1. Who was the Tsar in 1905?

Answer: Nicholas II

Nicholas II ruled from 1st November 1894 until his abdication on 15th March 1917. He was the last Tsar/monarch. He and his family were executed in July 1918.
2. What was the original joint name for the Bolsheviks and Mensheviks?

Answer: Social Democrats

These two groups were once part of the same party. The split occurred in 1903. Among other differences, Lenin and the Bolsheviks favoured a party of 'professional revolutionaries' while the Mensheviks wanted a broadly based party.
3. Stalin was the Menshevik that switched to the Bolsheviks after hearing one of Lenin's speeches.

Answer: No

Trotsky is the generally regarded as the best known person who "switched". That said, though Trotsky had sided with the Mensheviks at the time of the split on 1903, he had for many years belonged to neither the Bolsheviks nor the Mensheviks. One needs to bear in mind that the notion of Trotsky as a shameless opportunist is largely a product of Stalinist propaganda.

Unbelievable, isn't it? This was caused by the many railway breakdowns and the poverty of the country. The rail network was so inefficient is that food sometimes rotted while being moved around.

Russia is a massive country. Because of its size and the poor transport network they could not get all the materials together. This is why some soldiers at the front and did not have boots.

Answer: Multiple strokes

Once he had gained control of Russia, Lenin began to have a number of strokes which eventually made him bedridden. He was unable to work to full capacity during the 18 months or so before his death in January 1924.

Stalin was paranoid. People had to speak directly in front of him, not behind him. He even had his desk facing both windows and the door because he believed his enemies could strike at any moment.

Answer: RSFSR

RSFSR stands for Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. This name was meant to hold together the 14 states that made up the country of Russia under the Bolshevik rule. In 1922 this merged with three other republics to form the USSR.
10. How did Stalin die?

Answer: Stroke

Shortly after Stalin's death on 5 March 1953 the cause was given as a cerebral haemorrhage. Since the mid 1970s there have been claims that he was murdered, but there is no evidence to support these claims.
