Terry was a young man that enjoyed working with mechanical devices and his parents seemed to hardly pay any attention to him. One day, his mother called his house and left a message on the answering machine and she said that she wasn't coming back. A few minutes later, Terry's father called and practically said the exact same thing. So, Terry was on his own and he was only fourteen at the time.

Terry's father told him that he couldn't put the Blakely Bearcat together. The Blakely Bearcat was a kit car that a man left for Terry's father. The pieces to the car basically just sat in the garage like pieces of junk for a long time. But, when Terry's father left and didn't come back, there was nothing to stop Terry anymore and he put the pieces together and brought the Blakely Bearcat to life.

Not only did Terry not have a license, but he didn't even have a license plate for the Blakely Bearcat that he called the Cat. But, Terry did find an old license plate and he put it on the Cat. When Terry first started to drive the Cat, he wasn't that good at driving at all but he learned quickly.

Waylon Jackson was a Vietnam veteran that Terry befriended after Terry had to pull off the side of the road because it started to rain when he was driving. Waylon was a wise man who knew many things, and when Terry met him, Waylon started to take Terry on a journey of learning down the miles of each road.

Wayne was a wise man like Waylon and they fought together in Vietnam. When Terry met Wayne for the first time, Wayne saw Terry's car and he knew that it was a Blakely Bearcat the minute he saw it. Wayne fixed Terry's car and he made the Cat run faster. Then, Wayne joined Terry and Waylon on their journey of learning.

According to Terry, Baby was a Harley that was turquoise-green and white, with a slight rake to the front fork. When Terry, Waylon and Wayne started heading down the road, Terry and Waylon were driving in the Cat and Wayne was riding his Harley.

After Waylon beat all of the other players that were playing poker with him, he won $18.000 and he split it with Terry and Wayne. They each got $6.000 and Terry was very surprised that Waylon just gave him the money in cash.

After Carly insulted them, Wayne physically abused Carly and that was when Carly's little gang of cowboys started to mess around with Terry, Waylon and Wayne. After Waylon, Terry and Wayne left the restaurant, they went back to a motel that they were staying at and when they got there, Carly and his cowboy friends were on the other side of the road waiting for them.

The reason why Waylon and Wayne took Terry to see Samuel was because they realized that Terry hardly knew anything about America and its history. Samuel was an old man who knew many things about America and several people had already gone to him so they could learn about the country.

Terry described Annie as an old woman who had wrinkles and gray hair. She let people come into her log cabin that had seen better days and she would let them play card games such as poker. That was where Waylon won $18.000 while playing a few games of poker.
