Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does Douglas Quail do for a living?

Answer: Clerk

A construction worker in the film, but a clerk in the story. Lots of Dick's characters are salesmen; that's because he himself used to work in a radio store for a while.
2. What city is the story set in?

Answer: Chicago

It's mentioned a few times throughout the story.
3. What drug does Rekal, Incorporated, use on its patients?

Answer: Narkidrine

Narkidrine is the drug, the other choices are also from novels or stories by Philip K Dick. Substance D is from 'A Scanner Darkly', KR-3 is from 'Flow my Tears, the Policeman Said' and the Mood Organ is featured in 'Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep?'. Read them, they're all great stories.
4. What colour are the receptionist's breasts sprayed?

Answer: Blue

The memory implant operation goes wrong and Rekal, Incorporated, tries to act like nothing happened and Quail never contacted them. Unfortunately there are a few facts he still remembers, the blue breasts being one of them. Well, you would remember that, wouldn't you?
5. For what organization did Quail work as a spy?

Answer: Interplan

Terrapol an Astrocop are both made up names and the Metropolitan Police Force is never mentioned. Interplan is a sort of interplanetary MI5.
6. The living plasma of which the telepathic transmitter is made was discovered on Mars.

Answer: False

It was discovered on the moon, or Luna as it is referred to in most of Dick's work.
7. What is not one of the fantasies Quail suggests could be used to overwrite the Interplan memories?

Answer: Invented the hovercar

Quail suggest overwriting the newly exposed Interplan memories again to cover up the fact that he used to work for them.
8. What was the gift the aliens gave Quail?

Answer: magic invisible destroying rod

They gave it to him in return for his kindness. And for not wiping them out, presumably.
9. Who supposedly wrote the document thanking Quail for saving the Earth?

Answer: UN Secretary General

Strictly speaking nobody was supposed to know about Quail saving the Earth by helping the aliens, so this piece of proof is somewhat dodgy.
10. Quail's name when he worked as a spy was Hauser.

Answer: False

While this is true in the film, the name Hauser is never mentioned in the story.
