Answer: Banff Springs Hotel

The Banff Springs Hotel, now operated by the Fairmont chain of hotels, was modeled after a Scottish castle. It is located in the Banff Lake Louise National Park area. The furnishings in the hotel were all made by the Castle and Son Company of Montreal and were exact replicas of furniture found in European castles. The hotel was built in the late 1800's to entice visitors to the Banff National Park, via the railway system.

2. This historic hotel is located 20 feet from the rim of the Grand Canyon. It is known for its combination of Swiss Chalet and Norway Villa architecture.

The El Tovar was opened in 1905. It was built by the Santa Fe Railway Company as a way to attract visitors to the Grand Canyon National Park, via the railway system. It was owned and operated by the Fred Harvey Company. The architect was Charles Whittlesey who envisioned a grand lodge, rustic in appearance, fitting in to its surroundings.

The Plaza hotel opened October 1, 1907. It was designed by a famous architect, Henry Janeway Hardenberg. His design was based on a French chateau. It was decorated with elaborate chandeliers and marble.

The Wawona Hotel first opened in 1876 as a stage coach stop for visitors entering Yosemite National Park. It is built in the Victorian style. Thomas Hill, the famous landscape artist lived here and his studio is still part of the hotel. In 1932 the Wawona area was added to the Yosemite National Park. The hotel is the largest Victorian structure in the U.S. National Park system.

The Broadmoor was first opened over 75 years ago. It was owned by Spencer and Julie Penrose, who had made a fortune from gold and copper mines. They wanted to bring an elegant hotel in the grand style of European resorts to the Rockies.

The Breakers first opened in 1896 on 140 acres of oceanfront property. Henry Morrison Flagler built it in order to draw visitors to the Palm Beach area that he was developing. It was first named the Palm Beach Inn. The hotel burned down and had to be rebuilt twice. Its last rebuilding occured in the late 1920s. When it reopened in 1926, the rate was four dollars a day, and included three meals each day.

The Chateau Lake Louise is now operated by the Fairmont chain of hotels. It is located deep in the Banff National Park on the shores of Lake Louise. The hotel first was opened in 1890, as a two room cabin. Its popularity with mountaineers, soon made it apparent that a larger hotel was needed. In 1911, the Chateau Lake Louise was opened. It was modeled after chateaus in France. Many celebrities stayed there while filming in the Canadian rockies, including Alfred Hitchcock, Marilyn Monroe, Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford. The Peabody Hotel opened in 1869. It was named in honor of international financier George Peabody, who passed away shortly before the hotel was opened. The owner, Robert Brinkley, wanted to create a luxury hotel in Memphis. For 76 years the hotel has been known as the home of a group of ducks. The ducks, which are always kept as one male and four females, live in the hotel. Every day at 11:00 am the red carpet is rolled out and the ducks make their famous walk to the fountain in the lobby. At 5:00 pm the red carpet is once again rolled out and the ducks make their walk back to their rooftop home.
