Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What kind of car does Alex drive in this book?

Answer: Jeep Cherokee

This is one of the few books in the series where Alex is seen driving a personal car and not riding along with Mike or Mercer in an NYPD cruiser. In the twelfth book, "Hell Gate," Alex appears to have replaced her Cherokee with a Chevrolet Suburban.
2. When Alex first arrived at the Mid-Manhattan Medical Center, a uniformed officer tried to get her to leave, saying that there was no parking outside. Who ordered the officer to let her through?

Answer: Chief of Detectives Danny McGraw

McGraw prefers to tighten control on an investigation when he's called in. Alex commented that if McGraw had it his way, she wouldn't have heard about the murder until after the Police Commissioner had been briefed.
3. True or false: Alex and her fellow bureau chiefs believe that the laminated NYPD vehicle placard is one of the best perks of their position.

Answer: True

Alex believes that they are harder to come by than winning lottery tickets. The placards are particularly useful in that they allow the bureau chiefs to park anywhere near where the NYPD cruisers are parked, which means that they do not have to hail a taxi or wait to be picked up by a detective.
4. Alex scolds Mike for inviting a psychic to join him, her, and Mercer for dinner to discuss her insights into the case. Why does Mike tell Alex to relax?

Answer: He didn't tell the psychic where they were eating

Mike believes that if the psychic was legitimate, she will show up at their dinner. This is another instance of Mike's humor shining through to a less-than-amused Alex Cooper--something he seems to be particularly good at. Don't let the offensive sense of humor fool you, though, Mike is a good detective with a good heart.
5. What is the name of the victim in the Mid-Manhattan Medical Center?

Answer: Gemma Dogen

Prior to her death, Gemma Dogen was the top neurosurgeon at the Mid-Manhattan Medical Center. However, in light of her death, she becomes Alex's latest major case. Isabella Lascar is the murder victim in the previous book, "Final Jeopardy." Aiden Burn and Susan Lewis are from the television shows "CSI: NY" and "ER" respectively.
6. What time was Gemma Dogen's alarm clock set for?

Answer: 5:30am

Alex speculates she rises early so that she can go jogging before going to work. This is one of many moments in the book where Alex admires the victim's professional drive, even if it means that she has very little personal life.
7. Mike said that Patrick Chu had a slip-up a few weeks after the events of the previous book and accidentally ended up calling Alex something not very flattering. What did he call her?

Answer: The famous prositute

Patrick assured Mike that he had brushed up on his English and would not make the same mistake again. Given Alex's personality and Patrick's ethnicity, she most likely would not have been as offended at the slip up as Mike was. He was typically the one watching Alex's back for her.
8. True or false: Alex is fond of waking up to Don Imus' radio show.

Answer: True

In Chapter 7, Alex is hesitant to turn off the radio show in the event that Don Imus says something that could be useful to the case. She also notes that, of all of the media insight given into the OJ Simpson murder trial, 'Imus in the Morning' often gave the most information pertaining to the case.
9. David Mitchell, Alex's neighbour, asks if she can watch Zac. What is Zac's relationship to David?

Answer: His dog

Aside from being David's pet, Zac is also short for "Prozac." In "Likely to Die," Alex agrees to watch Zac while David goes on vacation. While working out the details of the dogsitting, she asks David if he can help get Maureen Forster into Mid-Manhattan for observation so that she may observe the hospital from the inside.
10. Which is the name of the detective who was used as a decoy in the Mid-Manhattan Hospital?

Answer: Maureen Forester

Maureen is considered Alex's favourite decoy detective, though it appears that she sometimes has to sell the case to her husband in order that he will have fewer reservations about Maureen being put in potential danger--especially with a murderer on the loose int he hospital. Laura Wilkie is Alex's assistant, Johanna is one of Alex's subordinate attorneys, and Joan Stafford is one of Alex's friends.
