What can you do in combat in Raseir in the remake that you can't do in the original game?

From Quiz ""Quest For Glory 2" Original and AGDI"

Quest for Glory II: Trial by Fire Trivia Questions

1. Since you've come straight from Spielburg in "Quest for Glory 1", you still hold only Spielburgian currency. You'll need to exchange your money into Shapeirian Dinars. What is the exchange rate you should expect?

From Quiz
"Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Plot Elementals 1

Answer: Between 1 and 2 Gold Coins per Dinar

The moneychanger will give you a bad rate if you exchange all your Gold Coins at once. If you're patient enough, you could exchange 1 Gold Coin at a time, gaining 1 Dinar per Gold Coin. You could exchange 10 at a time for decent rates with considerably less effort. If you save the energy and exchange it all at once, you'll only get one dinar for every 2 Gold Coins you exchange! However, since money is abundant in this game, it shouldn't be too much of a problem making up for the short-change. Still, the early portion of the game can be a bit tight.

2. She is the wife of the owner of the Katta's Tail Inn. Every few nights, she will perform the dance of fertility in a skimpy outfit. Who is this enticing feline?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Character Names

Answer: Shema

Shema is a Katta, a type of humanoid cat. You rescued her along with her husband and the merchant Abdulla from Spielburg. She will bring your food every morning and every evening if you wish it, and every few evenings she will dance at the inn. Make sure to attend, so you don't offend the Kattas.

3. Since we last met him in Spielburg, our hero has taken a long ride on a magical carpet. He reaches the magnificent desert city of Shapeir. What is the name of this new and exotic kingdom?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Shapeir and Raseir

Answer: Shapeir

In "Quest for Glory 1", after defeating the Brigands of Spielburg Valley, our hero recovers a magical rug belonging to Abdulla Doo, a merchant robbed by the Brigands. Abdulla and his two friends, the cat-like Shameen and Shema, ask you to come back with them to their home land of Shapeir, and help to save the kingdom from a growing evil. "Quest for Glory 2" takes place in a large Arabian-style city called Shapeir, which is in the magnificent kingdom of... Shapeir. Parts of the game involve wandering into the vast deserts that stretch out around the city.

4. In the remake, if you ask Shameen about the money changer, what happens?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 2" Original and AGDI

Answer: The game displays English translations for the street names

If you ask Shameen about the moneychanger, the street names will still be displayed in Arabic, but right below that will be the English translations in parentheses. It's convenient for those of us who aren't fluent in Arabic.

5. Ugarte, one of Ferrari's men, will be arrested for smuggling on the morning after your arrival. What does Ugarte's smuggle?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Plot Elementals 2

Answer: Water

The fountain of Shapeir is its heart and source - no great city could thrive without it. Raseir used to be Shapeir's sister city, but now Raseir's fountain has run dry, and life within it has certainly withered away. The Emir's men sell water to the Blue Parrot Inn, but it is extremely expensive. Ugarte's prices are a bit cheaper, but not by much. Khaveen, captain of the Raseirian guard, knows about Ugarte's operation. He's only arresting Ugarte now as a show of force to try and discourage you from any attempts to meddle in the affairs of Raseir's new master.

6. He runs a souvenir stall just outside the Katta's Tail Inn. He sells a lot of useless junk, but will also sell you a map of the city, as well as a compass. He is modeled after one of the Marx Brothers. Who is this relentless merchant?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Character Names

Answer: Ali Chica

The map of Shapeir is an extremely important item, as it allows you to instantly teleport around the city without having to manually walk all the twisting little streets. To get the map you will first have to navigate manually to the moneychanger. Ali Chica's stall will be burned to the ground early in the game, so make sure you buy everything you need before then.

7. How much does a single mana pill cost?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Magic and Wit

Answer: 5 Dinars

Mana pills are very expensive compared to Health and Vigor. A set of 3 will cost 15 Dinars. In the VGA remake you can haggle this price down to 9 Dinars per 3 pills. This means that a Magic User must either learn to conserve spells (to cut down on Mana Pill use), or learn to fight effectively (and thus earn more money). Fortunately, you will periodically receive rewards for completing main quest goals, which will seriously help your financial situation. But it is still recommended to practice your combat spellcasting.

