BioShock Trivia Questions

1. What nickname did the people of Rapture call Subject Delta from 'BioShock 2' before he became a Big Daddy?

From Quiz
Mr. Bubbles

Answer: Johnny Topside

Delta earned the nickname 'Johnny Topside' by discovering Rapture in a diving suit. Stanley Poole, a slimy reporter, sold him out to Andrew Ryan. He was imprisoned in Persephone, a high security prison, then given to Big Daddy experiments and rented out to Plasmid testing trials by Augustus Sinclair.

2. What is the name of the floating city found in the game?

From Quiz BioShock Infinite

Answer: Columbia

The game begins with private investigator Booker DeWitt approaching a lighthouse which is also the secret launching point sending him high into the sky to Columbia, a floating city built on the foundations of elitist American exceptionalism. His mission? It's to collect a girl imprisoned in the city and return her to the surface to wipe clean his extensive gambling debts. What he finds is that Columbia, while festive and ideal on the surface, is much darker underneath as it reveals a racist, overtly-religious, and insanely extremist side which can only lead to its own civil war and destruction.

3. What does the first sign in the lighthouse say?

From Quiz "Bioshock Infinite"

Answer: Of thy sins shall I wash thee.

While these signs may seem like biblical passages at first, they are actually foreshadowing later events in the game. "New Eden" refers to Columbia, "Sodom" refers to the world below, "Of thy sins shall I wash thee" refers to Booker's baptism, and "thine own land" refers to Columbia being Comstock's (Booker's) land.

4. When we first meet the game's protagonist, Booker DeWitt, he is being taken via boat by two people to a lighthouse in the middle of the ocean. During that journey, the couple instruct Booker to "Bring us the girl and..." do what?

From Quiz "Bioshock: Infinite" - Welcome To Columbia

Answer: wipe away the debt

The two people in the boat, who we later find out to be Robert and Rosalind Lutece, transport Booker to a strange lighthouse, seemingly, in the middle of nowhere. Once they have given him these instructions, they sail away and leave Booker to explore the lighthouse. And so begins the journey of "Bioshock: Infinite".

5. In the first "BioShock" game, Jack, the protagonist, begins the game with the Wrench. What is the first weapon of "BioShock 2"?

From Quiz BioShock 2

Answer: Drill

Playing the mysterious Subject Delta in this visit to Rapture, your first weapon is the characteristic drill attached to a Big Daddy's arm-- after all, you are a Big Daddy prototype. The Drill requires fuel in order to be charged and spun; you can also beat enemies with it using a strike attack. This strike can, in turn, be charged up by Gene Tonics (one, for example, gives it the power of frost). The drill is a fairly strong close-combat weapon. Keep in mind, however, that it's not effective against groups of enemies or foes with stronger armor.

6. How does Jack arrive at the lighthouse leading to Rapture?

From Quiz BioShock

Answer: Via a plane crash

The game's protagonist, Jack, begins the game swimming in the ocean having miraculously survived a plane crash. Luckily, he finds himself next to an island containing a lighthouse and he looks inside to find the entryway to the underwater city of Rapture. By taking a bathysphere down into the depths of the sea, Jack will begin a journey through the city (already in chaos and ruin), and attempt to make his way back to his life on the surface. Of course it's never that easy, is it?

7. At the very beginning of "Bioshock", Jack has an encounter with a spider splicer known as Rose. Why is her name Rose?

From Quiz Impossible "Bioshock 1 & 2"

Answer: She drops rose petals wherever she goes

If you watch closely, rose petals fall on the floor whenever Rose is near Jack during gameplay. Many say that the reason for this name is because of the roseate tumor on the head of 'Rosebud' Splicers... but Rose had her name shortened due to the rose petals she drops wherever she goes.

8. Who brought Subject Delta back to life?

From Quiz BioShock 2

Answer: Eleanor Lamb

When Eleanor was a Little Sister, her mother escaped from prison and forced Subject Delta to shoot himself in the head. Ten years later, Eleanor found a way to bring Delta back to life with the help of other Little Sisters.

