Super Smash Brothers Games Trivia Questions

1. How many playable characters are there in the original game?

From Quiz
"Super Smash Bros.": Fight to the Finish!

Answer: Twelve

They are Yoshi, Mario, Link, Samus, Captain Falcon, Donkey Kong, Ness, Kirby, Luigi, Jigglypuff, Pikachu, and Fox. They have been fighting since the beginning.

2. How many matches does it take to unlock Ness in "Brawl"?

From Quiz Characters in the "Super Smash Bros." Series

Answer: Five

Ness can use PK Crush, PK Thunder, PK Fire, and the PSI Magnet. His Final Smash is PK Starstorm. Ness made his debut in 1994 in "Earthbound".

3. In this game, each character has only one taunt. What is this game?

From Quiz "Melee" and "Brawl": What's the Difference?

Answer: "Melee"

You use the D-Pad to do these taunts (in "Melee" you press up on the d-pad to taunt). Some of those taunts, like Marth's up-taunt, which is also his down-taunt (in "Brawl"), are still in the game.

4. Which stage in "Super Smash Bros." (N64) features POW blocks?

From Quiz Stages in the "Super Smash Bros." Games

Answer: Mushroom Kingdom

This stage was also in "Melee" though it didn't feature the POW Blocks. The stage itself was the only one in the N64 version in which you could 'walk' offstage. Oh, and in case you were wondering, Falcon Foothills was just a name I made up.

5. What date was this CD recorded?

From Quiz Smashing...Live!

Answer: August 27th, 2002

The album "Smashing...Live!" was recorded in August. The rest of the dates are made up.

6. "I was a hidden 'Smash Brother' in the N64 game, and in "Super Smash Bros. Melee", I was one of the default characters. Using my baseball bat and yo-yo in Smash-A attacks, my opponents will never see what's coming. Which 'Smash Brother' am I?"

From Quiz I Was a 'Smash Brother'

Answer: Ness

Ness, from the popular SNES game "Earthbound" was one of the four hidden characters in the game "Super Smash Bros.", but unlike Jigglypuff and Luigi, he became playable in "Super Smash Bros. Melee". This character uses his powerful PSI moves (like PK Fire and PK Thunder) to inflict damage on opponents with the B-button, and he has the ability to heal himself with down-B when others use projectiles or certain powers against him (eg. Pikachu's Thunder attack or Fox's gun).

7. Which character that once needed to be unlocked (in "Super Smash Bros.") still needs to be unlocked the same way in "Super Smash Bros. Melee"?

From Quiz Super Smashing Differences

Answer: Jigglypuff

There are only four unlockable characters in the original "Super Smash Bros.", but there is more than triple the amount of unlockable characters in the sequel. To get Jigglypuff in both games, you simply need to beat the one player mode without losing all of your lives. None of the unlockable characters in "Super Smash Bros. Melee" (excluding Jigglypuff and Luigi) were in the previous game. Although Jigglypuff is often referred to as a weak character (which is further proven by the fact that she's so easy to unlock), some of her moves, like Rest, are best used in event matches; especially the final event.

8. "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate" made its debut on which console?

From Quiz "Super Smash Bros.": 20 Years and Still Fighting

Answer: Switch

In this game, every fighter from the first four games return along with some new fighters including Inkling, Simon, Ridley, and Ken. More battles, more fun.

9. An interesting fact was discovered at this tournament in a doubles set. Apparently, King Dedede's neutral B (Inhale) interacts with Cloud's Finishing Touch in a curious manner. What happens?

From Quiz Shine 2017: "Super Smash Bros 4" Major

Answer: It lessens the knockback from Finishing Touch significantly

There is little in the manner of explanation as to why this happens, but the ability to do this is exclusive to King Dedede (Kirby can't do this with his own Inhale, nor can anyone else with a command grab do this). This was an extremely interesting thing to discover. For a long time now, Dedede has been thought to be amongst the worst choices for a Doubles character. However, through this discovery, Dedede's prospects seem to certainly be on the rise, especially given that Cloud is universally accepted to be one of the best character to use in doubles.

10. Which word completes this following quote? "5, 4, 3, 2, 1... _____"

From Quiz "Super Smash Bros.": Fight to the Finish!

Answer: Time!