8. He is the local apothecary, and will take care of your various healing needs. He can also mix up Dispel Potions, which are extremely important for finishing the game. Who is the master of the flame?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Character Names

Answer: Harik

You will make many visits to Harik's store. Most importantly, whenever you acquire monster parts from combat in the desert, you'll want to sell it here for lots of cash. Harik will also provide you with a few items you might need to finish your quest. Thieves will DEFINITELY want to inquire about his inventory, as he sells an item that makes their work so much easier.

9. Brigands are probably the easiest encounter in the desert. They are a bit stronger than Jackalmen, but there's one key difference that makes Jackelmen more dangerous. What makes Jackalmen a greater danger than Brigands?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Desert and Monsters

Answer: Jackalmen attack in groups

Groups of Jackalmen can be difficult to defeat if you're not ready for them. A single Jackalman is easy to defeat, but when you have to go through five of them one-by-one, a battle can turn long and risky. Fortunately, they each carry a nice sum of money, so the reward is proportionally large. Jackalmen also only appear during the night, while Brigands dominate the daytime. In the new VGA version of the game, Jackalmen are even harder to defeat - they can flank you and attack simultaneously. You'll have to learn to kick them away to keep from being surrounded.

10. In the original game, in WIT Erana looks like whom?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 2" Original and AGDI

Answer: Genesta

Erana was originally supposed to be, and look like, The "Quest For Glory" equivalent of Genesta from "King's Quest 4." Interestingly, looking at the portrait of Erana in the original game reveals that the hero actually met Genesta. However, Erana's appearance varied in future games. AGD Interactive based their portrait of Erana on "Quest For Glory 4." Perhaps Genesta would look like that if she ever appeared in any VGA "King's Quest" games.

11. Have you been paying attention? How is the thief sign performed?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Snakes and Daggers

Answer: Thumb on nose, palm stretched out, other hand rubs belly.

The thief sign is extremely important. It identifies you as a thief, which means it can save you from being robbed (or killed) by other thieves. Of course, you'd better watch out - if you make it to the wrong person, they may arrest or assault you for being a thief, if they can recognize the sign. The full description is: One thumb on your nose, hand stretched out perpendicular to your face, fingers wiggling. Eyes are on your thumb, while your other hand rubs your belly. This is very bizarre (try it), and some of the reaction you might get from characters who think you're sick or insane can be hilarious.

12. What's hidden at the north edge of the city?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Magic and Wit

Answer: WIT & W.I.T & W.I.T.

The Wizards' Institute of Technocery is sort of like a "Wizards' Guild". All the most powerful wizards in the world are members, even the evil or silly ones. You'll be wanting to join this club, although not for the reasons they'd want you to.

13. There's a Katta musician sitting outside the inn on most days, charming a snake with his flute. His name is Sitar, but what is the name of his snake?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Character Names

Answer: Hissa

If you're a fighter, you should give Sitar a bit of money each time you see him. It may help raise your "Honor" score, which will be important to you if you wish to become a Paladin by the end of the game. The only way to discover the snake's name is by asking the flower merchant sitting across from him. It's not a plot element though - you don't really need to interact with the musician or his snake at all if you don't want to.

14. Amongst the shops in the central plaza you'll find Harik the Apothecary. He serves largely the same purpose as the Healer did in "Quest for Glory 1". However, instead of potions, he sells pills. How many different kinds of pills does he sell?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Shapeir and Raseir

Answer: Four

Harik sells the regular "Health-Vigor-Magic" variety, but will also sell poison antidote pills. These will help protect you if you face scorpions in the desert. Their poison could easily kill you, so you'll want to carry a few antidote pills. Pills cost a pretty penny, but fortunately there is an overabundance of money to be made in Shapeir and the deserts around it, so you'll probably be able to buy a great amount of pills by the time the game is over. Also, it is possible to carry pills into the next game in the series, which will save you a LOT of money on potions in "Quest for Glory 3". You don't carry over your money, so consider investing it before leaving Shapeir in the later part of the game.

