The reason why Canopus is the choice here is once Canopus defeats Gilbert an opportunity presents itself for Gilbert to join your army. Without Canopus, Gilbert simply dies and you lose the chance to have a very powerful character in your stable.

Eurynome Rhade is a cold-hearted knight who I think is a really cool character. He hates the rebels and wanted to execute many of them. He fought the Blue Knights but was killed at Mount Ithaca.

Biske looks human if you fight him during the daytime, but at night he transforms into his wolf form and is much deadlier earning him the nickname The Beast.