This is said by the announcer when there is only five seconds left in a timed match. That means it's your last chance to score a KO, so do it quickly.

11. In what level of The Subspace Emissary does Luigi join your team?

From Quiz Characters in the "Super Smash Bros." Series

Answer: Subspace

Luigi can do the Luigi Cyclone, Super Jump Punch, Green Missile, Fireball, and even has a taunt that (while it only does 2% damage) is an amazing attack. Since Luigi is always number two to Mario he takes twenty-two matches to unlock, is twenty-second in sound test, and his crowd chant only consists of two people!

12. In "Super Smash Bros.", players can fight Master Hand at the end of the single player adventure. What is the name of the second hand in "Super Smash Bros. Melee"?

From Quiz Super Smashing Differences

Answer: Crazy Hand

Crazy Hand is an odd character. Although you normally just fight Master Hand during Classic 1-P Mode of "Super Smash Bros. Melee" (or 1-P Mode of "Super Smash Bros."), Crazy Hand may also make an appearance if you are at a high enough difficulty. Crazy Hand has a few different moves, but a few can also be used in conjunction with Master Hand. Both of these appendages appeared in the Game Boy Advance game "Kirby and the Amazing Mirror" as bosses. Both characters can also be played against in the penultimate Event Match of "Super Smash Bros. Melee".

13. What was the most commonly used character out of every event in the entire tournament?

From Quiz Shine 2017: "Super Smash Bros 4" Major

Answer: Cloud

Cloud was borderline oppressive in Shine and was a very common sight indeed. The next most common characters in order were Bayonetta, Sheik, Lucina, and Mario. The most notable users of Cloud would be Tweek, who made it all the way to Singles Grand Finals, Komorikiri, and MK Leo, who won Doubles altogether. It's not hard to see why either, as Cloud is widely regarded as one of the easiest characters to use effectively at a professional level.

14. What is the name of the "Metroid" track on the album?

From Quiz Smashing...Live!

Answer: Depths of Brinstar

The "Depths of Brinstar" track consisted of the background music from the two stages Brinstar Depths and Planet Zebes.

15. When you play "Super Smash Bros. Melee" for the first time, you'll have fourteen playable characters. How many characters are initially available in "Super Smash Bros."?

From Quiz Super Smashing Differences

Answer: Eight

The eight starting characters are Donkey Kong, Mario, Fox, Kirby, Link, Pikachu, Samus, and Yoshi. All of these characters are also available when you first begin "Super Smash Bros. Melee". Two secret characters in the first game become original characters in the sequel (Ness and Captain Falcon), and Bowser, Princess Peach, Zelda, and Ice Climbers were added to the default gang.

16. In "Melee," where in "Star Fox 64" do you hear Fox's victory theme?

From Quiz Characters in the "Super Smash Bros." Series

Answer: Mission Accomplished

In "Star Fox 64," when a level is a mission accomplished, the same music would play. In some cases if the mission was only complete, the same song would play.

17. Which game has an Adventure Mode called "The Subspace Emissary"?

From Quiz "Melee" and "Brawl": What's the Difference?

Answer: "Brawl"

This mode has a lot more depth than the Adventure Mode in "Melee". It shows all characters in a story format and lets you play all characters during one game, rather than repeating it over and over like in "Melee".

18. "I'm was probably the most mysterious of the bunch, often bringing bacon and numbered signs onto the playing field. Either you could obtain me after 1,000 vs. matches, or you could have gotten every character first. Which 'Smash Brother' was I?"

From Quiz I Was a 'Smash Brother'

Answer: Mr. Game and Watch

Either way, Mr. Game and Watch is probably going to be the last character you obtain in "Super Smash Bros. Melee". Either you can go through an endless thousand vs. matches, or you can get all twenty-four characters before him and beat the break the targets games with a combined total of 12 minutes. Mr. Game and Watch is from the handheld Game and Watch system, and you can unlock both a Game and Watch level and the character himself.

19. What happens when the timer hits zero during a battle in "Ultimate"?

From Quiz "Super Smash Bros.": 20 Years and Still Fighting

Answer: The match is officially over

All matches in the "Super Smash Bros." series have a time limit and the winner is the fighter that scores the most points once time is up. If there's a tie, then it will go to Sudden Death.

