Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Since you've come straight from Spielburg in "Quest for Glory 1", you still hold only Spielburgian currency. You'll need to exchange your money into Shapeirian Dinars. What is the exchange rate you should expect?

Answer: Between 1 and 2 Gold Coins per Dinar

The moneychanger will give you a bad rate if you exchange all your Gold Coins at once. If you're patient enough, you could exchange 1 Gold Coin at a time, gaining 1 Dinar per Gold Coin. You could exchange 10 at a time for decent rates with considerably less effort. If you save the energy and exchange it all at once, you'll only get one dinar for every 2 Gold Coins you exchange! However, since money is abundant in this game, it shouldn't be too much of a problem making up for the short-change. Still, the early portion of the game can be a bit tight.
2. Four elements dominate the game - Fire, Water, Earth and Air. Each has its own characteristics and weaknesses. There are places in the city of Shapeir that are strongly influenced by one element. Which of the following locations in the city is most associated with the element of Air?

Answer: The Magic Shop

Keapon Laffin, proprietor of the magic shop, is a wizard specializing in the elemental magic of Air. Heck, he flies around on a could!

As far as the other locations go, the local Apothecary is a disciple of fire, while Aziza is a water-sorceress. The element of Earth is not represented by any specific character, but the city itself, and its streets in particular, are strong with earth magic.
3. You will have a couple of days to prepare yourself before the first calamity strikes the city. You leave the Katta's Tail Inn at dawn, only o find an Elemental of Fire raging through the gate plaza. On what day will this occur?

Answer: Day 5

Unlike "Quest for Glory 1", the structure of events in this game is rather rigid. Certain events will occur on certain days, and you must be ready for them when they do.

The fire elemental is dangerous - don't go near it or you could die!
4. If you're going to defeat Elementals, you're going to have to learn their weaknesses. There is only one person in the city who can teach you this!

Answer: Aziza

Aziza is a sorceress and a seer. She is well-versed in the ways of elemental magic, as she practices them herself! To find her house, you'll need to wander the city streets and alleyways. You'll know her door when you find it. Be ready to answer some tough questions!

If you think you're stuck trying to solve some problem, it's possible that you need to visit Aziza and get her opinion.
5. Each element has a weakness to another element, and so do the dangerous elementals you'll meet. The weakness of a Fire Elemental is water, but that knowledge won't help you yet. First, you must find a way to lure the Fire Elemental to a place where it has nothing to burn. Which item will help you do this?

Answer: Incense

Fire Elementals thrive upon consumption. They are only strong as long as there's something to burn. By spilling a line of incense on the floor and out to the city streets, you can draw the fire elemental out of the Plaza and be able to weaken it with water. However, you will still need to find something to help you contain the elemental once it is weakened...
6. Who will give you your reward for defeating the Fire Elemental?

Answer: Rakeesh

Rakeesh the Liontaur is a Paladin, and was once a king of his people. He is a good friend of the Sultan, and goes to visit him often. He will bring you the reward from the Sultan, so remember to visit the Adventurer's Guild on day 7.

You will receive 50 Dinars for each elemental you defeat. This is enough to buy 15 healing pills! As I said, money comes easy in this game. Still, if you're not too good at combat, you could burn through 15 healing pills in a couple of days...
7. The air elemental is a sentient tornado, and it is wreaking havoc near the palace gates. Elements have certain weaknesses against each other. Which element defeats air?

Answer: Earth

And that's exactly what you'll want to acquire. Sounds pretty simple, right? Just pick up a handful of dirt! But... we're in Shapeir, which is built on sand and rock. Fortunately, there are a couple of people in the city who have a little bit of dirt available. Go get it.
8. Who will give you the reward for defeating the Air Elemental?

Answer: Omar

Omar the poet has readings at the Katta's Tail Inn every few days. Make sure you go back to the inn at night every day, just to make sure you don't miss it. By now, 50 Dinars should be chump change though. By day 11 you can probably slay whole hordes of jackalmen and brigands every day, earning you much more than this.
9. The Earth Elemental is a tough opponent - literally! He's made of a pile of stones, and won't go down easy. First of course, you'll have to track him down, because he tends to move around a lot. Which of the following locations is one of the places where you'll find the Earth Elemental hiding?

