Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Thanks to the Phantom dropping the stage curtain on the prima donna, Christine lands her first solo. Which song does she sing?

Answer: Think of Me

Christine makes her first appearance with the rest of the ballet dancers rehearsing as part of the opera "Hannibal". During the rehearsal, the Phantom drops the stage curtain on top of Carlotta, the prima donna. Carlotta leaves, insulted and enraged, so the managers have no choice except to let Christine sing.

She gets up and quaveringly begins the solo Carlotta had been meant to sing, "Think of Me". Her voice gains strength, and the stage transforms to show that she is now performing in front of the audience as the female lead.
2. After Christine's stunning performance in "Hannibal", Christine confides to Meg Giry that she does not know who her tutor is, but believes that he is the Angel of Music sent by whom?

Answer: Her father

Offstage, Christine says that before he died, her father promised her that he would send her the Angel of Music. When she came to the Opera Populaire with Madame Giry, she thought the Angel had come to her. In reality, the Phantom had heard that she expected an angel, so he masqueraded as the Angel of Music to give her singing lessons.

Christine's dialog then shifts into her singing "Angel of Music" with Meg.
3. Did Raoul recognize Christine before he visited her in her dressing room?

Answer: Yes

Raoul watched "Hannibal" from his opera box, and he recognized Christine when she sang "Think of Me". He sings his own lines of the song in between her singing. In the song, he recalls the time when they were young, and states that she may have forgotten him, but he remembers her.

After the opera, he visits her with flowers, and they share their childhood memories with "Little Lotte".
4. The Phantom finally reveals himself to Christine, and takes her to his underground palace. Which of these songs is *not* sung that time in the low regions of the opera house?

Answer: The Point of No Return

When Raoul leaves Christine's dressing room, the Phantom's jealous voice is heard. Singing, he agrees to show himself to Christine. By means of a mirror, she meets the Phantom, and together they journey down singing the title song, "The Phantom of the Opera".

Once they have reached his lair, the Phantom introduces Christine to his world of night with "Music of the Night". She spends the night there, and when she wakes to the Phantom playing his organ, she sings "I Remember" and takes off his mask. The Phantom breaks into "Stranger Than You Dreamt", cursing her curiosity and singing of his wretchedness and desire to be loved by her.
5. Christine is harshly introduced to the Phantom's cruel side by a horrific incident. What causes her to begin fearing and loathing the Phantom?

Answer: Buquet's death

The Phantom sends notes to the Opera Populaire's managers, Messieurs Andre and Firmin, telling them to have Christine sing the main character's role in their next opera, "Il Muto". They very indignantly do just the opposite, having Carlotta sing the lead with Christine playing a silent role.

Meanwhile, Buquet scares young girls with tales of the Phantom and his lasso. Madame Giry stops him, telling him it is unwise to speak of what he does not know. During "Il Muto", the Phantom causes Carlotta to lose her voice. The managers have the performers skip to the ballet. The ballerinas stop halfway through in horror when Buquet's dead body is dropped from the rafters suspended by a lasso.

Christine dashes away, singing, "My God who is this man,who hunts to kill
I can't escape from him, I never will!"
6. Who does Christine get engaged to?

Answer: Raoul

Raoul chases after Christine when she flees the scene of Buquet's death. She leads him to the top of the roof. She explains about the Phantom in her song "Raoul I've Been There". He comforts her, and they sing their love with "All I Ask of You". Unbeknownst to them, the Phantom is listening.

Later, as Raoul and Christine join the masquerade party, they sing about their "secret engagement", and she sports an engagement ring on a chain around her neck.
7. Back to terrorizing everyone, the Phantom forces them to put on a production of his opera "Don Juan Triumphant". Raoul devises a plan to trap him. What is Christine's role in the plan?

Answer: She is the bait

The Phantom interrupts the masquerade party to give them sheet music and orders. Among other things, he demands that Christine sing the female lead's role, and that he be given "his" Box 5. The managers are too cowed to do anything with him there. When he leaves, however, Raoul points out that they can bait him. If Christine sings, he will definitely be there. They will then have armed guards within the closed doors. The Phantom will be trapped.

Christine is afraid, not only about being used as bait, but also that they will be unable to catch him.
8. Full of fear and worry, where does Christine visit at night, only to meet the Phantom again?

Answer: Her father's grave

Late at night, Christine sneaks off to the graveyard. She wanders to her father's grave, remembering his promise of sending the Angel of Music by singing "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again". As she kneels before his tomb, the Phantom sings "Wandering Child" and entices her to go inside the tomb.

Raoul arrives hurriedly, having followed Christine. He and the Phantom duel, but Christine interposes herself. The two lovers leave together. Behind them, the Phantom declares war on both of them, including Christine.
9. "Don Juan Triumphant" opens at the opera. The Phantom gets up on the stage and sings with Christine. What does she do?

Answer: Takes off his mask

As per the Phantom's instructions, Christine sings the lead, Box 5 is left empty, and Carlotta takes a minor role. When Piangi, as Don Juan, goes offstage, he is ambushed by the Phantom. The Phantom appears onstage as Don Juan, and they duet with "Point of No Return". Fearing for her safety, Raoul and the managers keep the soldiers from firing. As the Phantom sings a reprise of "All I Ask of You", Christine takes off his mask, revealing his face to the entire opera house.

The Phantom grabs Christine and vanishes to his lair.
10. Down in his lair, the Phantom threatens to kill Raoul, who has followed them. To avoid that, what is Christine forced to do?

Answer: Agree to remain with the Phantom

The Phantom lassos Raoul and issues Christine an ultimatum: remain with him forever, or watch Raoul die. Christine pleads with him, but, unable to move him, she agrees, despite Raoul's protestations. The three of them sing, and Christine of her own volition kisses the Phantom. Finally happy, the Phantom orders them to depart.

Christine returns to give him his ring. They both cry as she leaves, singing "All I Ask of You" with Raoul.