20. Who would end up going on to win Shine Wii U Singles?

From Quiz Shine 2017: "Super Smash Bros 4" Major

Answer: TSM ZeRo

ZeRo would ultimately defeat Tweek 3-1, despite dropping Game 1. It was a truly inspiring run by ZeRo, as he went through the entire tournament without losing a single set. In fact, he was near perfect throughout the tournament, losing only three total games.

21. Which game has both the Master Hand and the Crazy Hand?

From Quiz "Melee" and "Brawl": What's the Difference?

Answer: Both

It may be confusing, but "Melee" has the Crazy Hand and the Master Hand together in Event 50. You would have to face several challenging events to unlock this. "Brawl" has them separated in Boss Battles, the only mode in which you can fight them both.

22. In 2003, which magazine gave away the album as a bonus for subscribing it?

From Quiz Smashing...Live!

Answer: Nintendo Power

"The British Nintendo Offical Magazine" also gave the CD as a free gift. The CD is only set for sale in Japan.

23. "Due to my appearance, I may have seemed weak on the battlefield, but one of my moves could throw you off the arena. The only problem was that I fell asleep every time I used it! Which 'Smash Brother' was I?"

From Quiz I Was a 'Smash Brother'

Answer: Jigglypuff

Jigglypuff will most likely be the earliest unlockable character you'll acquire in the game since all you need to do is beat a single-player adventure on any difficulty (in both "Super Smash Bros." and "Super Smash Bros. Melee"). Jigglypuff may look weak, but this character will deal some powerful blows if she gets in a few hits. She also has the ability to sing. If Jigglypuff uses her Rest technique efficiently, even the strongest player won't have a chance since it will fling opponents right across the battlefield.

24. Which character was in the original game?

From Quiz Characters in the "Super Smash Bros." Series

Answer: Pikachu

The twelve characters from the first game are (in no particular order): Mario, Luigi, DK, Link, Samus, Pikachu, Ness, Jigglypuff, Captain Falcon, Fox, Kirby, and Yoshi (whew!). Fun Fact: The original "Smash Bros." started out not even involving Nintendo!

25. Which game makes you unlock Captain Falcon before you can play as him?

From Quiz "Melee" and "Brawl": What's the Difference?

Answer: "Brawl"

You can unlock him by beating Classic mode on Normal before a given time period. In "Melee" you only have to unlock his counterpart (only in the game): Ganondorf from "The Legend of Zelda".

26. What is the name of the "Zelda" track on the album?

From Quiz Smashing...Live!

Answer: Great Bay Shrine

"Great Bay Shrine" consisted of the background music of the stages Hyrule Temple and Termina.

27. "Using my bow and fire arrows, I was able to slash and bash my opponents off of the playing field. After a hard battle, there was nothing like giving a little cheer and drinking a bottle of fresh milk. Which 'Smash Brother' was I?"

From Quiz I Was a 'Smash Brother'

Answer: Young Link

The Young Link character was modeled after the Link that players become in the beginning of "Ocarina of Time" and throughout "Majora's Mask" (both for N64). He features many techniques similar to the regular Link's but there are some subtle differences like the fire arrow. To unlock Young Link as a character, you need to play Classic mode with ten of the original (default) characters of the game. You must include Link and Zelda in this total. Either that, or you can play 500 vs. matches.

28. How many points can you earn for a Perfect Bonus in Target Blast?

From Quiz "Super Smash Bros.": Fight to the Finish!

Answer: 30,000

You must take out all of the red targets to collect the bonus. You can attack the bomb and make sure you have all of them within two rounds.

29. What is Lucas' Final Smash?

From Quiz Characters in the "Super Smash Bros." Series

Answer: PK Starstorm

PK Starstorm is an attack that does what the name implies. Stars fall from the sky and if they hit, they are devastating! Ness can use PK Starstorm, but he and Lucas use them with subtle differences. Ness' fall at an angle, are spread out, and cause 20% damage. Lucas' are closer together, fall straight down, and cause 14% damage.

30. How do you unlock Battlefield?

From Quiz Stages in the "Super Smash Bros." Games

Answer: Beat All-Star Mode for your first time

Battlefield is is the stage where Multi-Man Melee takes place. It is also where you fight the metal characters in Adventure/Classic.