Answer: The city streets

A bit of a trick question, because in fact, the Earth Elemental only moves about the many streets. It doesn't really take long to track it down, but you'll quickly be wishing you hadn't! This one is a tough cookie, and no normal weapons can hurt it. You'll need fire to defeat it.
10. There is a lonely tree growing in the desert, east of the city. It wasn't always a tree - it used to be a young woman, a healer, who sought to escape a band of Brigands. There's a whole process of things you must do if you're going to win her trust. Which of these is one of them?

Answer: Hug her

Does the term "hug a tree" ring any bells? But before you can hug her, you'll also need to give her two gifts. In return, she'll reward you with a powerful spell ingredient. You'll also need to know her name to gain her trust... dang, what is her name?
11. The Whirling Dervish will send you on a quest to find a caged animal out in the desert. This weird beast is yet another creature which isn't what it seems (there are many in this game). It is under the influence of a magical spell, and you will need to feed it a Dispel Potion. Acquiring such a potion is complicated, and requires three separate ingredients. Which of these is the final ingredient you must add to the potion right before using it?

Answer: Hair from the Beast

After you dispel the creature, you'll be wondering why you did so. Still, you will gain valuable information about the events that are soon to come.
12. The last elemental you will face is the enchanting Water Elemental, who attacks the city fountain, slowly sucking it dry. To weaken the Water Elemental, you will have to re-awaken one or more of the elementals captured previously in the game. Which elemental(s) will help you in this dilemma?

Answer: Air Elemental

Water subsists on attraction (just take a look at Aziza the Water Sorceress!). It is sucking the fountain dry, and could subsequently kill the entire city. The air elemental will drive the water elemental out of the fountain, allowing you to capture it!
13. Once weakened, the elemental of Water can be captured. You'll have to suck it into a container of some sort. Which item do you require, and where is it located?

Answer: Waterskin, you start the game with one

The Bellows are hanging over the front door of the Weaponsmith's shop, and are the container you need to use to capture the Air Elemental, much earlier in the game. Depending on your character class, you would have to find a unique way to acquire them. Fighters will need to earn Issur's respect, while magic-users and thieves need to be here after dark, hint-hint.

The Waterskin is a simple, no-frills bag of water made from animal skin. You have one when you begin the game, and you can (and should) buy more at the Fighters' Plaza. This is a very important item and you must keep it filled! Wandering out into the desert without water is suicide! So by the time you meet the water elemental, you'll be glad to use one to capture it.

So the captured earth elemental has already been used, as a gift to the Lonely Tree. The captured air elemental has just been released to weaken the Water Elemental. But the captured Water and Fire elementals remain, and are extremely important items! They will be required in later parts of the game.
14. Sashanan the Jeweler will give you a precious gift as reward for defeating all four elementals. It is a Sapphire Pin, but its value is not immediately apparent. What is the secret of the pin?

Answer: It is only visible to friends

The Katta are very honorable, and have treated you as their friend from your very first day in Shapeir. They believe you are a great hero, which basically you are, and hope that you can deliver their people from the peril that has gripped Raseir, homeland of the Katta race.

As such, once they see for their own eyes that you have both the power and will to help them, they will give you a great and pricely gift - the gift of friendship. The pin's magic renders it invisible to anyone but your friends. Therefore, if you are ever searched and your items confiscated, the ring will evade your foes. And also, you could show that pin to a friend to identify yourself. This knowledge may come in handy later in the game. It may indeed save your life.
15. After defeating the Water Elemental, it is time to go to the city of Raseir, to release it from the evil that has gripped it. As it is many weeks away, you would need to join a caravan leaving for the city. On which day does the caravan leave Shapeir?

Answer: Day 17

At dawn on Day 17 you will join the caravan heading for Raseir. By this time, you should make sure you are prepared for the challenges that await you there. Make sure you buy lots of the pills you need and the equipment you might require, and have good skill scores too. You will not have the chance to do much in Raseir except fight monsters in the desert to raise your skills, and that's always dangerous.

Fighters should make sure their honor's above 75 at this point, if they want a chance to become Paladins.
Magic-Users should buy all the spells they can, and find the 11th spell which might be elusive.
Thieves are going to need to stock up on daggers, for sure.
