Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "You best keep runnin', Clyde Barrow. And you know it." Who offers these words of warning to Clyde at a family gathering?

Answer: Mrs. Parker

This moment takes place at the family gathering scene, which was filmed in Red Oak, Texas. Mabel Cavit was one of the local residents watching the filming. The local school teacher was noticed by the filmmakers and cast on the spot to play the role of Bonnie's mother.

It's only one scene with a few lines, but it's a brutally honest performance, very convincing for a woman who had never acted before. When Clyde tries to sweet-talk her by saying that Bonnie wanted to live no more than three miles from her precious mother, she responds, "I don't believe I would. I surely don't. You try to live three miles from me and you won't live long, honey. You best keep runnin', Clyde Barrow. And you know it."
2. According to what he tells Blanche Barrow, who is C.W. Moss' favorite moving picture star?

Answer: Myrna Loy

C.W. (Michael J. Pollard) provides much of the film's comedy. This is particularly evident in the scene when Buck (Gene Hackman) and Blanche Barrow (Estelle Parsons) arrive at the trailer court to hook up with Bonnie and Clyde. C.W. comes out of his room in his skivvies and opens the car door to greet Blanche, who is mortified by his appearance. C.W. doesn't seem to notice.

He sees her new Screenland magazine and asks if there are any pictures of Myrna Loy in it. "She's my favorite picture star."
3. Who says the following and to whom? "Your advertising's just dandy... folks would never guess you don't have a thing to sell."

Answer: Bonnie to Clyde

When they first meet, Bonnie (Faye Dunaway) challenges Clyde (Warren Beatty) to use the gun he displays so proudly. Clyde walks across the street into a grocery store and emerges with a fistful of cash. They jump into a nearby car, Clyde hotwires it, and away they go.

It's at this point that Bonnie throws herself at her new acquaintance, hugging and kissing him as they drive away. Clyde pulls the car over and pushes her away, telling her, "I ain't much of a lover boy." She responds with this great line, suggesting that if he wasn't interested in her sexually, why was he flirting with her so intensely?
4. Finish the final lines of Bonnie's poem. "Some day, they'll go down together / They'll bury them side by side..."

Answer: To a few, it'll be grief / To the law, a relief / But it's death for Bonnie and Clyde.

The poem that Bonnie reads to Clyde in the film, and which is ultimately printed in newspapers nationwide, is actually a poem written by the real Bonnie Parker. Apparently, she wrote the poem while they were in the midst of their crime spree and gave a copy to her mother just months before she and Clyde were killed. It starts like this:

You've read the story of Jesse James
Of how he lived and died;
If you're still in need
Of something to read,
Here's the story of Bonnie and Clyde.

Now Bonnie and Clyde are the Barrow gang,
I'm sure you all have read
How they rob and steal
And those who squeal
Are usually found dying or dead.

After the poem is published in the paper, Clyde expresses his gratitude. "You know what you done there? You told my story, you told my whole story right there, right there. One time, I told you I was gonna make you somebody. That's what you done for me. You made me somebody they're gonna remember."
5. What's the punchline of the joke that Buck tells Clyde?

Answer: "Son, whatever you do, don't sell that cow."

Buck tells the joke a second time to Eugene (Gene Wilder) and Velma (Evans Evans) when the Barrow gang kidnaps the undertaker and his girlfriend for a lark. Eugene and Velma laugh raucously but the gang, having heard it several times over, are non-plussed.
6. When we first meet C.W., he is fixing Bonnie and Clyde's car. What, according to C.W., was wrong with it?

Answer: "Dirt in the fuel line."

"Dirt in the fuel line. Just blooowed it away." It's our first meeting with C.W. and it sets up the comical but ultimately loyal relationship that he has with Bonnie and Clyde.

C.W. is actually an amalgam of several different young men who were involved with the Barrow gang over the years. W.D. Jones, Ralph Fults, and Raymond Hamilton all came and went with Bonnie and Clyde. Henry Methvin was the last sidekick who traveled with the gang and it was his father who made the deal with Frank Hamer that ultimately got the outlaws killed.
7. In the diner scene near the beginning of the film, Clyde guesses correctly that Bonnie thought about marrying one of the men who came into the restaurant where she waited tables. She confirms Clyde's guess when she tells him where the almost-a-fiancée worked. Where did he work?

Answer: A cement plant

Clyde's seduction of Bonnie seems complete in this diner scene in which he mesmerizes her with an accurate account of what her life in West Dallas was like.

"...the truck drivers come in to eat greasy burgers and they kid you and you kid them back, but they're stupid and dumb, boys with big tattoos all over 'em, and you don't like it... And they ask you for dates and sometimes you go... but you mostly don't, and all they ever try is to get into your pants whether you want to or not... and you go home and sit in your room and think, when and how will I ever get away from this?... And now you know."

Bonnie never looks back.
8. Another question on the poetry of Bonnie Parker. In their Joplin apartment, Bonnie reads another of her poems to the gang. At one point she reads... "Now, Sal was a girl of rare beauty / Though her features..." What comes next?

Answer: "Were coarse and tough"

In this sequence, Bonnie is trying to read her poem for the gang but they are less than attentive. When she reads "Though her features were coarse and tough," Buck interrupts with a crude commentary. But it doesn't really matter in the long run because moments later, the driveway is filled with cruisers and the gang finds itself in the midst of a shootout with police.
9. "Well, I coulda got killed same as everybody. And I'm wanted by the law same as everybody... I'm a nervous wreck and that's the truth. I have to take sass from Miss Bonnie Parker all the time." When Blanche Barrow speaks the above lines, what is she petitioning for?

Answer: She wants her share of the cash from their latest bank job.

The bank heist scene in the middle of the film is an exciting sequence. The gang robs the bank most theatrically, with Buck executing a dramatic leap over the counter at the bank to retrieve the cash. Flatt and Scruggs' "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" plays raucously on the soundtrack as the gang makes their escape.

But when they finally settle down to count out the money, reality sets in. Looking at the meager amount of cash they netted in the robbery, Clyde says, "It ain't much, is it? Well, times is hard." He doles out the cash to everyone but Blanche, who has not participated in the robbery. She petulantly makes her case that she deserves her share. Clyde relents, much to Bonnie's disgust.
10. "I believe I lost my shoes, Clyde. I think the dog got 'em." At what moment in the film does Buck make this statement?

Answer: The night before he dies.

Towards the end of the film, the Barrow Gang is attacked at night as they try to get some sleep at a trailer court in Platte City, MO. There is a shoot-out and Buck is shot in the head. They make it out but Buck, mortally wounded, starts ranting nonsensically. "I believe I lost my shoes, Clyde. I think the dog got 'em."

The next morning, the gang is attacked again; Bonnie, Clyde, and C.W. escape, but Buck is dying. Blanche tries to reach for him but the police pull her away as Buck breathes his last, his hand only inches away from his pistol.
