When Arthur told Saito that inception was impossible, Saito asked why someone could not plant a thought into another person's mind. Arthur said, "What if I say to you, 'don't think about elephants', what are you thinking about?" Saito said, "Elephants." Arthur explained that, even though he had put the idea of elephants into Saito's mind, Saito knew that Arthur had given it to him. Arthur said that the subject would be aware of where the idea came from and would not claim it as their own idea, which was a necessary part of a successful inception. Cobb disagreed with Arthur, and said that he could do it and ultimately accepted the job. Cobb knew inception was possible because he had succeeded in planting an idea into his wife's mind.

Answer: Peter Browning

Eames wanted to gain access to Browning in order to observe how he runs things in Maurice Fischer's absence. Eames knew that Browning had a lot of power within the company, and in order for Robert to decide to break up his father's corporation, he needed to lessen Browning's influence on Robert. Browning was a close family friend of the Fischer's. Robert called him "Uncle Peter", however Browning was not Robert's uncle, he was his godfather.

Cobb told Ariadne that each level of the elevator represented moments he regretted. He also told her that no matter what he did, he couldn't change what happened. Ariadne asked Cobb, "Why do you do this to yourself?" Cobb replied by saying that in his dreams, he and his wife Mal, were both still married.

After they had returned to consciousness, Ariadne told Cobb she had to come with him on their job. Cobb had promised his father-in-law, Ariadne's mentor and college professor that he would not allow Ariadne to enter the dream world.

However, he agreed to let her because she told him that she didn't need to come with him if he told Arthur what she had seen in his dream. He didn't seem to like that idea.

Answer: a chess bishop

Cobb used a top that belonged to his wife. In a dream, the top would spin continuously and never topple. Arthur used the loaded die. He told Ariadne he couldn't let her touch his totem, because it would defeat the purpose. Only he knew the weight of his own die to keep track of reality.

After Ariadne created her totem, we see that it is a chess piece; a bishop. She then knocked it over to make sure it worked.

Answer: Los Angeles

Robert accompanied his father's body to Los Angeles from Sydney, which, according to Saito, was one of the longest flights in the world. The lengthy flight gave Cobb and his team plenty of time to knock out Robert, enter his dreams, and plant their idea.

After Cobb told the team that Ariadne would join them, they began their flight from Sydney to the United States. In exchange for completing the job, Saito would pull some strings and get the charges against Cobb dropped. The authorities believed that Cobb had killed his wife, when in fact, she had committed suicide.

They also sought his arrest for the crimes he committed in stealing from people's dreams.

Answer: Cobb's whole share from the job

After the team got trapped in the warehouse, they argued about what to do about Saito, who had been shot in the chest by Fischer's militarized subconscious. Eames said they should kill him to wake him up, but Cobb stopped him, knowing that killing him while he was sedated would not wake him up. If anyone died in the dream, they would have entered into limbo, which is just raw, infinite subconscious. Only Cobb had been in limbo before, therefore only what he had built then would be what his team experienced if they had been killed. Arthur confronted Yusef about going along with Cobb despite the risks, and Yusef said he trusted Cobb. Arthur asked him if Cobb promised Yusef half of his share, and Yusef informed Arthur that Cobb had promised him his entire share for the job. Cobb did not receive any money from the job; all Cobb wanted (and received) was to be cleared of all charges in the investigation into his wife's death. Saito got the charges dropped in exchange for Cobb completing the inception.

Answer: grenade launcher

Eames used the grenade launcher to blow up an electrical transformer, and in the process, the projections. This allowed Cobb and his team, with an unconscious Robert Fischer in the back of the van, to escape. Yusef drove the van, and the rest of the team went a level deeper. The second level down was designed by Ariadne to be a hotel.

Answer: Mr. Charles

Arthur told Ariadne that he did not approve of this strategy because it required telling the mark, in this case, Fischer, that he was dreaming. When attempting to steal thoughts from people's minds, or planting an idea, extractors like Cobb wouldn't normally tell their subject that they were dreaming. If the subject realized he was dreaming, typically his subconscious would react and attack the extractor and his team. Arthur said they had tried it before and failed miserably, and didn't like the idea of trying it on such an important job.

However, Cobb pulled off the "Mr. Charles" gambit without a problem.

Answer: Eames

Cobb told Eames to draw security away from the hospital compound. As Eames fought off the projections, Fischer, guided by Saito, made his way into the hospital. Unfortunately, Fischer was shot by a projection of Mal, and dropped down to the fourth level, limbo. Ariadne and Cobb traveled to the fourth level to retrieve Fischer, and after Ariadne gave Fischer a kick to send him back to the third level, Cobb told Ariadne he would stay in order to find Saito, who had died from the gunshot wound he received in the first level of the dream. Yusef was the dreamer in the first level of the dream, hence the reason he drove the van. Arthur was the dreamer in the hotel in the second level, and Ariadne stayed with Cobb to help protect Fischer from his projections in the hospital.

Cobb and his team intended to repair Robert's relationship with his father by planting the idea that Maurice was disappointed that his son tried to be him. Maurice had told Robert in real life that he was disappointed. Robert never found out why, but Cobb's team used that information to plant the idea in Robert's mind that Maurice was disappointed Robert tried to be him.

The job was to make Robert split up the energy empire that his father had created. They made Robert believe that his father wanted him to be his own man, and take the company where Robert thought it should go.
