teach a young child ten Aussie slang words while in 'Learn' they had to learn the Mandarin translations of Aussie slang.
