Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "I'd like to dedicate this to my grandpa, who showed me these moves."

Answer: Little Miss Sunshine

"Little Miss Sunshine" is an incredibly heartwarming 2006 movie starring Toni Collette, Alan Arkin, Greg Kinnear, Steve Carrell and Abigail Breslin. It's about a very dysfunctional family who take a roadtrip to get their daughter to a beauty pageant. Each of the family members are dealing with hardship and there are lots of arguments and obstacles but in the end they learn to lean on each other.

In this hilarious scene at the end of the movie, naive Olive Hoover dedicates a dance to her grandpa and then performs a dance reminiscent of a stripper's routine to a Rick James song.

This is of course at a child's beauty pageant, to the shock of the audience and pageant organizers. She'd been practicing her routine in private with her grandpa, who is clearly a bad influence.
2. "You makin fun of me Riz?"

Answer: Grease

The 1978 musical "Grease" stars John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John as high school teenagers who meet during summer break. Clean-cut Sandy Olsson is supposed to go back to Australia but ends up staying in the US and attending the same high school as bad boy Danny Zuko. Sandy has trouble fitting in and at one point is invited to a sleepover with bad girls the Pink Ladies where there is smoking and drinking. Sandy has done neither of these things before and is not feeling well. Pink Lady ringleader Rizzo sings the song "Look at me, I'm Sandra Dee", making fun of goody two-shoes Sandy and Sandy catches her in the act, asking if she's making fun of her. Rizzo replies "some people are so touchy" and awkwardly removes the blond wig she's been wearing while mocking Sandy.
3. "Do you even know your daughter? There's no way she likes that song. Oh...is she in a coma?"

Answer: High Fidelity

"High Fidelity" is the name of a 2000 movie based on a novel by the same name by Nick Hornby. John Cusack, Jack Black and Lisa Bonet star in the movie. It's the story of a record store owner named Rob Gordon who has just been dumped by his girlfriend and goes on a bit of exploration into past relationships to find out where he went wrong. Jack Black plays Barry, one of his record store employees and a big music snob.

In one hilarious scene, an older man comes into the store looking for the Stevie Wonder song "I Just Called to Say I Love You" and Barry gives him a hard time before telling him to leave the store and calling the song "sentimental tacky crap."
4. "Where is my beige iridescent lipstick?"

Answer: Dirty Dancing

In "Dirty Dancing" Frances (Baby) goes to a holiday camp with her parents and sister Lisa. Baby is a young woman who wants to save the world and while on summer holiday meets Johnny the cool, sexy dancer who works at the camp. They begin a relationship which they both try to keep secret from her family and Johnny's boss. Baby's older sister Lisa is a really funny character.

She's mean to her little sister and is a bit of a diva. In one scene while Baby is getting ready to meet Johnny on a rainy afternoon, Lisa can be heard in the background looking for her "beige iridescent lipstick." The quote sticks out for me because it's pretty representative of how shallow of a person she is, worrying primarily about insignificant things.
5. "His name is Blane? Oh! That's a major appliance, that's not a name!"

Answer: Pretty in Pink

Ducky and Andie are from the poor side of town, they are best friends and Ducky is in love with Andie. Andie has a crush on one of the rich kids, whose name is Blane. In "Pretty in Pink" the rich kids are awful people, mean and spoiled and spiteful. Ducky can't believe that Andie is going out on a date with Blane because he thinks that Andie is going to get hurt.

When that logic doesn't work with Andie, he insults Blane's name. Jon Cryer is awesome as Ducky, Andrew McCarthy is pretty cool as a rich kid with a heart and Molly Ringwald is great as the girl in between. James Spader is also great as a really mean-spirited character named Steff.
6. "A woman's heart is a deep ocean of secrets."

Answer: Titanic

Rose Dawson Calvert, played by Gloria Stuart, tells her tale of travelling on the Titanic and meeting Jack Dawson, a man who wins his way on the boat in a card game. The epic and moving fictionalized version of the Titanic's journey centers around Jack and Rose, the relationship they develop, and how Jack helps Rose become an independent woman.

At the end of the movie, Rose explains that she's never spoken of Jack in all her years until this moment and then says this quote. She goes on to explain how Jack saved her - from jumping off the ship, from a life with a terrible husband and when the ship was sinking.
7. "One time she punched me in the face... it was awesome."

Answer: Mean Girls

In "Mean Girls" Lindsay Lohan plays Cady Heron, a girl who has been home-schooled and is completely unprepared after she is enrolled in high school. She quickly learns all about the confusing social rules and the various groups of students at the school. One such group are the mean girls, led by Regina George.

As Cady is warned about the kind of evil person Regina is, a series of different students are seen describing her. This includes descriptions of Regina as looking "flawless" and "fierce" and a rumour that she's done car commercials in Japan.

This is where we hear the iconic line about Regina punching a girl in the face and the girl thinking it's awesome because of the top social standing Regina has.
8. "I've never hit a kid before. I mean, that's like asking who Gandhi is."

Answer: Zombieland

"Zombieland" is a hilarious 2009 movie starring Jesse Eisenberg as Columbus, a nerdy, nervous young man who meets up with Tallahassee, played by Woody Harrelson. Tallahassee hates zombies, loves Twinkies and is a big fan of Bill Murray. Columbus and Tallahassee meet up with sisters Wichita and Little Rock and decide to stick together while they try to stay alive in the zombie apocalypse.

They go to Bill Murray's house and while Tallahassee is thrilled to be at the house of his idol, young Little Rock asks who Bill Murray is.

This is when Tallahassee threatens to hit a kid. When he says it's like not knowing who Gandhi is, Little Rock responds with, "Who's Gandhi?"
9. "Queen of spades... Two spades, jack of diamonds, jack of clubs."

Answer: Evil Dead

"Evil Dead" is one of the first horror movies I ever watched and I was terrified. Ash, played by Bruce Campbell, and a group of friends rent a cabin in the woods and stumble upon a book and a tape that open up the world to demons. The friends are terrorized while they're at the cabin as they become possessed, one by one.

In this scene, a couple of the guests are playing a game with cards where they try to guess what card the other person is holding up. Cheryl, who's been possessed after a nightmare ordeal in the woods, guesses all the cards as she turns into a demon in front of her friends.

She then picks up a pencil and stabs one of her friends in the ankle. One by one the friends become possessed by the evil dead they've unleashed. This movie is a cult classic, spawning sequels, a TV series and a movie remake.
10. "How can you read this? There's no pictures!"

Answer: Beauty and the Beast

In "Beauty and the Beast" a beautiful young woman named Belle, who is from a small town, yearns for adventure and loves to read. A boorish but handsome man named Gaston has his eyes set on Belle but he is unkind and unintelligent and she is not interested in him at all.

At one point in this Disney animated movie, Gaston pulls a book out of Belle's hands and asks her how she can read a book with no pictures. In the movie, Belle ends up taking her father's place as a prisoner to a hideous beast and Belle and the beast end up falling in love. What she doesn't know is that the beast is actually a selfish prince who was cursed to live as a monster until he can learn to love and be loved.
