Shadow Force-- Giratina's signature move-- is a two move attack in "Pokémon". Giratina would vanish from the battlefield on the first turn, and reappear and strike the enemy on the second. Users of any Protect-variant move would see their moves fail, so the only ways to avoid direct damage would be to either switch into a Normal type Pokémon, use a charge move involving your Pokémon disappearing, or using the move Substitute. This is reflected in Giratina's spirit in this game.

R.O.B., Banjo, and K. Rool each have their down throws, being able to temporary ground opponents allowing them for follow-ups with powerful attacks. Only R.O.B. and K. Rool also have reflecting moves and Banjo & Kazooie's Wonderwing is the one move that makes them completely invincible to attacks.

Even if you are, the Ninten and Paula spirits are probably still better for you: offering the same bonus to PSI attacks while having better typings and stats. Even the M. Bison spirit, which has similar stats and the same support spirit slots, would probably be better as a Grab type spirit.

In the World of Light campaign, any spirits you defeat are immediately acquired after the battle. If, however, you opted to hunt spirits on the Spirit Board, you would need to win the battle of said spirit, and then enter a Free the Spirit mode, where you essentially 'shoot' the fighter representing the spirit you just defeated. Shooting a fighter which was representing a Novice or Ace spirit is usually pretty easy, since the shield's rotations are very slow, and the gap is pretty large. Ace spirits are harder, while Legendary Spirits can be incredibly hard to successfully hit. Shield Spacers and Sluggish Shields can be used to help put the odds more in your favor, and can sometimes be totally necessary to be successful.

The Ice Climbers are the most famous 2-in-1 fighter in the series and, naturally, their Classic Mode route involves fighting other famous duos in video games such as Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong and Ryu and Ken. Lugia is an Ace ranked, Grab type spirit which also gives it user bonus Water damage. This is an incredibly bizarre design choice to make Lugia this way for a few reasons. First, Lugia's fellow cover legendary, Ho-Oh, is a Legendary spirit despite being about on-par with Lugia in the "Pokémon" world. Second, with Lugia's deific defenses still causing it to be nigh unbreakable in the world of "Pokémon", the Shield type would've seemed more sensible than the Grab type it ended up getting. Speaking of which, Lugia's spirit actually has more Offense than Defense, which makes absolutely no sense considering Lugia's defenses are significantly higher than it's below-average Attack stats in "Pokémon" games.

Pauline is a legendary spirit, granting an amazing benefit of healing players who normal-shield attacks. There are numerous spirits which grants this bonus if the player perfect shields, but with perfect shielding being a lot harder in this game, Pauline provides the player with that extra cushion.

In "Street Fighter", jumps are much lower than in a typical Smash game, and they are stamina based, contrasted to typical Smash games which are not. Therefore, whenever you try to fight a "Street Fighter" spirit, such as Guile, Akuma or Chun-Li, you will find that conditions are always entailing lower jump power and a stamina battle. In some cases, such as against the Dan or Akuma spirits, there is a third condition, but this can vary between "Street Fighter" spirits.

Sean Schemmel, the most notable voice of anime icon Goku, voices Lucario in the series (as well in the "Pokemon" series). Lucario has many similar traits to Goku such as his aura being a reference to Ki. Even his Final Smash has him performing Aura Storm, which is very similar to the Kamehameha.
