Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Kirk Douglas was fine in "Champion", but his best movie has to be "Spartacus". Against whom was he pitted in the arena?

Answer: Woody Strode

Strode had him dead to rights, but couldn't go through with it. Ireland played a fellow gladiator, Gavin was Julius Caesar and McGraw was the instructor of the gladiators. Excellent movie.
2. "From Here to Eternity" was the best movie for both Montgomery Clift and Burt Lancaster. How many of the characters played by the three leads (Sinatra, Clift and Lancaster) were alive at the end of the movie?

Answer: 1

Sinatra dies, then Clift gets shot at the end of the movie. Burt carries on alone.
3. Gary Cooper was perfect in "High Noon". Who played his deputy?

Answer: Lloyd Bridges

Great western.
4. Spencer Tracy may be the best of the classic actors - and he was never better than in "Inherit the Wind". Who played the town minister?

Answer: Claude Akins

Morgan was the judge, March was the lawyer (opposite Tracy) and Kelly was the reporter. Nice, taut drama.
5. "Captain Blood" was fine, but Errol Flynn's best role was in "The Adventures of Robin Hood". Who played the evil Prince John?

Answer: Claude Rains

Hale and Pallette were members of Flynn's band of "merry men". Rathbone was one of the prince's villains. Fun movie.
6. Richard Burton was at his best in "Becket". Who played King Henry?

Answer: Peter O'Toole

Was it O'Toole's best, too - or was that "Lawrence of Arabia"?
7. Robert Mitchum's best movie was the film noir classic, "Out of the Past". What happens to Mitchum at the end?

Answer: He dies

I don't know if I like the ending, but it's a good movie.
8. Steve McQueen's best movie was "Bullitt". Who played the sleazy bureaucrat?

Answer: Robert Vaughn

I don't consider "Great Escape" to be a McQueen movie - it's more of an ensemble cast.
9. Jack Lemmon's first big dramatic movie, "Days of Wine and Roses", was a masterpiece. Who plays the man from AA?

Answer: Jack Klugman

Early Klugman. Bickford played Jack's father-in-law. Fine drama.
10. James Cagney's favorite film was "Yankee Doodle Dandy", but his best movie may have been "White Heat". Who co-starred with him?

Answer: Virginia Mayo

At his best as a tough guy.