9. What plasmid made you kill yourself during an early cutscene?

From Quiz BioShock 2

Answer: Hyponitze

You are forced to commit suicide in 1958 by Sofia Lamb, through the use of a mind-controlling plasmid. Also you do get electrocuted by Electro Bolt. This was done in part because Delta's Little Sister, Eleanor, is actually Lamb's daughter.

10. Whose idea, vision, and plan was it to build the city of Rapture?

From Quiz A Journey Through Rapture

Answer: Andrew Ryan

"Now you've met Andrew Ryan... The bloody king of Rapture." - Atlas Andrew Ryan built Rapture to get away from the governments which fed upon the work of the masses, and to quote him: "Where the artist would not fear the censor, where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality, where the great would not be constrained by the small".

11. What is the name of the character you play as?

From Quiz 'BioShock'

Answer: Jack

I made up the name Jake and no one has the first name of Ryan. Many people do not know the main character's name.

12. In the opening scene, on the tag on the present, the character's name is shown for the only time in the entire game. What is it?

From Quiz BioShock

Answer: Jack

It also signals the first use immortal saying "Would You Kindly...", and is one of the four cutscenes of the game. The package was given to the player as a 'present' from his 'parents'...

13. Who is the first person that contacts you on your radio, once you get out of the submarine?

From Quiz BioShocking

Answer: Atlas

Atlas was the one who called you and told you the monster in front of you was a splicer. Then he told you to go find something to fight back with; 'The Wrench'.

14. Where do you begin the game?

From Quiz BioShock

Answer: In the ocean

When the game begins in seems that you have survived a plane crash and are swimming in the ocean. At this point your only objective is to get to the underwater city.

15. Although you aren't given too much info on your character when you first start the game you do get his name. What is it?

From Quiz Bioshocked!

Answer: Jack

You see his name for a brief moment on a card attached to a present which has apparently been given to him by his parents. Jack reflects on his parents and the great things he is bound to accomplish right before his flight takes a nose dive in to the Atlantic ocean.

16. What are the main melee weapons for 'BioShock' and 'BioShock 2'?

From Quiz Mr. Bubbles

Answer: Wrench and Drill

In 'BioShock', when you first exit the Bathysphere, your ally, 'Atlas', tells you to find some sort of 'metal pipe' or a blunt object. Jack finds a wrench and uses it to bust through the debris blocking the doorway so he can leave the area and escape the Spider Splicer hunting him. This weapon has become almost iconic for the series. Subject Delta is equipped from the beginning of the game onward with his drill. Much like in 'BioShock', Subject Delta must burst through a coral covered door in order to progress. It is detachable and can spin when equipped. Sadly, it has less recognition than the wrench.

17. In what year was Booker DeWitt born?

From Quiz "Bioshock Infinite"

Answer: 1874

This is proven in the Hall of Heroes. There is a timeline of Columbia, which states that Comstock was born in 1874. Since Booker is Comstock, he was also born in that year.

18. What is the first weapon obtained in the game?

From Quiz BioShock

Answer: Wrench

Emerging from the first bathysphere of the game and wandering into the city of Rapture, Jack will locate this starting weapon, the only melee device found in the game. While at first glance this simple tool is a weak substitute for bullets, clever players with a sense of stealth and proper upgrades will find it to be a great asset when battling the insane citizens of Rapture. Certain tonics will allow Jack to hit harder, faster, and with special upgrades and you could find yourself quite comfortable with it in your hands.

19. Who looked after Eleanor while her mother, Sofia, was in prison?

From Quiz BioShock 2

Answer: Grace Holloway

When Sofia Lamb was arrested by Andrew Ryan, she asked her friend Grace Holloway to look after her daughter. However, Eleanor was later kidnapped by Stanley Poole and turned into a Little Sister.

20. What was your first weapon in "Bioshock 2"?

From Quiz BioShock 2

Answer: Drill

It comes on right away and runs on drill fuel and gas stations. If you noticed a goof in the flashback, he only has hands and no drill.

