Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This is a 'change a letter' quiz - work out the first word from the clue and change only one letter per question until you reach the final answer. Best of luck! A rounded two-dimensional shape.

Answer: oval

The Oval is one of the largest cricket grounds in the United Kingdom, located in the borough of Lambeth in London. It has a capacity of almost 25,000 people.
2. Spoken rather than written.

Answer: oral

As oral relates to the mouth, it is perhaps unsurprising that one of the biggest toothbrush manufacturers worldwide is called Oral-B. The company was founded in the United States in 1950 and was bought by Procter and Gamble in 2006.
3. Diminished Central Asian sea.

Answer: aral

While given the name 'sea', the Aral Sea is (or indeed was!) a lake in Central Asia. The lake began to decrease in size around 1850, largely due to a greater rate of evaporation than the rate of influx from the surrounding rivers. However, this shrinking was exacerbated by irrigation projects in the 1960s that have left the lake a shadow of its former self.
4. Irish island group.

Answer: aran

The Aran Islands are found adjacent to Galway Bay off of the coast of the Republic of Ireland. There are three islands in total, Inishmore, Inishmaan and Inisheer.
5. Edible pieces of grain husk.

Answer: bran

Bran is a common constituent of relatively healthy cereals (though they often contain a large amount of added sugar!). One of the most popular brands in the United States is Kelloggs' All-Bran, while in the United Kingdom Kelloggs sell Bran Flakes.
6. Hannibal Lecter is a fan of the fava variety.

Answer: bean

Fava beans are native to both North Africa and Southwest Asia. In 'The Silence of the Lambs', the cannibal Hannibal Lecter says that he ate a human liver "with some fava beans and a nice chianti". Lovely!
7. Swiss capital.

Answer: bern

As with much of the rest of Switzerland, Bern has a somewhat complicated language situation. The official language of the Bern canton is Swiss German, but the most spoken language is Bernese German. Switzerland has four official languages - German, French, Italian and Romansh.
8. Injury caused by the sun.

Answer: burn

Sunburn is caused when your skin is overexposed to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. It can be very painful and is best avoided by a combination of suncream and shade!
9. Farm building.

Answer: barn

The barn owl is one of the most widely distributed of all of the bird species in the world. It can be found in almost every environment, excluding polar and desert regions.
10. Tree coating.

Answer: bark

Several natural products originate from the bark of a tree, including the spice cinnamon and the cork used for wine bottles.
11. Without covering.

Answer: bare

The song 'The Bare Necessities' was written for the 1967 animated film 'The Jungle Book' by American folk singer Terry Gilkyson. It is sung by the bear Baloo - great pun!
12. Leporine animal.

Answer: hare

Similar to bovine for cows and equine for horses, leporine is the adjective used to refer to rabbits and hares. Hares typically have longer hind legs and ears than rabbits, as well as having a larger stature overall.
13. Strong dislike.

Answer: hate

A takeoff of Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D., the organisation H.A.T.E., also known as the Highest Anti-Terrorism Effort, features in the Marvel comic 'Nextwave' and is led by the fantastically-named Dirk Anger.
14. Winslet or Mara?

Answer: kate

Kate Winslet is an English actor best known for her appearance in 'Titanic'. However, her debut film role was in the 1994 Peter Jackson flick 'Heavenly Creatures' alongside Melanie Lynskey. Kate Mara is also an actor, best known for 'House of Cards' and 'The Martian'. She is the sister of Rooney Mara.
15. Airborne toy.