15. In the remake, in WIT who can you choose as your sponsor that you couldn't choose in the original version (although making this choice will get you killed)?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 2" Original and AGDI

Answer: Katrina

In WIT, there is a portrait that is entirely black and is not a portrait of a person. This is Katrina, Ad Avis's dark master who was expelled from WIT for trying to summon powerful dark creatures into Gloriana. The original version of this game does not say this, as the Coles did not want you to know that yet. The remake came out after all the games had been out for years, so there was no reason for AGD Interactive to hide it. If you choose Katrina as your sponsor, the wizards will scold you and tell you about her, and then they'll ask if you abide by your decision. If you say "yes," they teleport you to Mordavia so that you an seek her yourself. Unfortunately, they teleport you to a little island in the middle of the swamp. If you're a wizard, "Quest For Glory 4" makes you use the Glide spell to get through the swamp. Since you don't have that yet, you're stuck and the game ends.

16. How many characters in total will respond favourably to the Thief Sign in "Quest for Glory 2"?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Snakes and Daggers

Answer: 2 & Two

Only those who are willing to give you employment as a thief will respond favourably. In Shapeir, this is Dinarzad the moneychanger. In Raseir it will be Signor Ferrari. Also, Rakeesh the Liontaur will recognize the thief sign, but he is a righteous Paladin and will do nothing except warn you not to use the thief sign if you don't want any trouble (how nice of him). Also, whatever you do, don't show the sign to Issur the weaponsmith!

17. Who will sponsor you through the Wizards' test?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Magic and Wit

Answer: Erasmus of Spielburg

Unfortunately, no one else is willing to, or available, so you'll have to settle for Erasmus. Still, the one good thing about Erasmus is that he understand how much more important it is to go out to the world and apply your knowledge of magic to bring a change in people's lives, rather than just sitting in a stuffy basement and experimenting. Therefore, Erasmus will give you what you came to WIT to seek.

18. You'll be arrested and taken to the palace dungeons. You are not the only prisoner here - you'll meet Sharaf, a Katta resident of Raseir. He is related to Shema, of the Katta's Tail Inn in Shapeir. What is the relationship between Shema and Sharaf?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Plot Elementals 2

Answer: Cousins

Paying close attention to details helps - conversations with characters aren't just for flavour, they can offer a lot of information that may come in handy much later (not just for solving pesky quizzes like this one!). In fact, if you listen to Shema's story about Sharaf, and question her about it, later mentioning her name can convince Sharaf that you are his friend. Of course, if you have the Sapphire Pin, you don't need that information. But it's just an example of how actually paying attention can help overcome difficulties in this game!

19. After listening to Omar read poetry at the Fountain Plaza, you may return to find that he has dropped a purse of some kind. What does the purse contain?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Fighters and Paladins

Answer: It doesn't matter - you should return it

This should be a no-brainer: As fighters are the most likely candidates to become Paladins (through sheer necessity, if nothing else), you should not pass that opportunity up, which means you should not keep the purse! Return it to Omar the next time you see him for extra Honor and Paladin points. Fail to return the purse, and you forfeit all chances for Paladinhood.

20. This little gnome is sitting on a cloud in a shop filled with many strange and wondrous contraptions, some of which definitely do not belong in a fantasy setting. Who is master of the air?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Character Names

Answer: Keapon Laffin

Keapon Laffin runs the magic shop in Shapeir. He will sell two new kinds of spells (and possibly also other spells you may have missed during your adventure in Spielburg). Any magic user should pay him an immediate visit upon arrival in the city. Thieves may also find an important item here that will make their adventure a lot easier. In the new VGA remake of the game, Keapon Laffin will play an interesting game with you, allowing you to practice spellcasting without the risk of death by monsters in the desert. The main reward you'll get from this is the ability to cast a more powerful version of one of your spells.

21. What adorns the front of the weaponsmith's store, in the western plaza of the city?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Shapeir and Raseir

Answer: Bellows

The weaponsmith has a rather limited selection of items. He'll sell a fine sword, regular daggers, and chainmail armor (though if you're a fighter, you may already have one). Issur, as is his name, is very macho, and will not treat you with respect until you prove your masculinity (you too, girls) by beating him in an arm-wrestling competition. You'd have to be pretty strong for that. The bellows hanging over his store front will become very important later in the game.

22. In the remake, what can be found in the southwestern part of town that wasn't in the original game?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 2" Original and AGDI

Answer: Saurus Repair Shop

This is an Easter egg that was supposed to be in the original game, but was cut because there wasn't enough disc space. You can't actually do anything here, it's just for laughs and it has pretty good music.