21. Who is the main character's father?

From Quiz 'BioShock'

Answer: Andrew

Atlas is Fontaine's alias; Fontaine is the last name of your enemy. Suchong is a Doctor.

22. The forests in Rapture are located in which location?

From Quiz BioShocking

Answer: Arcadia

Arcadia was the "living breathing" forests of Rapture as Atlas put it. It's the one you must help bring back to life, after poison destroyed it.

23. What is the name of the person guiding you through the first few levels?

From Quiz BioShock

Answer: Atlas

Some guy named Atlas contacts you through the radio. He wants you to help him find his wife and daughter. Although he later turns out to be Fontaine in the beginning you only know him as Atlas.

24. What comes next in this quote from the game? "Is a man not entitled to the..."

From Quiz Bioshocked!

Answer: sweat of his brow

This is part of Rapture's creator, Andrew Ryan's, pitch on what his city below the surface of the ocean can offer potential residents over the land dwellers above. Ryan offers a society in which no one is held back by the regulations of the American government, religion or communism.

25. NOT including Elite versions, how many types of Big Daddies are in 'BioShock' and 'BioShock 2'?

From Quiz Mr. Bubbles

Answer: Five

There are five known types of big daddies in 'BioShock' and 'BioShock 2'. Alpha Series, Bouncers, Rosies, Rumblers, and Lancers. Most Big Daddies have had their organs and various other body parts placed in the suit. Bouncers have an Elite version, with and without red accents in both games. These are the only Elite versions known. Lancers only appear in the 'BioShock 2' DLC. Alpha Series are the only exception to being surgically grafted into the Protector suits. They have permanent bonds to their Little Sister, and will either die or go crazy. Subject Delta encounters these insane Alpha Series Protectors in Fontaine Futuristics.

26. The setting of the game is dotted with tears in the space-time continuum. Who can open them?

From Quiz BioShock Infinite

Answer: Elizabeth

Once Booker finds Elizabeth in her celled-off residence in the giant statue of Monument Island, he discovers that she has the impossible ability to open tears in space and time, creating windows into parallel universes, some of which are in the future, some of which are in the past, and some of which are in the present though in alternate timelines. The ability becomes of some use to the duo later in the game as they make their way through a crumbling Columbia. Some of these tears lead to irreversible actions on their part, and some of these actions lead to casualties beyond their control.

27. What song is NOT heard somewhere in Columbia?

From Quiz "Bioshock Infinite"

Answer: Smells Like Teen Spirit

Many contemporary songs are heard throughout Columbia. Some are heard through tears, while others are heard as jazz/swing renditions on radios.

28. Bit of a toughie here... When Booker first arrives in the "city in the sky" and is making his way towards the Statue Of Columbia, amidst the parade, a barbershop quartet aboard an airship can be heard singing which classic Beach Boys song?

From Quiz "Bioshock: Infinite" - Welcome To Columbia

Answer: God Only Knows

God Only Knows was written by Brian Wilson and released on the Beach Boys seminal album "Pet Sounds" in 1966 - yet, "Bioshock: Infinite" is set in the year 1912, which is the players first inkling that things are not all they seem here. It is revealed later in the game that Jeremian Fink's brother, Albert, used the Lutece Tear to jump into the future to "steal" modern music and then passed it off as his own.

29. What's the last plasmid you get?

From Quiz BioShock 2

Answer: Summon Eleanor

Eleanor gives it to you during one of the last levels and Electro Bolt is the first plasmid. Cyclone Trap you get from one of the later levels. Winter Blast is on the third level.

30. Where and when did the Rapture Civil War erupt?

From Quiz A Journey Through Rapture

Answer: Kashmir Restaurant, 1959

It happened on New Year's Eve. Diane McClintock (Andrew Ryan's mistress) was celebrating in the restaurant alone when she witnessed an armed mob rush in, shooting everyone in their sight. Her personal Audio Log sheds light onto this incident. The Splicers still wear the masks from that particular day, and do so to hide their deformed faces.