23. Aside from one extra break-in available in the VGA remake, how many different break-in jobs can you perform in the city of Shapeir? (Remember, if you play the VGA remake, deduct 1).

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Snakes and Daggers

Answer: Two

Strangely, the first job is harder than the second, but the third (available only in the VGA remake) is considerably harder than either of these. In addition, you will be given another break-in job once you get to Raseir, assuming you know who to talk to (the choices are pretty limited).

24. What reward will you win for beating the weaponsmith at arm-wrestling?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Fighters and Paladins

Answer: Issur's respect

This is a bit of a trick question, because Issur doesn't actually give you anything for defeating him. Once you've beaten him, you'd have to ask for the bellows at the right time if you wish to acquire them (the fine metal shield does not exist). If your fighter has magical skills, he might be able to get the bellows without arm-wrestling Issur at all. But then again, you're as strong as an ox, so just go for it. The bellows will also assist you in capturing the Air Elemental. Arm-wrestling is tough, and requires that you have a high Strength score. Don't forget, you'll actually have to ask for the bellows at the proper time.

25. Who will give you your reward for defeating the Fire Elemental?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Plot Elementals 1

Answer: Rakeesh

Rakeesh the Liontaur is a Paladin, and was once a king of his people. He is a good friend of the Sultan, and goes to visit him often. He will bring you the reward from the Sultan, so remember to visit the Adventurer's Guild on day 7. You will receive 50 Dinars for each elemental you defeat. This is enough to buy 15 healing pills! As I said, money comes easy in this game. Still, if you're not too good at combat, you could burn through 15 healing pills in a couple of days...

26. In the remake, in the Guild Hall, you can bring to Uhura the severed head of what creature?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 2" Original and AGDI

Answer: Ghoul

After you ask Uhura about Terrorsaurus, she will tell you that a Terrorsaurus tried to invade Shapeir a few weeks ago, but Rakeesh killed it and now its head is on the wall. After you see this message, you can kill a Ghoul, and if its head becomes disconnected from the rest of its body, you can bring it to Uhura. Then, the next time you enter the Guild Hall, the ghoul's head will be on the wall and the plaque will read "Ghoul slain by (insert hero name here)."

27. The air elemental is a sentient tornado, and it is wreaking havoc near the palace gates. Elements have certain weaknesses against each other. Which element defeats air?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Plot Elementals 1

Answer: Earth

And that's exactly what you'll want to acquire. Sounds pretty simple, right? Just pick up a handful of dirt! But... we're in Shapeir, which is built on sand and rock. Fortunately, there are a couple of people in the city who have a little bit of dirt available. Go get it.

28. Whereever this man goes, his trusty translator goes with him. Who is this enigmatic weaver of prophecies?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Character Names

Answer: Omar

Omar the poet speaks only in rhymes and riddles. For the benefit of the less-poetically-minded, he has a translator along with him to translate everything he says. Omar's songs will revolve mostly around your role in freeing the land from the evil that besets it. Omar will serve as one of your liaisons to the Sultan. As such, he will occasionally reward you for defeating evil influence in the city. You'll want to attend his readings at the inn whenever they occur (every few nights). On one occasion, you will find a purse that Omar dropped. If you're a fighter, make sure you return the purse intact (and don't take any money!). This will help raise your "Honor" score.

29. What extra item can the thief steal from the metalworker's house in the remake?

From Quiz "Quest For Glory 2" Original and AGDI

Answer: Dagger

There is a container in the remake that if you search it enough times, you will find a dagger. It's not an ordinary dagger though, so you can't fight with it or throw it at anyone. It's a fine dagger. All you can do with it is sell it to Dinarzad. Or you can show it to the guard who lives at that house and get yourself killed.

30. The Magic Rope is required for more than robbery. How many times will you have to use the Magic Rope in "Quest for Glory 2" (not counting the VGA remake's extra break-in)?

From Quiz "Quest for Glory 2" (PC) - Snakes and Daggers

Answer: Six

This includes the theft of the Bellows, acquiring a Griffin Feather, the break-in at Raseir, the Chamber of Elementals, and twice at the Palace of Raseir. You can use the rope for training your "Climbing" skill, but it has a limited number of uses so you'd better avoid that.
